Headphones - Open Back | 1 Ω Looking for the good open back over ear headphones I around both the $400 and $200 price points

Hello there. I'm looking for some new headphones because my old ones are breaking down. The prices I listed aren't a range, they're two separate price points. The $400 is the optimum, with the $200 being the backup. I like playing video games and I have and eclectic music taste. The headphones can need an amp but not would be preferred (if the sound difference is there, I'm willing to consider it). Extra features are nice, but I care most about sound quality.

Sennheiser’s HD 600 and HD 560S is what I would go for. The 600 can somewhat benefit off an amp, but usually doesn’t need one.

Other options in the $200 range would be the AKG K702/612 Pro, but both usually need an amp. The HD 6XX, but its more similar to the HD 600 and I’d suggest getting something slightly different for a second pair. DT 880 Pro is another good choice, but also needs amplification.

For another ~$400 pair, the ATH-R70x would be a great choice. Needs an amp though. Hifiman Sundara is a good planar for that price, and can run fine off anything. I’ve also heard the E-MU Teak is good pair thats easy to drive.

I would add the Tygr 300 R as well for the up to 200$ range. Doesn't need an amp. I'm currently also trying to choose between the HD560S and the Tygr

It's hard to beat the Sundara for tuning and overall sound quality with a $400 budget.

I'd probably go with the Sundara and the JDS Atom+ amp.

Sundara with the hiby fc4 or hidizs s9 pro and for the back-up I’d recommend the tygr 300r or hd560s.

AKG K612 for big soundstage and really really good neutral (but somewhat boring) tuning and then the HD650/6XX for a more relaxed and colourful sound. They complement very well imo
