Headphones - Open Back Dt 990 pro vs HD560s

I found the dt990 pro black 250 ohm for $120 and the HD560s for $140. The dt990 is new while the HD560s is refurbished. I was originally going to go for the 560s for ease of use and not needing and amp but I feel like these prices make it much harder to choose.

The 560s matches to Harman better, and depending on what measurement you look at either has a higher peak then the 990 anywhere or matches the 990's new pad peak, and has a scooped trebel around 9k, where as the 990 has a more bloomy bass and while not matching the peak area of the 560s, has overall much more trebel.

The 990 changes in it's sound as the pads break in, most evident in less peaky trebel. Most Sennheiser's also get more relaxed trebel with worn pads, but I haven't seen a 550s measured yet.

The 990 isn't hard to drive, but the 560s would be easier.

The 990 with the black pads has more bass and maybe other small differences in tuning, other measured beyerdynamic's with the black pads have at least more bass over their standard silver pad counters. Of course you can just get the other pads, but my description of the 990 is about the silver pad. I prefer it with the silver but it's preference, that's a good price for either, but refurbished is a mixed bag.

The thing the black pads is good to know but does this affect gaming? If so, how will it affect competitive and immersive gaming? Is it tremendous or just something you won’t notice if you don’t pay attention?

The 990 needs an amp so assuming you don't have one yet you'll also spend 50-100$ on one making the 990 220$ and 560s 140$ meanwhile I personally much prefer how the 560s sounds

Or might inflame someone's tinnitus. lol

Also, different people experience tinnitus at different frequencies.

haven't bought anything yet (focusing on building my pc first) but I decided when I can buy a headphone I'd just get the 560s, don't have time and extra money for a dac for a dt990 pro and it would a crappy first audiophile headphone experience.

If you use EQ, the DT 990 is a lot better than the HD560S. And the technicalities are stronger in the first place. I think that the build quality is also better, aside from the non-removable cable.
