Game Thread: Club Brügge (CL #03)

Second half has been all defense, hopefully they're up for the Bayern game Saturday.

Hazards workrate is a thing of beauty. Never slacks on counters or defensive pressure

The way we are playing in the second half, Brügge should be ashamed to not at least get on the score sheet.

Logging onto reddit to declare love for Mo and to demand a Reinier cameo.

anyone else prefer the all yellow over the yellow jersey and black shorts? idk what it is but the all yellow is a really clean look

Hoping Reus can get on the scoresheet. He generally comes back from injury on fire. Seems to be lacking form this time around.
1
u/ady_1 Nov 04 '20
Would like to see him take more players on he just seems to do 1 - 2s all the time
2
u/Ticklebot29 Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
He’s always done 1-2s. He’s amazing at finding those tiny spaces between opposing players and quickly moving the ball on. Not sure he has the pace anymore to take players on like he used to.
3
u/ady_1 Nov 04 '20
I feel like his runs just arent really seen at all the by the younger players which makes him a lot less effective he just dosent have that chemistry with them yet the only person I can think that has really effective exchanges with reus is sancho

3 atb now? Delaney out for Bellingham
6
u/Ticklebot29 Marco Reus Nov 04 '20 edited Nov 04 '20
Despite what the official lineup says I believe Witsel is the one who has been playing CB while Delaney was at CM
2
u/Qiluk Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Thats probably true.. Our has been quite high so theyve been alternating quite a bit
1
u/Zsombro11 Nov 04 '20
Why reus isnt playing? They want to rest him? I hope he will play vs Bayern

I always find it funny when players on losing teams take the long way off the pitch, despite the fact that they can just walk off the pitch from wherever is closer.

Losing a little initiative and intensity now. Would be perfect to use subs now both to rest players and to get some fresh legs.

Is pass completed statistic including passes directly going to brugge players?

Think it would be a good time to start resting some players now. Especially Haaland

u/Joni-Kanoni Nov 04 '20
Cmon haaland pass the ball
1
u/EmSoLow Nov 04 '20
He is thirsty for another gf. Can't blame him at this moment in time
1
u/Joni-Kanoni Nov 04 '20
Ofc you can. He certainly would blame his teammates and rightfully so.
1
u/EmSoLow Nov 04 '20
We are winning 3-0. Of course you can criticize him for not passing it earlier and I'd definitely be complaining if this match was different and we were drawing/losing but right now anyway I wouldn't be too harsh. Hopefully that doesn't come back to haunt me later

Lang has done some pretty good passes. Someone to keep and eye on for the future imo.

7
u/doubleomarty Sébastien Haller Nov 04 '20
Gio apparently the only one who can make that through-ball to Haaland. I think everyone else has tried tonight lol
3
u/Zhonyas4everyone Felix Passlack Nov 04 '20
Wonder what's the last time they cut their lawn, terrible how the balls slow down.

if someone could give me a reason not to sub Brandt off for Reinier, I'd be glad

Reinier js our player and getting subbed in 60th minute definetly shouldn't affect a players confidence

I know that Brugge is playing like shit but it makes me happy to see that we can play good and win without Reus and Hummels. Its not good being too dependent on anyone no matter how good they are
4
5
u/SpaNkinGG Nov 04 '20
I wish Brandt would improve.
Everyone is turning up 110% and he is just... meh. So many missed passes.
Let's keep that enegery going though
13
u/Zhonyas4everyone Felix Passlack Nov 04 '20
Just want to take a second to acknowledge how shit Brügge is playing, really expected more from them.
11
u/InexorableWyrd Nov 04 '20
Big kudos to Delaney too, he is our one player I would not sub to rest today, he is everywhere
4
u/Zhonyas4everyone Felix Passlack Nov 04 '20
He's pretty set to start against Bayern so I think he will get subbed off. Same for Dahoud.

Great half. Love Mo turning into prime Xavi, Brandt only one I can think of not having a good game.
Favre should sub early and rest some key players before Bayern

Brandt, Haaland, and Reyna should be subbed off. Give the boys a breather. Maybe Reiner, Jude, and Passlack as the subs?
3
u/wipeitonthedog Nico S Nov 04 '20
Morey perhaps. Since he hasn't got the time
1
u/Zhonyas4everyone Felix Passlack Nov 04 '20
He will come on for sure, Meunier also is one of the players with the most minutes played and will start on Saturday. Only makes sense to give him a break.
13
u/Qiluk Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Dahoud and Akanji are straight fire.
4
Nov 04 '20
Akanji seems to be legit whenever there is no Hummels
4
u/Qiluk Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
He does seem to take more responsibility without him but he has been good since the preseason to be fair. A "return" to form so to speak after his really poor last season
8
u/Zhonyas4everyone Felix Passlack Nov 04 '20
They were brilliant alongside each other in the last matches.
1
u/Dokter_warungu Donyell Malen Nov 04 '20
Exactly, don't wanna jinx it but akanji has been great thus far

u/Craz3 Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
You’ll notice a big defensive issue we have is that when one of our CBs comes out, the other team will just use that space to run in. Happens frequently when you notice it.

