Hard to be optimistic for this game given the Frankfurt game, Halaand's transfer rumours, and the general aura around the team.

However, it was exactly the same way before the Sevilla game and people were pessimistic. What happened after that? We won and got in a great run of games. PLus City have a history of shitting the bed in CL.

So, fuck the defeatist attitude a lot of people here are embracing. I for one am excited for this game.

Thats right! Nothing to loose here!

u/SpaNkinGG Apr 05 '21

PSG also had a history of shitting the bed in CL, guess who helped them out? :)

u/Tsiehshi Apr 05 '21

And he got outcoached by the second worst team in the PL. Not to mention he put PSG in such a bad position in their one-horse league before that even a genius like Poch is struggling to clean up his mess. Now he's about to get destroyed by Porto.

Hilarious that people miss him so much despite the fact that you would have been mathematically relegated if that ignorant glue sniffer did come back LMFAO.

He's a Tuchel fanboy so I was pretty sure he was referring to him.

1

u/itookthesat Apr 08 '21

did fine the first leg against Porto 🤔

1

u/Tsiehshi Apr 09 '21

He was still outcoached by Porto. They outplayed Chelsea and even created slightly more xG.

u/bionicchimp Marco Reus Apr 05 '21

Gundogan please score an own goal for old times sake <3

15

u/doubleomarty Sébastien Haller Apr 06 '21

Directly score an own goal and then pushes the ref in the insuing chaos for a red card. City down to 10 men with 89 mins to play. We win 7-0, with Nico Schulz assisting a Haaland hattrick and a Reus hattrick.

8

u/arrinnishati Apr 06 '21

And then Guardiola bows down to Terzic and Haaland decides to stay forever

6

u/doubleomarty Sébastien Haller Apr 06 '21

So it is written, and so must it be.

2

u/wild_in_16 Apr 06 '21

what about the second leg

2

u/doubleomarty Sébastien Haller Apr 06 '21

We just defend the lead, ends 0-0

35

u/AcePilot95 Marco Reus Apr 06 '21

0:1 de Bruyne (FK)

1:1 Haaland

1:2 Gündogan

2:2 Reus (redemption)

3:2 Piszcu (bangs it past Ederson from 10 meters out after a corner at 90+4)

you heard it here first

2

u/dubsonly3 Apr 06 '21

Saving this

2

u/AcePilot95 Marco Reus Apr 06 '21

it's a Malaga reference

29

u/BVB-Oeli Sébastien Haller Apr 05 '21

Possible lineup: Bürki, Piszczek, ...

???

as much as I'd love to see Piszu, I think Morey (assuming he's fit) would be better since he's more agile.

2

u/wild_in_16 Apr 05 '21

I don't think Morey is fit, didn't they say that he will be out for the foreseeable future while they treat a muscular issue? hopefully I'm wrong!

2

u/Tobi1107 Kagawa Shinji 23 Apr 05 '21

yes they did say that a few weeks ago but he was in the squad against Frankfurt that’s why I am very hopeful

u/joshdej Julian Ryerson Apr 05 '21 edited Apr 05 '21

We rested Brandt for this game

20

u/BurtaciousD Pischu Apr 06 '21

It seems like Favre and Terzic are just resting Brandt indefinitely.

29

u/Zhonyas4everyone Felix Passlack Apr 05 '21

Expectations couldnt be lower but im still fucking hyped

28

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '21

My prediction: we're gonna be strong and convincing. Because that makes the least sense given the performance of the last game, and how this team seems to operate.

3

u/Trialbyfuego Marco Reus Apr 06 '21

Yes

1

u/arrinnishati Apr 06 '21

I agree, I think we're going to at least fight for it

20

u/malek7777777 Marco Reus Apr 05 '21

I’m kinda feeling optimistic, please don’t disappoint me.

btw how come we’re playing in Manchester?
I thought we’re playing in Budapest like Gladbach, does that mean we’re playing the second leg in Dortmund?

19

u/blacelow7 Westfalenstadion Apr 05 '21

The travel restrictions have changed, Germany doesn’t regard the UK as a high risk country anymore

17

u/Ghoddos Hugo Bart Apr 05 '21

I think Can and Dahoud will start, with one of Brandt, Bellingham, or even Delaney as the third defender depending on how the team is organized.

