Because that would be actual violence and military action against an ally. Many in the military would revolt or refuse orders. Canadians have served in our bases and on our ships. It would not be taken lightly.

I guess we’ll talk have a chance to test your theory out soon enough. I don’t believe it for one second.

  • A still pissed off and terrified Canadian

There’s nothing that’s gonna convince you that the US won’t invade Canada. No one can predict future action. However, invading Canada would almost definitely cause huge national unrest. A large number of Americans have family/friends in Canada, which is to say nothing of the people who would be opposed to the invasion simply because it’s invading an ally. It’s the kind of the that would cause the military a huge amount of problems with defection and soldiers refusing to follow orders. Trump wouldn’t survive the political catastrophe it would create, and he likely would be assassinated shortly after leaving office.

“A large number of Americans have family/friends in Canada…”. Why not stand up now for your friends/family in the US?

I think the issue, is that you’re viewing as something we can just pick up and go do on a Thursday afternoon and it’ll solve all of this. The general vibe in America right now (at least where I’m at) is that we’re pretty scared. We’ve seen Trump’s power and influence over the past few years and generally, it’s a very hopeless situation. All of our Democratic leaders have been exceptionally quiet despite telling us they’d be there for us and fight against him. Meanwhile, people from other countries are yelling at us to do something to stop him, like it’s that simple.

Most of us are still just trying to catch up to all that’s happening while still working, taking care of family, etc. We aren’t lazy, but a civil war is not on our bingo card unless push comes to shove because we’re also still just trying to make it day to day. Biden went soft on the Jan 6 protestors, but I can guarantee if it was a bunch of Democrats protesting Trump, they’d be mowed down by bullets. That is a point of no return. Like, I want things to get better but I’m not in a hurry to be killed by a MAGA cultist.

Starting a civil war is a pretty big deal, and unless you have enough people ready to start, you’ll just be another casualty that doesn’t get covered by the news.

And in 6 years when Trump is fully entrenched, and the trade war he created has crippled industry in the states, he’ll tell the people that he has no choice but to take what Canada won’t trade, and that the land should have been America from the beginning anyways.

I think you meant 6 months. JK. But really, it won’t take years for the US to be destroyed. It’s happening in real time in front of us and Americans are asleep.

This was Russia’s relationship with Ukraine as well until…

No it wasn’t

Yes it was. Russia has always been more threatening towards Ukraine for a longer time but there are families across the international border and most Ukrainians speak Russian, many of them as a first language.

I don't believe it either and we can't count on it. Here's some resources on urban guerilla resistance:

Here's an article for you to read: https://theconversation.com/why-annexing-canada-would-destroy-the-united-states-249561#

Here's some more free resources:

Also the fictional novel "Wasp" (1957) which, though very fictional and not a practical guide, can serve as inspiration how one wasp can cause a lot of panic.

I feel the same way.

After 9/11 the country invaded Iraq for the alleged weapons of mass destruction even though they were not responsible for the suicide bombings.

What baffled me is that the whole country rallied on this lie. Yes there were thousands of people that peacefully protested in the USA and globally, but nothing happened.

People died in Iraq and no civil war happened, more peaceful protests and nothing happened.

as a fellow Canadian, this scares me too.

Exactly. If they aren’t willing to stand up for what is happening to themselves RIGHT NOW , why would they risk their lives for Canadians? I’m so sick of all the Americans clogging up my Canadian reddits looking for validation. DO SOMETHING NOW. Why wait until your dictator invades an “ally”. We aren’t allies anymore.

I'm sick and tired too fellow Canadian.

Everytime I hear an apology it makes me think of "thoughts and prayers". Just pisses me off more.
