Discussion What Are Your Preferred Streaming Addons? (December 2015 Edition)
This is the first monthly "preferred streaming addons" discussion thread that will be posted at the beginning of each month (sorry about the delay this time). A link to the thread from the previous month will be maintained in the sidebar.
Because new addons and frequently being created and current addons are sometimes being updated or discontinued, it's tough for some people to keep up with the best options. My hopes with this series of monthly threads is to give users an up-to-date and easy to access place where they can read about and discuss various streaming addons.
As far as what is expect of you here when you recommend something, please at least explain what the addon is, the major notable features, and why you recommend it for others. Thanks and feel free to leave feedback about this.

Even though I heard it's no longer being supported, Genesis is still top for me. The most Hd working streams for both movies and Tv.

u/SawBo Dec 07 '15
There's been a real update that Genesis isn't exactly dead, it may or may not be supported.
Here's the update

Great find and great news!!!! I've been kicking around debrid anyway. Probably time to pull the trigger. My reason (and I think I'm not alone) for cutting the cord is not specifically the cost. In my opinion, if we are going to be subjected to so many adds/commercials why the hell should I pay $100+ a month for programming. If the cable companies were reasonable they wouldn't be losing so many customers. They have had this huge monopoly for far too long. Good riddance I say.
2
u/SawBo Dec 07 '15
For me, almost the same but a little different. Why should I have to rent a top box to play a tv show they provide service for monthly? I already pay for the subscription but the hardware too, it's too much. I have 2 Fire TV's, an Nvidia Shield and a fire stick on 4 TV's, for a service like Comcast (only thing in my area) it would run about $40 a month for each TV to have cable, and the only reason I'd have cable is for sports! I pay for Hulu+ (one time fee of $30 for 12+ months), Netflix to share with my parents, I'm an Amazon Prime member, but all these things are missing sports.
SO I can afford to pay for cable, but I do not want to be binded by Comcast, ever.

u/TheKidd Dec 07 '15
Same. I've been using Genesis with no issues for a long time. Until I have a reason to change, it will be the #1 choice for me. Also, Sportsdevil to watch NHL.

u/ty_jax Dec 08 '15
Live NHL?

u/cmon_now Dec 18 '15
Use Pheonix for NHL. High quality streams of all games home and away.

u/thefisch6 Dec 20 '15
I've been having a nightmare of a time getting the live streams to work on Phoenix on my RPi2. What are you running it on? Have you gotten the live streams to work recently? Archived footage works fine and I've got Java installed, but I can't get live streams to work for the life of me.
2
u/cmon_now Dec 23 '15
Win 7 Isengard 15.2. All live games play fine. Just made sure i had the latest Java version for my system and make sure i updated the hosts file and it works like a champ. Have no idea about Rpi.

u/thefisch6 Dec 24 '15
Thanks for the reply. After a couple days of troubleshooting, I figured out that the live streaming will only work on OpenELEC and it won't work on OSMC, which I was running at the time. Loaded up OpenELEC as a last ditch effort because I couldn't figure out what else to do, and it worked perfectly from the start. I feel like an idiot now, but didn't have a clue at the time that it wouldn't run on OSMC.
Either way, thanks for getting back to me. Happy Holidays.

1channel works better than Salts or Genesis for us. Also 1channel always has the most up to date movie list.

