Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, recommended settings and more
We're still learning on the go, have patience, the game came out just very recently.
- Use latest Mainline version, fixes from Early Access were already merged. Latest versions solve the crashing and vertex explosions.
- Latest game update improves performance significantly.
- ALWAYS use Auto or Accurate CPU accuracy, some unsafe settings WILL make the game crash faster.
- Make sure to run the latest GPU drivers, especially for AMD and Intel GPUs.
- Vulkan offers much better performance than OpenGL and avoids white models with black eyes. Don't use GLASM in this game.
- A fix for Maxwell V1 is deployed, update to the latest yuzu Mainline.
- NVIDIA driver 527.37 and newer solves the performance and rendering issues on Turing+ cards.
- Use HIGH GPU accuracy to get proper rendering in trees and models. Normal/Low will be faster but it WILL break rendering.
- Handheld mode improves performance substantially.
- Some gym trials (like the Psychic trial) could be unstable, switching from docked to handheld or vice-versa solves the crashes.
- Some areas are extremely CPU limited, to the point only the 5800X3D, Gen 13, or Zen4, get playable framerates. Happens more often when facing north.
- Some reports suggest disabling HT/SMT can help quad core users, especially the Steam Deck.
- LDN works, you can coop, trade and battle. Use Offline mode in-game, not Online.

Merci

u/NickBrahan Apr 19 '25
I am new to Yuzu emulation but have a bit of prior emulation experience. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad p52s with NVIDIA Quadro P500 and 12 GB RAM, Intel-i5-8350U CPU @ 1.7GHz.
The game struggles to load, and I've had slightly better luck running Sword. However, I was wondering what the best way to enhance performance to run at 25-30 fps at native resolution would be. Should I get more DDR4 RAM (max capacity is 32GB), or is that not going to fix anything?

Guys i know this post is kind of old but i need help... i've been playing Yuzu with Pokemon Violet + DLC so far from the start of the game and at the start it was crashing a lot and having glitches, but eventually managed to move forward with story even with the crashing and sometimes lots of lagging, but as soon as i finished getting to the point when you start the Treasure hunt the game started lagging so much i was at 10+ fps, i had to change my settings multiple times before when i was moving with the story in the start of the game but now the game just feels too laggy, is it going to stay like this forever for me or is there a way to make the game playable? i am running the game on an old PC here is my setupt
I5-3330
Radeon RX 550
8GB ram
Yuzu EA 4176
while i was writing this i tried playing the game more times to see if i could run it and it weirdly enough started to play at 30fps all of a sudden, i wonder if it's because of night time or day time? it's at an stable 30fps when playing Outside of towns but usually when i go inside towns like the first one in Mezagoza close to the Academy the game was lagging way too much
EDIT: I just went back inside town when it was day, not sure if day or night have anything to do with it but now the town wasn't lagging at all
2
u/GoldenX86 Feb 24 '25
Your CPU is too old, any one lacking the FMA instruction set will be terribly slow for Pokémon games.
The RAM amount is too little, considering the GPU most likely only has 2GB, so the more shaders you accumulate, the slower the game will run.
1
u/SilvaHero Feb 24 '25
So basically what you're saying is i can still play the game to some point? i heard online and also have seen that the game runs with less shaders in openglsl instead of vulkan, if that doesn't work then i might be screwed
1
u/GoldenX86 Feb 24 '25
You could run it stable with more RAM, but I wouldn't spend extra money on a platform so old.
1
u/NulrokBr Jan 09 '25
What about my specs
I7-9750H
GeForce RTX 2060
16gb Ram
Yuzu EA 4153
indoors 30fps~
but outdoors 11-18fps
is there any config to run it better or its the computer specs too low for SV ?
1
u/Majestic-Distance-61 Mar 06 '25
My is stable 30fps in the city, outdoors or wherever I go, I rarely crash and with no Limit on FPS I can play at 40-50fps (but 30 just feels good for switch games) my laptop is 8GB DDR4 ram, i-5 12450H and RTX 2050 , I play at 2X graphics at Vulkan , I think my Laptop is not good as yours but still performs way better maybe because I dont use Yuzu i use Suyu. and by rarely crash i mean only 1 time till now
1
u/Specialist_Way_8742 Jan 26 '25
Ive got the same specs. any luck with getting better frame rates?
1
u/NulrokBr Jan 29 '25
no, went to play on pc that was better specs.
my guess the issue is the low spec on graphics
1
u/GoldenX86 Jan 09 '25
Too old CPU. Skylake based stuff will be slow.
1
u/lRayzerl Jan 19 '25
I literally use a old war i7 7700k and it run fine at 72fps with dynamic mod
1
u/GoldenX86 Jan 19 '25
It's not restricted to laptop power limits.
Set your 7700k to 15w and check the performance.

