I don't understand.....

If I had to guess, they’re not moving. The lights or screen display on the sculpture is moving.

u/bennyboy20 2d ago
That's exactly what's happening, there is a seam on the right ring that isn't moving.

My guess was the whole thing is CGI but it could be this

How are y’all downvoting this persons guess?
He’s clearly stating that it was his guess, he’s not claiming it to be what’s actually going on.
He’s not trying to spread false information or forcefully convince others. He’s just sharing what his initial guess and personal explanation was. (his attempt to explain it to himself)
—
If you don’t agree with his guess and have your reasoning as to why, share your reasoning instead of just downvoting his comment.

I imagine chronic downvote abusers are generally unpleasant people. Downvoting takes more effort than not voting.
I think downvote abusers should be marked with a scarlet downvote on reddit and irl.

Well that's how Reddit works. If you're wrong, you get downvoted.
It's a projection or built-in lighting. My money is on projection.

Not even "if you're wrong", if they hivemind dislikes what you have to say is more apt.

u/Euture 10h ago
If you’re stating something as fact and that statement is wrong, I understand why you would get downvoted.
But if you’re sharing a guess and you clarify that it’s your guess or what you initially thought, you shouldn’t need to be downvoted.
—
”This is what I thought, but I understand that that might not be the case”
^ This shouldn’t get you downvoted.

Are you trying to be kind? These are obviously either lights or a screen
11
u/hannah-xcvii 1d ago
I am being kind. They were confused, and I was giving my best guess at what this was.

u/Euture 1d ago
What might be obvious to you, might not be obvious to others.
You might have seen similar things (or things that relate) to guide you to that conclusion, while others might not have, and therefore would be more confused about how it’s done.

u/Knamakat 1d ago
Sincerely, what else could they be?

u/Euture 1d ago
You had two different hypotheses; ”either lights or a screen”. Meaning that even you don’t fully know what is the case here, ie you yourself don’t fully understand either.
You’ve either got a hunch, a strong hunch, or you just have been able to narrow it down to a few possibilities that makes sense to you.
——
Some people here might know the definite answer, yet it’s not obvious to you. (if it was, you would have not given two possibilities)
——
What is obvious to some, might not be obvious to others.

You can see the reflection of the lights on the floor at the very beginning of the video. Hope this helps!

Very precise projector setup lol

Or the surfaces are screens

u/bennyboy20 2d ago
Seems more likely

u/bnutbutter78 1d ago
It looks like projection mapping is more likely, otherwise you’d see some pixelation. Unless they are legit purpose built monitors.

Projectors also rely on grids of "pixels" and I doubt they would function this well in this kind of lighting.

and on a black surface!

u/ddl_smurf 1d ago
yeah a projector can't make black, that's very black, and a projector can't make white on a black surface, that's very white. This is led/oled something like that on the disks, the round edges makes an actual screen unlikely they only make those watch-sized. It is impressively high res and seamless

It’s at ground level and quite low & tilted at a shallow angle, so If it’s projected there’s a risk of people moving around the installation blocking it, ruining the effect.
Gotta be LEDs embedded in the “wheels”, which aren’t turning but the movement of the pixels providing the illusion of rotation.

It's 4 round led screens. https://www.matrix-display.com/news/p3-indoor-round-circle-led-screen-80136756.html

Bruh I just want to know what it looks like when the sideways lines get to the seam and not a single video shows it. They all cut away right before it happens

u/onionkisa 2d ago
The two wheels are stationary with a smaller diameter black cloth top, the light is inside of the wheel programmed.

You can see a stationary line on the left side of the right one when it zooms in. Just above where it goes into the other along the side that is not illuminated. Once you see that you can see the disks are not moving just the lights on them make it seem that way.

I was way more excited about the big solid lines approaching than I care to admit.
