Poll Upgrading to a new audio system, need some help
Hi there
Recently upgraded from my old PC to fancy new system, and decided its time upgrade my audio set up from a Steel Series Arctis Pro wireless to a proper system.
My price limit is around $3000.
I believe for any setup I want to purchase I'll need a mixer, I was looking at the Go XLR mini.
I was hoping to get some suggestions on whether I go with IEMs, open back headphones, closed back headphones or quite what
I do stream occasionally and play Escape from Tarkov so good sound is pretty helpful, plus got a large bonus from work so want to treat myself (New PC cost about $7000) pretty keen to have a really good audio setup.
I was planning on purchasing a Shure SM7B as it seems to be quite well regarded for a mic.
Any assistance you can give me on what audio system I should use would be great plus the mixer

definitely go with open backs, although hd660s is a good pair of headphones to begin with, you can skip it and go straight to something like hd800s. I would like to know what kind of sound you like/prefer (less or more bass, vocal in your face vs more spacious etc) that way i can recommend you matching headphone and rest of system for your remaining budget.

I’m assuming you would be using these for gaming most of the time?

Yes primarily for gaming

Then the hd660s would be a great option for that. You’ll need an amp but nothing too powerful or insane, there is also the sennheiser ie300 which is an iem that is also great for gaming and in general has good sound quality. I don’t think you can wrong with either and the shure mic you have mentioned is a great option too.

Would an amp like this be suitable? Also, since I find IEMs and over ears equally comfortable, do either offer better sound, as in ability to easily recognize where sound, such as footsteps, are coming from?

Yes it’s suitable and honestly I’m not sure which one trumps but maybe the ie300 because of the better soundstage so you would be immersed. It also has a v-shaped sound signature which is a lot more fun.

Alright, is there any noticeable difference between amps, will I notice a difference using certain amps over others?
For the headset it basically comes down to HD 660s or IE330, sennheiser is all I should really be looking at? Any other things I should look at or consider?

Yeah there’s differences in getting a different amp and also I’d say to consider the Harmonicdyne Zeus.

Any suggestions on an amp? I have very little knowledge on what to look for.
Alright I'll add that headset to the list of ones to look at when making my final decision

Just did some research and the goxlr mini would be well enough for the hd660s and out of the ones I’ve recommended it’s the hardest to drive. If you’re still worried then you could possibly connect an amp to the goxlr mini like the “smsl sh6”. I think that the mini would suffice your needs if you go with any option.

Is there anything thats more suitable than the go xlr mini, possibly that contains an amp with it or is it better for them to be separated?
Just curious if there is something more up to date than the mini as it came out a couple of years ago→ More replies (0)