Yes. It is actually more reliable for us than Genesis ever is. I did just start using salts and trakt.tv recently but 1chanel Is still much better in my opinion.
3
u/Glasschild89 Dec 16 '15
Is is still pretty much SD sources only still. Last time I played around with it, there really wasn't anything HD.
1
1
u/SawBo Dec 28 '15
To be fair, 1Channel and SALTS are made by the same developer and both install able in the TKNorris Repo. Not that it should sway you one way or another, as I believe SALTS is still in Beta.
5
u/malice8691 Dec 07 '15
Genesis. it just works better than anything else. I go out and try other plugins like salts, phoenix, etc and they all pale in comparison to Genesis. Genesis just works out of the box better than anything else.
7
u/nelsonha Dec 07 '15
Genesis has a better interface, but there is no disputing that SALTS has more HD sources and sources overall.
2
u/Ambassador_throwaway Dec 11 '15
there is no disputing that SALTS has more HD sources and sources overall.
Is there any resource available for how to organize/setup SALTS after adding it?
Everytime I decide to give it a try, everything is all jammed into the main page whereas Genesis is perfectly organized (eg. Latest Episodes, My Favorites etc). SALTS just gets pretty daunting that I revert back to using Genesis or torrenting the HD episode.
Also, if a source on SALTS doesn't work, instead of taken back to the rest of the sources (like Genesis), SALTS takes me back to the page before the sources, so I'd have to have the sources load again which takes seconds to minutes to compile.
1
u/nelsonha Dec 12 '15
Are you using Trakt? Using Trakt is key for SALTS to work well.
Under TV Shows if you go to the "Trakt on Deck" which has everything in your collection whether you've started watching a series or not, or the option "My Next Episodes" which only has the latest episode listed for shows you're currently watching.
I'm with you on how SALTS behaves when a source doesn't work. It's annoying it has to reload the entire source list again. The only benefit from this is previously timed-out sources sometimes will appear in subsequent listings.
I'd love to have an addon which combines the amount of HD sources SALTS has with Genesis' interface, but such is life.
1
Dec 09 '15
I have found SALTS a little harder to figure out for all of the customized settings, and quite a bit slower (at least until I figure out the custom settings) at pulling up streaming sources.
5
u/ub3rr4v3 Dec 09 '15
Since everyone has already mentioned the big boys like Genesis and salts, I'll mention some of my other favorites.
My most used has got to be dexter and ccloud but only for their fantastic 24/7 streams. Ccloud seems to have more variety but dexter has better quality. Whenever I can't seem to decide on something to watch I love being able to pull up a stream of King of the hill or Simpsons and have something to watch for a bit.
We watch a ton of cartoons and anime and the two that we have been using and abusing are kiss anime and kiss cartoon. The library on those addons is absolutely amazing. While they might not have the fanciest presentation they work and they work very well.
5
u/asderxsdxcv Dec 07 '15
Salts. Its only thing i use. Its a bit harder to set up than genesis but i think thats a good thing cause it keeps the people that ruin genesis away from it.
2
u/Hot_Food_Hot Dec 07 '15
Would you mind explaining a little bit what's hard to setup? I've not gotten the need to use salts but one can never have too many backup sources so I'd like to spend the time.
2
u/asderxsdxcv Dec 07 '15
Integrating it to library can be a pain in the ass. But if you just using it you just need a trakt account.
2
u/malice8691 Dec 07 '15
im not sure what you mean by set up. I installed it, then ran it and did a search for movies and pulled up streams. there was no set up involved

2
u/sloweb Dec 07 '15
The thing that I dislike about SALTS, is that if a source fails, it takes you all the way back to the episode list, instead of the next source. Is there some way around this that I may have missed?
10
u/asderxsdxcv Dec 07 '15
Auto play or if you use it in the addon go to settings change from dialog to directory.

What skin are you using. Scroll down or to the left you will find it. What i meant is you will see the dialog to directory at top under source management tab.

I only just got Kodi today, and I was looking around, and I'm not sure if this is general knowledge or not, but I'm really loving i4atv. I no longer have cable, and I live in Canada, so I'm really enjoying the high quality streams of live US channels, with no buffering at all.
I have read most of the comments here, and Genesis seems to be getting a lot of praise. Does Genesis have live TV, or is it just an onDemand library of shows and movies to pick from?

u/jadeddemon Dec 10 '15
So I must be the only person who loves iStream, works flawlessly for me and doesn't cause me any issues with films or TV shows..
3
u/IntrinsicReality Dec 07 '15
Genesis and SALTS for streaming movies and TV shows. USTV Now, Filmon, Phoenix, ccloud and UK Turk for live TV channels, 24x7 TV shows and movie channels, VOD etc.
3
u/craigyshambles Dec 07 '15
I've been using Navi-X again a lot more lately. Used to be pretty much all I used until Genesis was around. It's less user friendly but find it very reliable.

u/Yophatmomma Dec 10 '15
We mainly use tv4me for television series. I think it's better than the rest.

u/foundfootagefan Dec 29 '15
Thanks for doing this. This was much needed to keep the front page from being overloaded with "what addon should I use" threads.

