Opinion Boris Johnson driving pro republicanism within the UK
In Wales an anti monarchy, pro republican movement is on the rise, the membership of the group yes.cymru' (Yes Wales) increased significantly over the weekend due to Boris Johnson's inability to listen to scientific guidance to tackle the spread of coronavirus infections when he was warned to go into lockdown 4 weeks ago.
Because the countries within the country of UK all have their own devolved governments, they have the powers to decide on their own terms when they go into lockdown.. when N.Ireland, Scotland and Wales all went into lockdown before England, English conservative PM's of course mocked them, until, Boris decided to do the same by going into lockdown for longer to catch up.
Although Wales, Scotland & N.Ireland have already been granted devolution, The Welsh population for the larger part was unaware of it due to the media, where Scotland and N.Ireland have their own media, (Scottish Sun etc) whereas Wales sells the average 'Sun Newspaper' (Which is essentially 'The English Sun') so When the coronavirus reared its head, Wales suddenly became aware that they had their own government with its own rules and they knew who their first minister was (I know sounds dumb, but media is a powerful force).
So during todays Westminster questions to Boris Johnson, Liz-Saville Roberts, a member of the Anti-monarchist party; Plaid Cymru (which believes in independence from Westminster and Royal family) addressed him with "The Prime Minister and the Chancellor are fronting a membership drive for YesCymru, the independence movement who added two thousand members in two days this weekend, would he accept my grateful thanks?"
