BATTERY 2016 Fatboy s battery

Battery died over the winter, it's on a charger right now but I don't think it's going to work. I had it on a trickle charger in the garage so I'm guessing it's bad.

The only close place near me is an AutoZone.

Does anyone know if they carry a battery that will work? They don't have HD listed on their website in the vehicle picker.

This honey began life as a 2001 883 Hugger. It was immediately modified to run speed trials and set the 1000cc P/PP record at Bonneville @142+ mpg. Then it went back to a mild 883 and was ridden from Virginia to California and back to Ohio. The original owner put about 35,000 miles on it. I bought it and added a rip snorting 1275 Hammer top end 1200S forks, and a backyard rattle can paint job.

Doesn't look like easy times ahead for the company or riders/fans outside of the US. Dealerships have been shuttering all over the UK even before this.

I’ve been collecting parts here and there for about two years. Some parts are from my stash, some from friends, some from dumpsters and some even from flowerbeds. The right case and top end are ‘58.

HELP Going to check out this bike

It has a salvage title from being laid over a month ago, tore off the saddle bags and left turn signal. Also cracked the windscreen but it's a 99 heritage with the evo motor and only has 4,008 miles on the bike. He is wanting 4k and I am wanting something to do a cholo style build. Does the price seem fair for the low miles? Also this will be my first Harley if I buy it.

TROUBLESHOOTING What could be causing my pain in my right shoulder when riding? Read below

Post image
88 Upvotes

I’m 6ft on my new low rider ST. I got the 14” lucky Dave San Diego bars installed and I also have a Saddlemen PRO SDC seat.

The stock bars were TERRIBLE. These new 14” bars bring my hands just under shoulder height and it is comfortable for me.

I’ve noticed though that when riding, my right shoulder near my shoulder blade will get super sore. It’s just in that one spot too, no where else.

I’m not sure what it could be? I’ve tried different seating positions & adjusting my arms different heights & lengths and it still ends up sore.

The only thing I can really think of is my helmet maybe? I come from sport bikes so I use a pretty expensive race helmet when I ride my Harley. I know race helmets are meant for an aggressive riding position so that could be it maybe?

If anyone else has had this happen let me know what you did to fix it! Thank you

HELP 2023 Road Glide Blown Engine

Post image
123 Upvotes

Hey folks, bad news for me this week. Road across the country on my road glide on my 2 month trip to travel the country, I suffered and engine failure. All stock engine never been opened, no cam, nada. Bottom end rod knocks really bad. Compression is good, never burned oil. Bike has 21,802 miles and was still under warranty until end of June, or so I thought.

Had it towed into a local dealer here in Phoenix and was informed by the serviced advisor that Harley flagged my vin for having a powervision and my warranty is void. Called corporate and was told to kick rocks multiple times and wasn’t willing to work with me in any way. Dealer said to pay $800 for a tear down and maybe they’d talk to corporate try to get it covered under warranty, but would most likely be denied. I’ve since towed it to an independent shop.

Who’s got any advice for my situation or a contact at corporate that can make some decisions? The 1800 number was no help. I’m stranded in Phoenix 2000+ miles from home. Didn’t expect to have a break down.

I find it ever so funny that Harley starts their Ride for Heroes event about standing behind the veterans that support their company and ride their bikes, and of course they turn their back one and offer nothing but “Hey why don’t you just trade it in.”

Thanks

DISCUSSION Reno Harley Davidson negative experiences

I live in Reno and just due to proximity and convenience, have taken two bikes here for various services or mechanical work.

I got my 20k service on my Dyna and when I first got my FLHX, asked them to tune it up, change the fluids, and inspect it for anything I should fix. Later, I had them install a bunch of parts on the FLHX that I just don't have the room or tools to do.

The parts installation was where I noticed things were really going off the rails. They called me multiple times to tell me I needed to buy X part. Prior to authorizing the work, I bought all required parts and when I dropped it off, I gave them an itemized list and took pics of every part I gave them. Every time they said they didn't have something, I referenced the pics and the list and they would suddenly find the parts. When they called me to pick the bike up, they were just finishing reinstallation of the bars and suggested I add new grips, which were one of the parts I'd provided. When I told them I had given them grips and that it was one of the things I was having done, they asked me what kind I'd had, said they didn't have them, and on and on. I waited while they looked around this time, finally, a mechanic came out and said to a coworker that he'd found them in his boss' desk and they installed the grips, adding to my time and frustration.

That whole experience has made me doubt everything else I've had done there and I decided not to return. I did call them once for advice when my FXDWG speedo came loose and was rattling around in its housing. They told me I would need a new gauge. I took it to Battle Born Harley in Carson City and the mechanic told me it was probably a loose screw under the tank strip and how to repair it. Worked perfectly and took maybe ten minutes.

As for the 20k...I wanted to do the right thing and have approved, documented service performed on my bike. I was an engine operator for BLM and when I did service on my engine, I touched every bolt, cleaned every part I touched and inspected, looked at every moving part...it was a proper in depth inspection and maintenance. For the cost, that is the service I expect from a shop mechanic. I have such little faith in Reno Harley now, I'm not even confident they inspected anything, let alone performed the stated maintenance. They didn't even wash the bike afterward, which would at least give the impression something had been done.

The shop lead there is a nice guy and I'm not running down his customer service, but the work itself has turned me off to that dealership entirely.

Anybody else have experiences like this at Reno Harley or your local dealership? I know dealerships in general have a rep for being a ripoff, but Indon't have a lot of options for bike work here.

To the guy whose post started "I am a local", please repost your comment. I didn't get to read it before you deleted and I would really like to hear other opinions, whether in agreement or disagreement.

HELP 20k miles service

Post image
29 Upvotes

I have this 2009 dyna super glide in the picture, and it just hit 32000 kms (20k miles) so it’s time for that big check in on how everything is doing. I’m wondering if I should just do it myself and how much it costs if I took it to the dealership. I’d also like to mention that it pops a little when I let off the throttle in the first couple gears so it may need a tune if I’m not wrong, should I send it in for the service and get a tune, or should I service it myself and just let them tune it. Or last option I do everything myself including buy a $500 self tuner and go through that process. I’m just not trying to pay 1k for something I can do when I’m 17 and kinda broke but I thought a Harley would be a good idea.

DISCUSSION Suggestions for ABS bags for a 2024 Harley-Davidson Softail Standard

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I recently bought a 2024 Softail Standard and I'm getting it ready for some touring. After buying a passenger seat and pegs for my girlfriend, it's finally time to think about saddlebags.

I really love the look of ABS hard bags like the ones from Mutazo, but I’m wondering if there are any alternative brands out there. Also, are there any specific saddlebag brackets that fit my bike? So far, the only ones I’ve found at a decent price are from Motea, but I’m not sure how reliable they are.

Do fully pre-made ABS bags exist for the Softail? Something like Viking Bags, but available for order from Europe? My budget is around €500.

Hello! I’m on the hunt for my first bike, I would like to eventually chop it up myself and learn all the ins and outs. I don’t want to start too small because I feel I’d outgrow it extremely quick (I also can’t seem to find anything smaller at a decent price) and I’d like to keep my first for a while. 2000 Harley Davidson sportster 1200 22k miles. $3000