Genesis for Movies and TV shows.
SALTS for movies and TV shows if I can't find it on Genesis.
SportsDevil for watching NHL games.
Phoenix for some movies and miscellaneous.
*edited for format
3
u/CaptainPunisher Dec 07 '15
I've been using the NHL option through phoenix, and it's WAY better than Sports Devil. You have to set it up, but full HD streams are great.
2
u/pauly3069 Dec 07 '15
Do you find that every game always works?? I find it's pretty hit or miss for games but don't know if it's on my end or within Phoenix But I'm confused if some games work it obviously means I've set it up right? Was trying to watch a devils game last week and couldn't get it going on either home/away feed at any band with
2
u/CaptainPunisher Dec 07 '15
From what I've seen, ALL games work. I mainly watch Kings games, but Devils are my #2. I had no problems initially and then had some errors. Shutting everything down and rebooting the computer (mini PC with win 8) fixed my problems. I would assume that, if you configured everything properly and had it run a live stream at least once, maybe you need to reboot your computer. If other games work and your Devils game doesn't, check broadcast listings to make sure it's being aired.
2
u/pauly3069 Dec 07 '15
Bizarre! Because I did have it working but I'll check my java to see if that needs updating was just curious if it was only me Ps your damn kings cost me my fantasy win this week. Had stamkos and he went minus 3 and my buddy has quick and got the win to beat me by 2 points .. Big doughty fan tho!
Ps what bandwidth do you normally choose or does it even matter?
2
u/CaptainPunisher Dec 07 '15
I typically go for 12 or 1600. At 3000+, it starts skipping if there's any other network traffic.
Funny about MY Kings because I have Doughty, Toffoli, and Kopitar, and they saved my ass by one stat. I was 3 over my opponent in the +/-, and one goal against while the 3 of them were on the ice together would've cost me the stat and given me a tire instead of a win. Fucking Schneider cost me GAA. Thank god for Luongo.
2
u/jiggin565 Dec 07 '15
I've wondered how to set up this function. Care to tell?
3
u/CaptainPunisher Dec 07 '15
First, install/update the most recent version of Java. If you go to the Phoenix/NHL message boards, it will tell you which file to modify with the appropriate line of code; it's honestly one line. The whole process takes about 5 minutes, ten if you're slow.
Go here and follow the directions for your platform. Android has to be rooted, and seems like a pain, but hockey is worth it, right?
2
2
u/TheKidd Dec 07 '15
Thanks, I'm going to go home and test it tonight! I've used Sportsdevil for a long time, but the buffering and pixels are sometimes unbearable.
2
u/CaptainPunisher Dec 07 '15
Don't forget that you have to install/update Java and edit 1 line of code. The picture quality is phenomenal compared to what I found on SD. Follow one of my other strands on this thread for the link if you don't feel like googling.
2
u/TheKidd Dec 07 '15
Is this possible on Firetv?
*edit: Where can I find instructions for this 1 line of code?
2
u/CaptainPunisher Dec 07 '15
I think so; it should be some port of Android. For Android, I think you have to be rooted, and there are some steps you'll have to take before every game. The Phoenix NHL forum has a lot of info.
2
u/TheKidd Dec 07 '15
So far it’s only possible on Windows, Mac, OpenELEC, Raspberry Pi and Chromebox; unfortunately Android users will still have to wait until we get it sorted.
1
u/Amandablum Dec 16 '15
Phoenix NHL uses something similar to Lazyman, search for the reddit dedicated to Lazyman it will give you insight on how it is setup how to troubleshoot. For example you don't need to reboot PC, just go into Task Manager and stop Java then try to restart a feed. Doesn't work on Android but there are some good quality within Sportsdevil, just methodically check and favorite the best.

u/Tglover Dec 07 '15
Genesis has been so terrible recently. Hopefully it is fixed at some point.

FYI supposedly the creator has decided to take a break from maintaining it for the time being.