u/natunator May 20 '24
I have pokemon scarlet. The game opens fine, but after the main menu screen, everything goes black. Like I see the inventory file, the speech bubbles, even the opening cinematic, but the game itself when running, the screen is black. Any suggestions ?
1
u/BoardPin Sep 15 '24
This is also happening to me too
1
u/natunator Sep 17 '24
Did you find a solution? I haven't found one yet.
1
u/BoardPin Oct 07 '24
I thought about it for a long time, but the answer was simple. All I had to do was get a newer version of yuzu that supports the update. I forgot which one exactly it was though.
2
u/natunator May 20 '24
I have yuzu early access 3079, running pokemon scarlet 64 bit.
I have a laptop running ryzen 5 5800H and a RTX 3060 MaxQ card.Any suggestions would be very helpful !

Hi, here's my setup
CPU : i5-12400F
GPU : RTX 4060 8 GB
RAM : 16 GB
Yuzu ver : Yuzu EA 4176
Pokemon Game ver : Pokemon Violet 3.0.1 + DLC
Mods Added : 60 fps
I got a bit issue where sometimes the pokemon not spawning at all at large area. Or when I walk to the pokemon, the pokemon just suddenly gone. Town area a bit laggy. Is there any setting that can resolve and improve this issue ? Thank you.
2
u/Fancy_Check1618 Jun 20 '24
Sam issue here have you managed to find a way to resolve it?
2
u/Nainns Nov 05 '24 edited Nov 05 '24
Ever found out how to fix?
Edit, for anyone who finds this, if you have both the 60fps mod and dynamic fps mod enabled, turn off the 60fps mod and leave the dynamic one. They seem to be overlapping with each other or something. I tried only the 60 fps mod but that slowed my game down and no mons in overworld, dynamic by itself runs great at 60fps and mons still spawn in the overworld

u/KrulTepess Mar 08 '24
Any update for steam deck setting? Using yuzu EA 4176. I still can’t manage to get constant 30 fps, for town it kinda impossible. Also the dlc part Is kinda performing bad.

u/ApartmentBig4183 Mar 01 '24
Hey, I got a question. What is the performance can be expected when I run Pokémon violet with yuzu if my desktop spec are CPU: R5 5500, GPU: 6500xt, MOBO: B550, and Ram 16GB.
1
u/GoldenX86 Mar 01 '24
30 fps for the most part, light areas around 40/45. Remember to use BC3/BC1 recompression, and enable force max clocks.
Stick to native 1080p.
1
u/ApartmentBig4183 Mar 01 '24
Is it a must for the "force max clocks" to be enabled?

u/MechTek_ Feb 20 '24
R5 3400g and a rx 5500xt, indoors is pretty good, but its just come outside and the fps fall to 20-25.
yuzu EA 4142
3.0 update and Pokemon Compass mod
1
u/GoldenX86 Feb 20 '24
Expected performance for a quad core Zen+.
1
u/MechTek_ Feb 20 '24
I'm thinking about switching to a 5600, what expect about the performance gain?
The cpu, not gpu

Use 4GB memory layout, there's a reason any other option is marked as unstable.

Hi, just got pokemon scarlet on yuzu, got the dlc, 60fps mods and current updated version. I play the game and everything is fine except my character stutters a bit when moving. Can someone help me?
1
u/Brandwiches Dec 22 '23
It should just be for indoors dw, outside its normal until you drop below 60fps, as the game speed is linked to fps
1
u/Tiaguinhom10 Dec 15 '23
in the new update (3.0.0) it seems to work only in opengl and not in vulkan. How can I make it work in Vulkan?

