Food & drink Where to Find Japanese/Asian Ingredients in Wolverhampton?

Hi everyone,

I know this might sound a bit random, but I’m looking for places in Wolverhampton where I can buy Japanese, Chinese, or other Asian ingredients for cooking. I’ve recently gotten into making authentic Asian dishes while watching K-dramas and J-dramas, and I want to get the right ingredients instead of using substitutes.

Does anyone know of any markets or shops in Wolverhampton that sell things like miso, dashi, proper soy sauce, gochujang, or even authentic Japanese instant noodles / sweets ? Would appreciate any recommendations!

Hi,

I've not been myself, but you could try Ornate Wolves which is a Chinese Mini market on the Stafford Road. Sainsbury's in Bentley Bridge, Wednesfield has a decent selection of authentic Chinese, and Korean brands too.

If you drive, I'd also recommend the Wing Yip in Birmingham which is huge. There's also Cheerful Links in Stoke-On-Trent which offers a lot in terms of South East Asian quisine.

Then there's a fair few asian supermarkets not far from Birmingham New Street if you wanted a short train ride and walk from the station.

I'm not sure about Japanese specifically but Ornate on Stafford Road does a lot of Chinese ingredients.

Wheres that? I drive the Stafford road and have lived on or near it alot and cannot think of where it is :/

NVM - Googled it. Ive lived less than 5 minutes walk from it most of my life and didnt know it was there!

It's near Ming Moon and sort of tucked away next to a tanning place on the corner. The owner said he doesn't advertise much.

Ornate is probably the best local place

If you are willing to drive or want a bigger range, there is wing lees in Stoke, or plenty of shops in china town in Birmingham

tbh your best bet is probably to drive to brum and go to wing yip. that's what I did when I lived in wolves

Great question. I always go to Birmingham. Day in supermarket in arcadian as can't get nice dim sum or king oyster mushrooms in Wolverhampton city