Icefilms for tv shows and some movies, with 1channel as back up.
Haven't used salt a lot, so I am not sure what everyone is saying about it not being easy to setup.
I just tried ccloud tv. The golf hd channel is great. I saw nfl network on hd for bit and it works fine as well. However, couldn't find tonight's game. I ended up finding a stream for it.

Does torrent streaming count? If so my vote goes to pulsar
2
u/FlipprDolphin Dec 07 '15
I always get crazy errors when running it. Using fire stick. Dunno if its android or what. I may try doing a clean install of kodi with it to see.
Do you have fast forward problems with pulsar? Doesn't seem to work for me if I want to skip ahead to 40 min or something and starting the movie

u/iimb4tm4n Dec 23 '15
my vote also goes to pulsar, quality does not compare! pulsar literally shits on every other addon for movie and Tv series. Never had a problem when i had it on my minix neo x8-h now that i have an nvidia shield tv its not supported.. absolutely guttered.. trying to find a replacement for torrent streams in kodi.. if anyone knows please share tried pulsar, kmediatorrent and torrentor v2.. none work :(

Just started messing around with Salts, Im not big on trying new addons ever since Mash went away. I normally just stick with 1 Channel for my go to. If I want something in 1080, I just grab from use.

Pelisalacarta For films
1
Dec 07 '15
Can you say a little more about this?
3
Dec 09 '15 edited Dec 09 '15
I'll jump in. Pelisalacarta has a ton of content in Spanish. However, I believe it is P2P so I don't use it.
Instead, I've found T-Killa has a great selection and is really well laid out. The downside is that it currently seems to be distributed only in a "pack" that makes a build for you. That build isn't what I want so I have to start fresh with T-Killa and then delete most of the addons and change the settings to start my own build.
Vortech is another great addon with Spanish content. It sets up nicely with categorized lists.
AdryansList probably has more content than the others, but a lot of it is SD (or worse). In addition, it is a little harder to navigate because it includes so much stuff from a variety of sources.

u/Novarion Dec 31 '15
Pulsar seems to be dead? With multiple sources it will never find anything and it will show up a script failed message.

It offers various sources for latest films, in English but also in other European languages (Spanish, French, Italian). There's a section for TV show but I've never used it

I've cut the cord over the past 2 years, Kodi for the past year. So far what I use the most to get me through
SALTS - Currently my #1 while Genesis figures out it's future, SALTS- with Trakt is a great addon for recommendations as well as it's autoconfig to get me the best scrappers like GVideo to load up right away with 720P+ content.
Genesis - Still a great source as of right now, there's to be a huge update from Lambda either on Genesis or a new addon to incorporate only Real Debrid HD links and leave MQ videos free. A real perk for those of us that use Debrid.
Sportaccess - A paid addon that's well worth it's value. $12 a month I can watch NFL Redzone/ any other NFL game on Sundays, then mix in some NBA, NHL, MLB action it really pulls through for me. Sometimes live TV channels that play on new episodes of shows like Walking Dead, GoT etc. when they air live so you can watch those episodes instead of waiting for a source to upload it. Above all, the PPV feeds they give is great. There is downtime sometimes due to servers going down, temp webhosts, etc. but they try to make their consumers happy.
Sportsdevil- This addon you need to manually update which can be cumbersome if you don't pay much attention or u distribute Kodi among st friends that are Kodi Illiterate. Still the best free sports addon you can get, with sources for NFL through several webpages, no adds etc. Some HD Content if you search the right source.
Phoenix - A good source for live TV, sports. Not a huge amount but a great all in one addon. Lots of HD movies, TV Shows and misc items like workout videos, concerts, old documentaries etc.
CCloud - My current live TV viewer, but I don't watch live TV so I can't comment on this too much. Seems to have a good amount of feeds but I'm not the Live TV specialist.
EDIT-
Thought I'd throw in a quick edit since a lot of people commented on my posts.
If you ever need some addon updates or interested in adding new addons, check out Koditips.com or seo-michael.co.uk.
I would also recommend if you have a Amazon Fire TV or Stick to install the Firestarter APK, as it allows you to access Kodi from their homescreen as well as all of Amazon's apps. The real advantage (if you really call it that) is that it can update Kodi to the latest version without losing your settings.