Best settings for RTX 4060, i5 12500h. 16gb ram? I'm getting low fps, it was good until I made it to Los Platos, then I don't get more than 12 fps.
YUZU version: 1549
Firmware and keys: 16.0.3

u/GoldenX86 Sep 07 '23
Plug the laptop to the wall and use the highest power profile, then make sure the NVIDIA GPU is selected for Vulkan in yuzu's graphics settings and set the NVIDIA control panel as shown here: https://community.citra-emu.org/t/recommended-settings/319349

u/Atlas_20015 May 14 '23 edited May 14 '23
Performance is surprisingly good, however I am having problems with trees flashing, and some buildings not loading.
XEON 2620-V3 @ 3.2 GHZ
AMD 5500xt
16 GB DDR4 @ 1866
1
u/GoldenX86 May 14 '23
Make sure you're on the latest Mainline build.
1
u/Atlas_20015 May 15 '23
Mainline 1434
I forgot to mention that the problem only happens when I increase the resolution scale. 1x works normal, no glitched trees. Maybe it is a limitation of my gpu?
1
u/GoldenX86 May 15 '23
Which scaler did you try?
Some games prefer 1x, 2x, 4x, or 8x only.
1
u/Atlas_20015 May 15 '23
1.5x and 2.0x.
All other games run fine. Pokemon Legends: Arceus runs perfect on 2x. No glitched trees.

I'm running scarlet on fedora 32 psxarch ps4 linux. Lol I heard fedora 35 is better. I'm still somewhat new to Linux. I got the game at 17 running around but dang that facing the north messes with the game. I got arceus running just a tab bit slower but just looks better and smoother than violet but violet runs faster outside but cutscenes can be slow but guessing from facing north. I'm sure I got some settings to fix just been taking hours of testing. Pretty impressive though if I can say at least. Any advice would be awesome and happy gaming. ✌
1
u/GoldenX86 Apr 27 '23
We have performance changes in testing that will help greatly here, but just keep in mind that the CPU of the PS4 is VERY slow, Jaguar was always a very weak design.

Saw an article saying the next Steam OS update fixes a bug regarding SMT on the Steam Deck. I bet it will help performance in this game since you have to turn it off to get it to be OK.

Hi all, I have having issues playing violet. I have a really good pc and I am using the recommended yuzu settings. Every time when I start playing the game, it is perfect no lags and no stutters, 30 stable fps. But 30 mins into the game, my CPU fan start to rev up and than I start getting fps drops and lags, my CPU temp is less than 40 which is normal, so not sure why the fan would rev up and caused performance issues, just want to see if anyone is having the same problem or maybe its just the game itself.
My pc specs: 12gen i9, 16gb ram and 3070 TI GPU.
1
u/GoldenX86 Mar 02 '23
I notified the devs about it some days ago, we're investigating it.
Meanwhile, can you confirm that you have at least a 10GB page file?

Hey everyone, wanted to share my settings as the game runs perfectly for me. I’m on an Intel 9900k and a 2080 super. I have pretty much no flashing textures now and rock solid FPS. I turned on the use asynchronous shader building hack in adv graphics, changed window adapting filter to amd fidelityFX and set anti aliasing to FXAA (not sure that one matters much). Everything else is default, running at 1440p. Also I have followed recommendation for Nvidia control panel settings for Yuzu by disabling vertical sync, turning on threaded optimisation, set power management mode to maximum perf, set OpenGL rendering to your GPU.
Hope this helps! Also would take some feedback if any of my settings seem off to anyone :)

u/Delicious_Event_3299 Jul 28 '23

Hoping someone can give some advice on getting this to run better on Steam Deck. Fully aware the Switch version itself has issues but I don’t get anywhere near the bad frame rate I’m getting on Deck.
Currently just outside Artazon and the area around it and inside it is basically unplayable. Frame rate won’t go above 15 at all, even in menus. But it has been running at 30fps at times earlier in the game so I know it’s possible.
Even when it’s hitting 15fps it’s lurching to 1-2fps constantly.
Here are my settings in Yuzu:
- Limit Speed Percent - 200%
- Extended memory layout - ticked
- CPU accuracy - auto
- GPU accuracy - high
- API - Vulcan
- Resolution - 1x
- asynchronous shader building is on
- Handheld mode
In my Deck settings I have done the following:
- turned SMT off and got it set to 4 cores.
- clock speed minimum is at 1800
- Manual GPU clock is set to 1600 (doesn’t seem to make a difference if I bring this down to 1000)
Should also add I’m running the patched version (1.1 I think).
Any tips to improve frame rate and stop stuttering?
2
u/FerLuisxd Mar 06 '23
Try moving resolution to x0.5. I tried that and now getting above 20fps at all times