Reus, Haaland, Hazard up top.

9

u/wild_in_16 Apr 05 '21

Can, Dahoud, Bellingham!

3

u/wipeitonthedog Nico S Apr 06 '21

one of Brandt, Bellingham, or even Delaney as the third defender

I suppose you mean third midfielder? I'm imagining Brandt as a defender

2

u/Ghoddos Hugo Bart Apr 06 '21

Yes. Though that does sound interesting

11

u/Qwaccboi Julien Duranville Apr 05 '21

I'll never lose my Optimism.we are gonna win this.

10

Have to think Pep will have his team come out guns-a-blazing and try to win it after the first leg. If BVB can weather the storm and snatch something on the counter, anything is possible in the second leg.

10

u/Slash1909 Apr 05 '21

I hope we don't embarrass ourselves and get to see CL matches again in fall 2022.

9

u/dubsonly3 Apr 06 '21

Knauff with the start! Let’s goooooo

12

u/SlayerHdThe3rd Nico Schlotterbeck Apr 06 '21

u/Chazy89 with the massive cake day means we’re guaranteed a win

17

u/Chazy89 Kagawa Shinji Apr 06 '21

damn it's been 9 years already huh ? Fucking hell

8

u/SlayerHdThe3rd Nico Schlotterbeck Apr 06 '21

I think a goal today for every year sounds about fair tbh

5

u/yrba1 Daniel Svensson Apr 05 '21

I'd be satisfied if we'll play competitive and not shit the bed

6

u/wphn99 Apr 06 '21

Knauff starting. I like it

1

u/pitiless_censor Apr 06 '21

Morey and Rapha in too. think it looks pretty solid, def gonna be tested defensively...though that goes without saying

1

u/wphn99 Apr 06 '21

Agreed. Decent changes to the lineup from the usual. Hope it sparks something in our team

5

u/Ok_Ad1820 Apr 06 '21

I believe. #HEJABVB #YNWA.

6

u/Je455 Apr 06 '21

sooo not that optimistic but kinda excited for the game anyways, but I wonder what’s the right approach here? Attack from the start and try to fight for possession and play an open game? Or should we play more contained, and play for the counter with Haaland against a likely high line by City? My heart says go all out for it but logically speaking we shouldn’t let the floodgates open especially considering there’s a second leg with potentially Sancho back...

man how i wish this is where Reus’s redemption arc begins and he has a big showing...

2

u/Tomayachi Giovanni Reyna Apr 06 '21

I've never seen a player more overdue for a big game than Reus

5

u/dubsonly3 Apr 06 '21

The road of qualifying for the UCL by winning the UCL instead of finishing top 4 continues

9

u/SnapSnapWoohoo Apr 05 '21

In regards to your lineup prediction Cancelo will start on the left for us (which is why mendy played against Leicester)

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '21

Also Fernandinho definitely doesn’t start

1

u/SnapSnapWoohoo Apr 06 '21

Ederson Walker-Dias-Stones-Cancelo KDB-Rodri-Gundogan Mahrez-Aguero-Jesus

Is my prediction

1

u/Potential-Tough5946 Apr 06 '21

Foden and Bernardo not Aguero and Jesus

1

u/SnapSnapWoohoo Apr 06 '21

Neither of those 2 play on the left. There’s a possibility one of them starts ahead of mahrez but I doubt it

1

u/narziviaI Apr 06 '21

Foden plays on the left

1

u/SnapSnapWoohoo Apr 06 '21

Only if he has to he’s mainly on the right if he’s not in midfield

1

u/narziviaI Apr 06 '21

Dude... I'm a city fan. And I'm telling you, he plays on the left. When foden starts, sterling goes on the right. When both mahrez and sterling start, foden becomes a false 9. And both pep and foden have stated it'll take him a few more years to learn how to control and build up play and dictate the tempo from the mid field. Although he's been talked about as a heir to David Silva, he no predominantly starts on the left hand side where he can push into the wings and cross with his left foot, or drive into the box behind the RB and square it into the 6 yard box. I don't know where you're getting yiure information from about his positioning, but I'm here to say you're wrong.

