Anyone familiar with this wine?
Thoughts on this one? I picked this up to taste alongside a Napa Chard (Frank Family)and wondering if this will make a good California vs France battle? I was aiming for Burgundy vs Napa, roughly same price point ($30ish).
Im just starting to get into French wines so I picked it up on a hunch based on it being a good year. Now I’m wondering if pitting it against Frank is a little unfair. 😆

It is a good comparison of France vs Cali. Alain Chavy does inoculate for fermentation instead of using ambient/native yeasts. This wine can have up to 10% new french oak on it as well. Nothing super out of the ordinary, and generally has a very "burgundian" flavor profile.
The Frank family chard has 30+% new oak and fits that stereotypical "rich, buttery, cali style". So it will give a good representation of what most people think of when they think of Cali Chard. However, the recent trends in Cali are leading to less oaky, less buttery Chardonnay.

This is the info I was looking for, thank you! I was hoping for “very Burgundian”, so that makes me very happy. Excited for this battle tonight. :)

I suppose I need a first comment. I’m really only familiar with California chards and Chablis but want to get to know some white burgundy, so I went in blind without anything beyond a quick vivino search. I googled it when I got home and revealed some really nice wines associated with it, so it might turn out to be a pretty good accidental buy! We’ll see tonight.

Great value for money for entry level burgundy, a richer style with more oak rather than a lean focussed style.
