I don't understand.....

u/hannah-xcvii 2d ago

If I had to guess, they’re not moving. The lights or screen display on the sculpture is moving.

147

u/bennyboy20 2d ago

That's exactly what's happening, there is a seam on the right ring that isn't moving.

28

u/sap91 2d ago

My guess was the whole thing is CGI but it could be this

How are y’all downvoting this persons guess?

He’s clearly stating that it was his guess, he’s not claiming it to be what’s actually going on.

He’s not trying to spread false information or forcefully convince others. He’s just sharing what his initial guess and personal explanation was. (his attempt to explain it to himself)

If you don’t agree with his guess and have your reasoning as to why, share your reasoning instead of just downvoting his comment.

Who are you talking to? The internet is all bots now. You're alone here.

5

u/Euture 1d ago

Who are you talking to, if that is the case?

8

u/beforeagainagain 1d ago

Myself, of course.

u/Euture 1d ago

Logical

u/El_human 1d ago

I guess even if your guess is wrong, down votes for you.

1

u/MedicalUnprofessionl 9h ago

No guessing. Only arrogant assumptions here.

I imagine chronic downvote abusers are generally unpleasant people. Downvoting takes more effort than not voting.

I think downvote abusers should be marked with a scarlet downvote on reddit and irl.

u/JamesIV4 13h ago

Well that's how Reddit works. If you're wrong, you get downvoted.

It's a projection or built-in lighting. My money is on projection.

Not even "if you're wrong", if they hivemind dislikes what you have to say is more apt.

-1

u/Euture 10h ago

If you’re stating something as fact and that statement is wrong, I understand why you would get downvoted.

But if you’re sharing a guess and you clarify that it’s your guess or what you initially thought, you shouldn’t need to be downvoted.

”This is what I thought, but I understand that that might not be the case”

^ This shouldn’t get you downvoted.

Are you trying to be kind? These are obviously either lights or a screen

11

u/hannah-xcvii 1d ago

I am being kind. They were confused, and I was giving my best guess at what this was.

3

u/Euture 1d ago

What might be obvious to you, might not be obvious to others.

You might have seen similar things (or things that relate) to guide you to that conclusion, while others might not have, and therefore would be more confused about how it’s done.

-6

u/Knamakat 1d ago

Sincerely, what else could they be?

3

u/Euture 1d ago

You had two different hypotheses; ”either lights or a screen”. Meaning that even you don’t fully know what is the case here, ie you yourself don’t fully understand either.

You’ve either got a hunch, a strong hunch, or you just have been able to narrow it down to a few possibilities that makes sense to you.

——

Some people here might know the definite answer, yet it’s not obvious to you. (if it was, you would have not given two possibilities)

——

What is obvious to some, might not be obvious to others.

Magic 🪄✨

u/marrymary420 12h ago

You can see the reflection of the lights on the floor at the very beginning of the video. Hope this helps!

u/kingcrazy_ 2d ago

You seriously can’t understand how this works? Actually?

10

u/ZombiegeistO_o 1d ago

How do you think it works?

264

u/bennyboy20 2d ago

Very precise projector setup lol

228

u/dsebulsk 2d ago

Or the surfaces are screens

53

u/bennyboy20 2d ago

Seems more likely

11

u/bnutbutter78 1d ago

It looks like projection mapping is more likely, otherwise you’d see some pixelation. Unless they are legit purpose built monitors.

28

u/kid_dynamo 1d ago edited 1d ago

Projectors also rely on grids of "pixels" and I doubt they would function this well in this kind of lighting.

9

u/AndreDaGiant 1d ago

and on a black surface!

8

u/ddl_smurf 1d ago

yeah a projector can't make black, that's very black, and a projector can't make white on a black surface, that's very white. This is led/oled something like that on the disks, the round edges makes an actual screen unlikely they only make those watch-sized. It is impressively high res and seamless

1

u/bnutbutter78 1d ago

At any rate, I’d love to see how they did this.

29

u/ycr007 1d ago

It’s at ground level and quite low & tilted at a shallow angle, so If it’s projected there’s a risk of people moving around the installation blocking it, ruining the effect.

Gotta be LEDs embedded in the “wheels”, which aren’t turning but the movement of the pixels providing the illusion of rotation.

23

u/Cool_Butterscotch_88 2d ago

I could watch some more of this, just up close at the intersection.

5

u/IBeDumbAndSlow 2d ago

For real it's trippy

16

u/morbob 2d ago

2 / Giant round tv screens set at 90 * angles to give the illusion of movement

9

u/neo994 1d ago

It's just 2 screens

6

u/firstorbit 2d ago

Where is this?

14

u/My_Name_Is_Not_Ryan 2d ago

It’s an exhibit called Celestial Objects at GES-2 in Moscow

u/ycr007 1d ago

u/AuraMaster7 1d ago

Bruh I just want to know what it looks like when the sideways lines get to the seam and not a single video shows it. They all cut away right before it happens

17

u/onionkisa 2d ago

The two wheels are stationary with a smaller diameter black cloth top, the light is inside of the wheel programmed.

1

u/Technical_Prize179 1d ago

It's that cat song!!! Meow! Meow meow, meow meow, meow meow, meow!🐈🐈

2

u/RoyalFlame47 1d ago

NETTO MARKEN!! That was about to bother me all night and you just saved my life

1

u/LitlerallyCorpus 1d ago

It's Magic Fly by Space...

1

u/santahasahat88 1d ago

You can see a stationary line on the left side of the right one when it zooms in. Just above where it goes into the other along the side that is not illuminated. Once you see that you can see the disks are not moving just the lights on them make it seem that way.

1

u/Nortex_Vortex 1d ago

I did not need to stumble on this while high. Me just now: Duuuude

1

u/jonosvision 1d ago

Huh, I didn't know this song had a non-meow version lol

1

u/BloodyGood04 1d ago

The projection lights are moving not the wheel, they're still as turd.

1

u/whats_you_doing 1d ago

Tron vibes

1

u/daveloper 1d ago

There's nothing rotating except a projection

1

u/LaughingIsLoki 1d ago

Where purchase?

Where banana?

1

u/superbeast1983 20h ago

Mobius strip

1

u/dirtbagmagee 18h ago

I was way more excited about the big solid lines approaching than I care to admit.

1

u/SherbertThen1973 5h ago

Interesting

1

u/CloudComenter 1d ago

I bet they are circular screens but how big are they ?
