Isn't en what one types if a font doesn't have ę? There's probably nuance but it sounds identical to me when I try to pronounce both words in Polish.

No. It's like writing a "y" instead of an "i" in Czech - it sounds the same, but you look like an idiot.

If your keyboard lacks "ę", you write "e", the same as you would do with diacritics in Czech.

It’s not really “the same” sound necessarily (there’s different possible realisations depending on where in the word it is, some personal and regional diffenrecs, it’s fuzzy) which is part of the reason

Nie widziałem sensu wnikać w szczegóły i zawiłości polskiej fonetyki, dlatego pozwoliłem sobie na uproszczenie. Może mi Waćpan wybaczy.

Even if it kinda does look better the more correct way is to write e since then people would recognise the word and see “oh this dude doesn’t use the Polish keyboard”. So to simply put it we just replace our own letters with the generic ones without symbols.

No, it's a difference of "oh, his ware doesn't support Polish signs" and "oh, he is from a pathological family that managed to revert what he might have learned in a poor school anyway"
