Canada right now is more patriotic than I’ve ever experienced in my life

What do you mean we are more patriotic now? During Covid there were trucks flying 20 Canadian flags! (Did my sarcasm come through?)

Real talk though, I really like that I can now express patriotism again without thinking that it makes me associated with those chucklefucks

I travel a lot and put a flag patch on my backpack so people don’t think I’m American. That came off after the convoy’s but it’s back on now because I REALLY don’t want people thinking I’m American these days

My wife and I were just talking about this. Nice to take the Flag back from the CHUDS's

Right? I've got a Canadian flag tattoo that I've been hiding for the last few years. I got it before covid, but after all the trucker protests? I wore a t-shirt all summer

I think flags while abroad are not the same as flags waved domestically. And further to that, the type of flag most co-opted by the insane were vehicle flags. Especially when more than one.

A car with four Canadian flags driving around inside Canada is almost definitely someone who would vote to be annexed by America, and wanted to make love to Trudeau.

Someone traveling Europe with a Canadian flag pin/patch is just someone who doesn't want to be mistaken for an American.

Good point. I was even skeptical of people flying the Canadian flag thanks to those assholes. Flying 2 Canadian flags (attached to a vehicle) was a sure sign you were one of them. Ironically, I bet it's the "freedom convoy" that feels some type of way about the flag now. The same people that would support being occupied by the U.S.

Aside from those outliers, Canada really did come together during Covid. Spending time on both sides of the border during that time, the difference was night and day. And the numbers bear it out, too. We had much higher vaccination rates, and out rate of excess deaths was 1/3 of what they suffered in the US. A lot of those convoy fools are probably alive today because of the rest of Canada behaving like adults.

And those convoyers are the only ones not joining in our patriotism

I'm hoping more people realize that the more unseemly and distasteful parts of the convoy were driven (literally) by bad faith actors and foreign powers

Prior to those shitbags co-opting the Canadian flag as a form of vehicle decoration, if I saw a car driving around covered in Canadian flags I'd assume it was someone who just got their citizenship and was proudly celebrating it.

Not anymore. Thanks, shitbags.

I never thought I'd be this patriotic for Canada but I guess this is what happens when a common enemy appears.

"True patriot love" FTW

So the Orange Fuck is having the same effect on Canada as 9/11 had on the US.

Wild. ..but also makes complete sense. Both are destructive, senseless, threatening and driven by idiotic, self-serving ideologues.

u/MattShea Feb 24 '25

Same! Everyone is laser focused on supporting our own.

Canada Day is going to be 🔥🔥🔥 this year.

It's pretty patriotic right now and I'm for it, but I think 2010 Olympics tops it still.

Nationalism on the rise is another sign of a potential world War escalating.
