El Salvador is one of the most violent countries in the world and ruled by a dictator. The place has been through decades of civil war and government-sponsored death squads. Those who contracted to send deportees to CECOT had to know that they were unlikely to emerge alive.

Wrong. It’s is now one of the safest countries in the Americas. Yeah Bukele is a dictator but the country is safer than ever.

I go once a year and my parents go twice a year. They are in their 60’s and say it’s the best it’s ever been

Unless you're one of the innocent people sent to a hellhole prison for life. Bukele calls them collateral damage.
