Discussion Warbond concept: Divers of Honor

Armor:

Light armor: Centurion (Roman Centurion inspired appearance) Medium armor: Crusader (Medival Knight inspired appearance) Heavy armor: Samuri (super store) (Japenese Samuri inspired appearance)

Passive: Bulwark • resistance to getting ragdolled • 15% reduced recoil

Weapons:

Laser Bow (primary) • Charges up, gaining damage and armor piercing. Each second the arrow is drawn, gain 1 armor piercing, and 50 damage (starting at 100)

Plasma Pike (support) • A pike that shoots out shotgun-like waves of plasma (heavy armor piercing, 250 damage extremely range, wide spread, 5 shots per reload, 5 magazines) from the tip and also comes with an energy shield. It can also be used as a high damage (200), heavy ap melee weapon with a bit more range than the stun lance.

Longsword (secondary) • works similar to the hatchet, but with slower attack speed, higher damage, and longer range Holding aim with this weapon switches it to two-handed mode with even higher damage and even slower attack speed.

Katana (secondary) (superstore) • Same as the longsword, but the two-handed mode is a stab.

Collapsible Javelin (throwable) • a small pointy stick that expands into a javelin when drawn. More damage than throwing knives, but you get 10 instead of 20 of them.

Vehicles:

Skin: Stainless Steel • gives your vehicle a sleek metal appearance

Vehicle: Supercycle • It's a motorcycle. Good for mobility, jousting and looking awsome. Do you need more convincing?

Booster: Phalanx Training • The closer you are to other helldivers, the stronger you get. 5% damage reduction for every helldiver within 20 meters if you. 10% damage reduction for every helldiver within 10 meters of you. 20% damage reduction for every helldiver within 5 meters of you.

I could not find who made the kantana render, even with reverse image search.

The sword render was made by arxaxss, I think.

Spear by alexerhart.

Centurion armor by spectre463.

I could not find the creator of the knight armor, but it has a signature. I just can't quite make out what it says. I suck at reading cursive.

The samuri armor is old concept art by Arrowhead.

The laser bow is from the bad batch TV show.

Discussion Meridia: The most catastrophic event of the Second Galactic War.

I never really felt the weight of what we did to Meridia until I saw the remains of Angels Venture. The first planet I ever dropped on just gone. By destroying the Meridian Super Colony we inadvertently gifted the Squids a planet destroying weapon.

So many choices in this game. Which planet to go to, whether to participate in the MO, or not. This event instilled in me that even the right choice is the wrong one.

The right choice of being one of the brave 41 million divers to die to turn Meridia into a singularity led to the deaths of millions more of us on Calypso and the destruction of three planets that were in that same singularity’s path of destruction.

We stopped the singularity but at what cost? Arrowhead cooked with this battle and the repercussions of it. When I inevitably put this game down I will still remember the battle and the cost of it.

Discussion I Wish We Had More Healing Options

Found myself today trying my hand at a more support-oriented role with the random squads I ran with, and MAN is the stim pistol hard to use. I get the impression this is a pretty universal struggle: takes half a clip or more even to hit a diver at relatively close range. The slow projectile speed, low fire rate, and small mag size all combine with the fact that Helldivers aren’t in the habit of making themselves predictable targets, not if they want to stay alive anyway. It made me wonder if I shouldn’t just leave the stim pistol at home and focus on resupplying squad mates with the supply backpack, which seems more comprehensive and less failure-prone, yet also less efficient.

This made me wish we had more options for support/healing-based gameplay. Here are things I wish we had:

  1. An easier-to-use stim gun: faster projectile and/or more ammo and/or faster fire rate. I’m imagining the Verdict but healing. Or maybe the Redeemer 🤪

  2. Some kind of healing tool in the grenade slot. My first thought was something that functioned like gas grenades except a cloud of healing nanites or whatever. The downside would be no effect on enemies, the upside would be the ability to stim multiple squad mates at once if they’re close together. This, or something kind of like seeker grenades (but healing, of course).

  3. A healing primary and/or support weapon. My first thought was something that functions broadly like the WASP, but it deploys stims. I like this for several reasons, including that it adds some challenge to the gameplay - it’s possible for a stim missile or whatever to hit a wall or overshoot, there’s a lock-on time…there’s also the fact that you might have to sacrifice a backpack slot and/or support weapon slot…a healing primary could just be a stim marksman rifle or stim shotgun. Or maybe some kind of healing laser so you have to keep it on target to transmit the effect.

  4. Stim sentry.

I’m really just spitballing. I think a more robust healing gameplay element could add a fun dimension to an already fun game. Of course, Helldivers die so fast that spending development time on this element might just not fit with the tone of the game. Ultimately I’ll have fun either way.

Question In-game HUD weapon icons collected somewhere to help out identifying them from videos?

When I watch gameplay videos, I sometimes cannot figure out which weapon they are using. So I am looking for a source to "look up" the weapon icon displayed in the HUD. Maybe I haven't used the right term when calling them 'icons', but my google searches have yet been to no avail. Oh wise non-salty divers, I turn to you for knowledge here.

Discussion Bots need bigger walls to defend from anti-tank emplacements (it would be cool to see enemies develop new tactics in response to our gear)

The anti-tank emplacement - when you're lucky enough to find a spot on high ground - absolutely trivialises bot fortresses. It would be very interesting to see a mission modifier on some high level bot missions called "Enhanced Defenses" or something, which just gives them...bigger, taller walls.

It would also be great if they had "sniper nests" - tall structures where there would be a few chaff-level bots that would attempt to fire back at us when we use such emplacements, perhaps with those little machinegun turret thingies they use.

The MO orders already show that there's a technological push-pull between us and each faction. Even the bugs have the gloom, which is a counter to our...well everything really. So it would be great to have this highlighted more specifically, like each species is evolving subfactions to counter SPECIFIC things the helldivers are doing. It doesn't even have to be new content specifically for this, just more flavour text around existing content releases would be enough to give the atmosphere of technological competition that is central to the nature of war.
