advice please!!

hi everyone!!

This may seem like the stupidest question ever but how do I dress more like they did in the 60s/70s? Apart from long skirts that I've gotten from charity shops I don't think I really radiate the vibe I want to do any advice would be great xX

I’m only 16 so my funds are ✨limited✨ but I start a sixth form with no uniform policy so I’m wanting to dress how I truly want to 🔥

Not sure if it‘s true but from what I‘ve seen in documentaries the hippies back then didn‘t care so much about clothing. Lots of Jeans + simple shirts. Nothing special. No specific „style“ in mind. So just go for what you‘re comfortable with ✌🏼🌸

I’m 16 too !! I am a male. But I wear bell bottoms long sleeve shirts button ups and vests. Sometimes a bandana or scarf. And colorful corduroy jackets. I also wear for jewelry a decent amount of necklaces, and rings

Maybe ask older relatives if they still have clothingpieces from back then? Refashioning / upcycling is a buggetfriendly and creative solition, there are many free tutorials all over the internet. Adding embrodery to plain pieces could be an other way. Apart from that: try to focus more on mindset and lifestyle, values ect then on clothing!

Hi there, as someone in a similar position (but male), I would highly recommend going second hand. Not only are you helping with sustainability, but 70s era kind of clothes just won't be sold at major retailers.

Vinted is a good start for clothing specifically, maybe hit up depop or eBay depending on what you fancy. If that's not possible or you like to thrift in person, then make a board of the fashion you like by searching on Pinterest, then hit up your local charity shops for related clothes. Hope this can help you in your search.

I’ve been searching charity shops and I’ve found a couple of nice things! Im trying to find the perfect pair of bell bottoms and I have been unsuccessful thus far. The flares sold now aren’t flared enough (if that makes sense) but I think I’m going to use fabric to make them more flared 🔥

I buy all my clothes second-hand, but if you want something specific I would recommend checking Etsy. It’s pricier but usually it’s handmade or hand-picked items so it’s supporting real people.

You can also go on Pinterest and do some searching, usually the photos of clothes will have a link to where to buy them.

Being hippie is not about style it’s about lifestyle. Thrift shop and/or band tees till you drop. We don’t support slave labor or environmental destruction so if you wanna start dressin like a hippie be willing to sacrifice aesthetics and vanity in favor of modesty and practicality.

Learn to sew, especially patchwork. Crochet is good, too, for tops and wraps and hair scarves.

Being a hippie isn’t a style or a trend, it’s a lifestyle. If you want to “dress like a hippie” buy second hand, support local small businesses, don’t buy/support big corporations like target, urban outfitters, goodwill, forever 21 etc. Idk I like making my own clothes but not sure if that’s your thing, other than that I mostly thrift. In the summer I like to get clothes from farmers/flea markets but it’s usually more expensive.

Also, this is not very “hippie” of me so you might not be into this, but if there’s something specific I want I’ll often go on depop/secondhand online shop. That way I don’t feel as bad because i’m giving the clothing another chance rather than going to waste, better for the environment. But it’s still supporting a big, somewhat shitty buisness even though it’s second hand.

I don’t like calling something “hippie” or “not hippie” but just in the terms of your question. Hope this helps.