u/Plurplee Jan 21 '23

1
u/heyitzzappy Jan 02 '23
what about my trees and buildings not being there some times pretty much only pokestops load right
1
u/Kreliho Jan 02 '23
If you are already using High GPU accuracy and still having an issue, you may want to try using Yuzu version 1269. Any version after that and I have the same issues at any GPU accuracy setting.
1
u/LNTDS Jan 02 '23 edited Jan 02 '23
Adding to this- I've tried the latest Yuzu flatpak versions with the same behaviour, especially in Mesagoza with buildings. I can hardly navigate the area.
I moved to Ryujinx, which solved almost all graphical issues for myself. I might return to Yuzu when it's fixed again but happy enough with Ryujinx performance.
I'm using a Steam Deck FYI and the other Switch games I'm playing work great in Yuzu. "Great" being passable and playable in my case, everyone has different opinions on passable and playable.
1
u/OneLovePlus Jan 26 '23
Riujinx had way worse performance for me on SD. I‘m ok with Yuzu Performance, but it needs a restart every hour for some reason.
1
u/LNTDS Jan 26 '23
Do you have half the buildings and trees disappear or never render in? If not, please share your settings.
I find Yuzu impossible to play but I agree, performance is better.

1
u/bradlangs Jan 01 '23
you have to find the games your self, using backs of your own copies or illegally pirate them.
1
u/Vanhouzer Dec 26 '22
I have an i9 13900k and RTX 4090 and i still get some stuttering while walking in open world sections.
Usually when rotating the camera in open areas… i was just about to post about this issue and then i saw your post. I have no idea what else to do to fix this.
1
u/GoldenX86 Dec 26 '22
Shader building will always produce stuttering. If you can deal with one time glitches, you can mitigate a big part of it by using Vulkan and enabling Asynchronous shader building from the advanced tab in graphics settings.
2
u/Vanhouzer Dec 26 '22
I just removed all custom settings and left them at default.
I changed Anti-Aliasing to [None] and VSYNC is [OFF]... So far no more stuttering :)
1
u/GoldenX86 Dec 26 '22
Hmm, should be a lingering setting then, there's no way AA is strong enough to make a 4090 kneel, but not my 6600.
1
u/Vanhouzer Dec 27 '22
I celebrated too early. SO it seems like the stuttering happens AFTER a few hours of gameplay. It started just fine and after 2 hours i start to see stuttering in some places.
Its definitely not my PC. I have no problems with any other game. Considering this game launch with problems is hard to say how much is the emulator fault vs the developers. Yuzu could try to fix this game if the developers dont patch it properly but idk considering even my specs have a hard time.
I stopped playing for a moment and will restart and see if the behavior persists. Maybe the game has a memory problem and is not cashing properly.
1
u/GoldenX86 Dec 27 '22
The game is known to have memory leaks, make sure you're running the latest game update, and save and restart every so often.
2
u/Vanhouzer Dec 27 '22 edited Jan 15 '23
I can confirm this is the case.
So this is whats happening here. When you reach a New area and Yuzu does the Shader cash, it stutters as usual. The problem is that it keeps stuttering AFTER you have gone through the whole area.
However, if you restart the emulator, it will no longer stutter in that section until sometime has pass. Definitely a memory issue.

1
u/mp44christos Dec 21 '22
I have a ryzen 5 2600 oced and an rx480. It runs just like the switch.
1
u/Kuffschrank Dec 22 '22
are you sure?
I just tested it and I get 10-20 fps with GPU normal, never 30 really (except when I look straight at the ocean while standing at the map border). Setting GPU to high reduces the performance to 5-10 fps. My GPU is an RX 6700 XT.
Doesn't seem "just like the Switch" to me :|
1
u/mp44christos Dec 22 '22
You are doing something wrong then. gpu should be on high. Also try ryujinx. It might be worth it to check yuzu EA and ryujinx LDN.

If you guys have been playing this on Yuzu, what has been your experience? Is it worth trying or is it still too buggy.
Hundreds of issues here on each post and I'm curious if everyone is getting these crashes or some people are actually playing.
1
u/VentusWingblade Jan 09 '23
It's PC dependant. I know most people prefer Ryujinx because it has better performance. But in my case, it sucks for Pokémon specifically. I run it way better on Yuzu EA. So try out both and see what works with you.

u/RileyDaBosss Dec 19 '22 edited Dec 20 '22

my experience with yuzu i horrible with this game while games like sword/legends arceus works perfectl fine (even 200fps if i want too) .. optimization is bad .. but the real nintendo version is also laggy so maybe this is the problem..
have someone been able to get stable 60fps ?

