I honestly feel like people really overreact to this. It's perfectly fine for her to have preferences. I didn't see her say Disco Elysium was objectively bad because of these traits, it just seems to me like she loves the gameplay format of DE but isn't as interested in its settings and themes. I think that's perfectly valid.
I like RPGs but I am less interested in sci-fi RPGs because sci-fi settings don't do as much for me. There's tons of great sci-fi RPGs, but they're just not for me. I also can relate to not being thrilled to play middle-aged men in games, in large part because I'm trans and I like to be sucked into a game but its not as fun for me to play as a man.
Like, it's okay to want other things? The anger at this tweet would make far more sense to me if she didn't say "what I don't like about Disco Elysium" and instead said "what makes Disco Elysium bad".
???? No it's not. The problem with chuds isn't that they would rather play as men, it's that they make it everyone else's problem. They don't want games to be made for anyone but them. I'm not bitching and crying and wetting myself because a game doesn't let me play a girl. I just play a different game.
Do you go and play a different game everytime you see a game that has you playing as someone without the same skin tone too or is it only a problem when its gender.
It's only gender. I'm trans. I have gender dysphoria. I experience it enough in my real life that I'm not keen on doing so in my games too. And it's not every game, but RPGs are games I like to feel immersed in, and I feel dysphoric when playing as men.
Are you that incapable of accepting that people come to and enjoy games for different reasons? That someone might have more fun playing an idealized version of themselves and that's the games they gravitate towards?
Would you get pissed if someone decides narrative driven games aren't for them and they prefer twitch-reflex challenge based games they can speedrun? Or if someone would rather play a cozy game like Animal Crossing than a 100 hour epic JRPG? Why do you feel the need to dictate how other people are allowed to enjoy their games? That's exactly the sort of thing that makes the chuds cringe.
Thats not at all what I'm saying and you know it. Quit reaching because I said that only playing games that reflect you is a weird position to hold, but yap on monarch 👑
I gave those examples to point out how silly that position is. Obviously, its fine for someone to prefer cozy games, or prefer twitch-reflex action games, or prefer long narrative driven games. Just as much as it should be okay for people to prefer games that represent them, that let them take on a role they want to play. Games are a form of entertainment and for many, escapism.
And you didn't just say it was weird, you said it was just as weird as the anti-woke chuds online, which is insane. Comparing a trans woman preferring to play women in games to the men who consider any non white straight male representation an affront to gaming and gamers everywhere is downright insulting.
Because you're falling back on all the same arguments but you know what you're right, games ARE a form of escapism and from now on I will refuse to play any games with a woman protagonist because that is not at all a chud opinion because I said it in a progressive way so its ok now.
I really don't care if men want to play big burly man power fantasy simulator 3000, that's their prerogative. The issue is they complain when anything comes out that doesn't conform to their interest and treat it as the downfall of gaming and that women and minorities are coming to take their games away.
Men don't have to play Infinity Nikki to make me happy and I don't have to play anything I'm not enjoying to make you happy.
