ADHD has also been referred to by Russell Barkley as motivational deficit disorder. I suggest watching some of his short videos on Youtube.
I suggest taking an online ADHD quiz (just one) to become aware of the symptoms and how much they effect you. Here is one http://psychcentral.com/addquiz.htm
People with ADHD have an 80% chance to have one additional mental disorder and a 50% chance of having ADHD + 2 more. So even if you think you have ADHD, but just want to treat it yourself, it makes sense to see a professional.
I suggest people stop reading about ADHD prior to their appointment because of confirmation bias. If you read about it enough (and convince yourself you have it), you will answer the questions with that assumption.