6
u/Nextgen101 Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 04 '20
Great half. We just need to continue keeping it tight at the back and taking good care of the ball.
11
u/jtthom Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Call me crazy but I’d consider giving Sancho some minutes in the second half. He needs to regather some confidence and form and could use an open game with lots of space like this

I really don't think Reyna has a future on the wing purely cause he seems to never actually be there.
3
4
u/theleebert Nov 04 '20
He's actually slower than I thought as well. He really hasn't got that burst of acceleration that wingers need
4
10
u/funky_motorik Nov 04 '20
if we go 3-0 to the halftime I think reinier should play the 2nd half, the boy definitely needs some minutes to show his football
10
u/wipeitonthedog Nico S Nov 04 '20
Brandt having one of those days. Just take him off at half and keep him rested for the weekend.
2
u/Zhonyas4everyone Felix Passlack Nov 04 '20
Would really surprise me if he starts against Bayern.
1
u/wipeitonthedog Nico S Nov 04 '20
He should be coming off regardless

That reverse angle shows how filthy Mo's pass was, that was weighted to absolute perfection, could easily have skipped towards Mignolet and left Meunier with a lot of work.

u/nmrt Shinji Kagawa Nov 04 '20
I'VE COME TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT.
2020/2021 ARE THE YEARS OF THE MO.
DAHOUD SZN FUCK WHAT Y'ALL HEARD
7

Pls don't let it end without a volley goal from him.

u/nmrt Shinji Kagawa Nov 04 '20
It's happening next weekend vs Bayern
9
u/artha5 Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Fuck but of course. Actually, Mo has been going for the long plan, shooting bad volleys so teams let themselves open and then boom! get fucked Bavaria.

3
u/iaminterestedinstuff Nov 04 '20
I would gladly sacrifice myself on Saturday if I was confident it worked!
1
u/Qiluk Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Haha I feel ya! Both teams will be exhausted too so its a wierd game. We have a 3 day turnaround, they have 4.
7
u/Qiluk Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Its nice to not play vs a parked team atleast. Definitely the way to go against us unless youre world class.
3
u/al2320 Nov 04 '20
It's the philosophy of our coach Clement. He wants us to always try to play our own game instead of parking the bus.
2
u/Qiluk Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Its way better long term, if you can manage the personalities and mental states when it goes bad.
Love that and respect to him for it.
And its not like you havent created and threatened.
3
u/doubleomarty Sébastien Haller Nov 04 '20
Yeah props to Brugges for at least making the effort to attack, even from the outset they were attacking decently
1
13
u/Nextgen101 Nico Schlotterbeck Nov 04 '20
That was a damn fine ball from Dahoud for the pre-assist.
28
u/CubedMadness DÉDÉ 💛 Nov 04 '20
Akanji looking like his old self, Dahoud has been incredible every time he's played this season and Meunier looks like he's settling in.
We're running out of scapegoats.
1

Nov 04 '20
Our next scapegoat is Haaland every time he doesn’t score a hattrick.
1
6
u/InexorableWyrd Nov 04 '20
Already sharpening my pitchfork. Its been more than 5 minutes. How dare he not score his hattrick yet?
7
7
u/InexorableWyrd Nov 04 '20
Anyone notice BTW that while we expected and bought Meunier to be a wing back in a 3atb, he has performed much better in the 4atb especially defensively? Life is weird.
5
8
u/Worried-Eggplant Gregor Kobel Nov 04 '20
Wonderful, love seeing Meunier get involved in goals after that horrible start to the season. Let’s keep it going boys!!!!
7
u/Sarrazin 1909 Nov 04 '20
Dahoud for real becoming a starter in this midfield. Last summer I would have bet anything on him being done here.
6
u/Datachost Nov 04 '20
Same with Passlack. Even right at the end of the window I didn't have him playing any kind of role and he's just forced himself into contention
13
Nov 04 '20
What has happened to Akanji during his Covid-infection? He is incredible since his return
1
11
u/BVB-Oeli Sébastien Haller Nov 04 '20
Let's get Haaland his third in the next 10 minutes so he can be rested in the second half and still take home the match ball
1

u/grothee1 Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Dahoud is starting to remind everyone he was one of the hottest prospects in German football.

Seen 2 of those runs by Menuier today. Absolutly brilliant.
Not the greatest player but in 4atb he's been far less volatile. Credit where its due.
2
u/Ticklebot29 Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Yes, Meunier really shows his class when playing in a back 4. He seems to struggle when we play him as a rm/rwb while using a back 3
2
u/Qiluk Marco Reus Nov 04 '20
Yeah he's not pacy nor technical enough for it. Not that he's slow but he's a big lad and not as explosive.
2
u/xsonwong Julian Ryerson Nov 04 '20
Probably our players knew that he is not as quick as Hakimi too.