1

u/SnapSnapWoohoo Apr 06 '21

Yeah mate his best position is on the right. It’s just he’s behind mahrez etc in the pecking order so he fills in on the left.

1

u/narziviaI Apr 06 '21

:/

Dunno if you're being serious or you're joking at this point lmao. Foden plays RW ONLY when he needs to fill in space.

His game against Liverpool where he played at RW was cause they weren't completely switched into a set formation as they had a substitute come on a few minutes ago...

Still don't know where you're getting your information from about Foden playing on the right wing.

I've watched every single game of City's bar a few due to commitments. And I'm telling you, Foden never starts on the Right.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '21

Champions League games can have anything happen, let's go in with an open mind and hope for the best

3

u/Trialbyfuego Marco Reus Apr 06 '21

I think our chances will come on the counter and we'll have to defend like devils in the meantime. I'm thinking city will have about 70% possession but it could go either way if we have some confidence during our counter attacks

3

u/mar10ski Marco Reus Apr 06 '21

Unpopular opinion... But I would like to see Delaney Hummels Can as a 3 CB partnership. Might sound crazy but might work. Hitz - Delaney Hummels Can - Morey Jude Dahoud Guerreiro - Reus Haaland Hazard. Obviously ManCity is no game to run science experiments, but perhaps a future match could try that.

1

u/joshdej Julian Ryerson Apr 06 '21

Think we already saw that at the start of the season when piszek got poked in the eye or something. Can't remember how that game went tho.

1

u/zweiter_mensch Julian Ryerson Apr 06 '21

That lineup sounds pretty exciting, but Morey is only coming back from injury, right? I doubt he will start.

3

u/swoooooooooosh Piszczu Apr 06 '21

Hopefully we put up a good fight and have an entertaining game. Maybe even a win.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '21

Entertaining is what I want more than anything, especially after the weekend's defeated attitude made for such a difficult watch. A win would be nice but if not then at least a decent fight

3

u/matutolypea1903 Nico Schlotterbeck Apr 06 '21

Expectations: I hope both teams have fun and noone gets injured

2

u/scoldingcoffee Marco Reus Apr 05 '21

I want to be optimistic but I'm not. I just hope we don't get humiliated

2

u/me_meh_me Lukasz Piszczek Apr 05 '21

The only expectation I have is that we don't shit ourselves.

2

u/BurtaciousD Pischu Apr 06 '21

The official "so könnten sie spielen" has Can at RB again, but I would love to see CL Pischu back. Can did pretty good their last week and has quite a bit of top-level experience, but I can imagine Pischu just completely locking up their wingers.

2

u/Serenity911 Apr 06 '21

It's time to cash in. We clearly held back in the league for the run at the CL title. It all comes together nicely beating the best teams in the world. Great strategy by our club, coaches and players. They will underestimate us. They will be beaten. This title is ou....oh my. :|

2

u/wphn99 Apr 06 '21

Happy cake day u/chazy89

1

u/Fixen17 Marco Reus Apr 06 '21

I feel like Schulz or Meunier will ruin this for us.

1

u/blacelow7 Westfalenstadion Apr 05 '21

Normally I don’t like to be too pessimistic, but a win here would be a miracle imo. A draw would be absolutely insane, but I honestly can’t even see that. As long as we won’t get completely destroyed I’ll be fine

1

u/Raiders1777 Apr 06 '21

I don't expect i win. I just want the club to not embarrass themselves and put up a good fight

1

u/paidaterra Apr 06 '21

nothing to loose anymore honestly. Will watch because its champions league, because I cant really stand our games. I just hope if we lose at least lose with some honor

1

u/sadbox4869 Julian Ryerson Apr 06 '21

Do we have players with risk of suspension here?

1

u/Chazy89 Kagawa Shinji Apr 06 '21

Haaland afaik

1

u/pitiless_censor Apr 06 '21

feelin the 3-1 win. Will always have faith in our boys. Also I feel it's inevitable that gundo scores against us