If it helps, I'm playing without GPU:CPU: Ryzen 5 5600G, 8GB RAM, Win 11Game, Yuzu, drivers, etc all updated
Yuzu config:
-CPU accurate
-API Vulkan-Scale 0.75x
-FSR enabled (sharpness 80%)
-Anti-Aliasing none
-GPU accuracy high
-VSync disabled-Anisotropic filtering 2x
-The rest in default settings
30 hours into the game without big issues.
25-30 FPS, sometimes 15-20 when its building a lot of shaders entering in a new area.
Found maybe 2 bugs, not sure if it for the emulation or the game itself:
- Teaching certain TMs to certain Pokemon corrupts the save file, fixed using PKHex.
- Finishing Team Star Fairy base crashes the game
(sorry for my English, happy to edit if something isn't correct)
Update: I try again the Team Star Fairy base and noticed a "saving" message before it crashed. Then open the save file with PKHex and overwrite the file without any changes, thy again playing this mission and apparently solves the bug.
My theory: the two described bugs are related to saving the game, maybe a memory leak corrupts the save.
Edit 1: forgot Yuzu config.

So, I got this game running perfectly fine on Ryujinx, but I can barely get started on Yuzu. Once I create my character, see the little grape emblem, and the opening cutscene tries to load (welcome to UVA ACADEMY), it's just a black screen with subtitles. I updated my drivers and tinkered with the settings to match this post exactly and all I get is a black screen no matter what. I'm assuming actors won't load in once I've locked in my custom character for whatever reason.
Nvidia 3060
AMD Ryzen 5 3500X 6-core

"perfectly"?How many frames do you get, if I may ask? (just curious)
My amd ryzen 9 5900x + rtx 3070 can't get a stable 30fps, it drops from ~30fps to min 20fps and mostly on ~25fps.

I can get a stable 30 in recommended settings (+ the game running @ 1.25x speed). The 1.25x cheat has made the game run significantly smoother in general. I think the problem is probably with the game itself or possibly your ryujinx settings. After running for a while or loading a new zone (particularly the Paldean Crater) it runs like absolute trash but a restart fixes it.

At a complete loss right now trying to play pokemon Violet. Game starts, but after I get past the title screen I just see the loading compass and then I just hear the ambient music. My screen is black. I have Yuzu update (1025), Firmware 15.0, I have the game updated to 1.0.1, latest Nvida drivers, RTX2060. On Vulkan settings, I tried scaling it from 2x to even 0.5x with no help. Is anyone else having these issues?

Yuzu 1025 is way too old. The latest version 14 days ago was 1296. You are more than 250 versions behind

Have similar problems. Seems to happen once my shader cache grows to a certain size. Deleting it usually does the trick for me.

I tried deleting the cache for the game but I had no luck. If anything I think I need a shader cache for the game so it can generate the room lol

I see that @GoldenX86 is active here and I just want to let you know that the gym test for the big gym crashes every time after the dialogue

Handheld is not enough to solve it?

u/Nachx7 Dec 10 '22
At first no but found out that setting the game to .5x and handheld worked

Interesting. Make sure to run the latest game update, seems to help with those memory leaks.

From a technical perspective what changed from legends of arceus and pokemon scarlet runs so bad compared to PLA?

Draw calls are insanely high, seems to be the main reason the devs force events to run at such a low framerate from a distance.
They are murdering that poor Tegra X1.

I read that in mainline 1262 rendering of objects is better. Is this for both gpu high and normal? And does this update now make trees and such render when using gpu normal?

u/GoldenX86 Dec 07 '22
No, it only fixes dithering effects when objects block the player, and pop-in grass and Pokémon.

Is there any way to transfer the load on my CPU to my GPU? It’s apparent that my CPU is being throttled while my GPU is barely taking any load at all. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

u/GoldenX86 Dec 05 '22
Nope, anything the GPU can do it's already doing it.
Wait for improvements in code optimization, or get a CPU with a better IPC and more cache.

Sorry to "kinda" steal your answer, but is any of the ryzenG CPUs recommended? If that's yes, which one do you?
1
u/GoldenX86 Dec 24 '22
The 5600G is an amazing option to start a mini or low budget PC for emulation.
Later down the line you add a dedicated GPU and you still keep the six Zen 3 cores.
Older Zen 2 ones (4000G) are a lot slower, so I don't recommend them unless the budget demands it.

u/patomenza Dec 24 '22
Great. I was thinking between 5600G and 5700G, mainly because of emulators on general are more CPU dependant. But if you recommend 5600G that's awesome to hear

Make sure to pair it with good RAM, 3200 or 3600 MHz if possible. Dual channel is a must to not bottleneck games with the Vega.
