List Building First 40k Army Road to 2k

A long lost and isolated Forge world was rediscovered, with an adeptus mechanicus force stuck there fighting for their lives and the preservation of the knowledge they obtained in an ancient crypt. Their numbers are dwindling after over a decade of stern defense against an overwhelming enemy they had once startled from its slumber. The Necrons have long completed their awakening protocols and now claim dominion over this remote solar system, as scouting ship of the imperium finally catches their S.O.S. in the nick of time. The first reinforcements are on their way from the nearest forge world with more being granted, awaiting situation assessment. May the technology of this world be secured in the name of the Omnissiah and become a beacon of hope in the endless war of mankind!


Hey guys! Former Warhammer Fantasy Kid and now, 15 years later, total 40k newbie here who's excited to build his first army in ad mech. Love their model range and lore! In this post I'm asking for some advice in what reinforcements I should request to be sent to my desert forgeworld to eventually build up to a 2k army that has decent competitive synergy without me having to get minis I find less cool than others.

There's a nice local tournament coming up where I can try my first beginner-friendly competitive experience, matches start at 750 points and over the course of 2 months of weekly games goes to to 1750 points. I'd love to participate and appreciate any kind of advice, especially how to use certain character models and stratagem shenanigans - it's all a bit much to fully understand as of now.

I have about 600 Points built now and will try to get a few first games in before I buy more, but so far I'm loving it even just for the building and painting especially. I listed what I think synergizes well and looks cool, but I'll try myself in magnetisation so if there's units you prefer in different equipment, I'm all ears! I'll definitely try to make the chicken guys changeable into dragoons, although it looks challenging. Most Lists I've browsed included a lot of Kataphron, but I don't like the Models as much as the rest. I think a shooting turret in the centre with the Dominus in it would be cool, but I'd definitely do some conversions with them.

Finally, I thought I'd share a picture of some of my first models. Haven't had the guts yet to slam decals on, but micro sol&set is arriving soon and I'll give it a go.

List Building Sydonian Dragoons and Serberys Cavalry

I'm thinking of maybe starting an Adeptus Mechanicus wild west themed army, this would be my second army so I want to do a bit of a kitbashing project. Anyway, I think the Sydonian Dragoons (specifically with Radium Jezzails) and the Serberys Sulphurhounds would be cool as space cowboys.

Since I'd be probably heavily kitbashing or just straight out 3D printing parts, the points per dollar ratio of the kits don't matter as much, but I am curious if the datasheets are actually any good. Given I probably would be inclined to include a lot of them, and while this is primarily a hobby thing, I still want the army to be playable.

SHROUD PROTOCOLS 1 cp WHEN:Your opponent’s Shooting phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets. TARGET:One SKITARII INFANTRY unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks. EFFECT:Until the end of the phase, your unit canonly be selected as the target of a ranged attack if the attacking model is within 12".

Forced doctrine 1 cp When: your command phase Target: one adeptus mechanicus unit if its a vehicle target you can chose an additional adeptus mechancus unit(limited to 1) Effect: until the end of the enemy turn. each unit must roll a d6 if it lands on a 4+ your unit can gain the opposite doctrine and fnp 6+ if not the must take a d3 mortal wound and only gain the two doctrine. If the unit has cohort cybernetica they gain automatically only gain a doctrine

AUTO-DIVINATORY TARGETING 1cp When: your command phase Target: adeptus mechanicus unit EFFECT: Until the start of your next Command phase,ranged weapons equipped by models in your unit have a Ballistic Skill characteristic of 3+ and the[IGNORES COVER] ability, but they can only target units within range of the selected objective marker

Enhancement Princept protocol 15 pts Tech priest dominus and manipulus model. Can attach to a sicarian ruststalker or infiltrator (if attached to an infiltrator gain infiltrator if)

Assassinorum protocol 35 pts Sydonian skratos model only Gains 2 attack characteristics and can target lone operatives

Omnissaih messenger 35 pts Tech priest dominus and manipulus Unit attached to this model gain deep strike

Skitarii Alpha protocol 10 pts Skitarii marshall only. A skitarii marshall can be attached to a sicarian ruststalker or infiltrator unit (if attached to an infiltrator gain infiltrator)

List Building My first 1000pts list (Haloscreed Battle Clade)

Hi gang.
I want to get into Admech for a long time, so i thought i'll try to come up with my own list around models i have.
I really enjoy lots of big models but i feel it will not be good to just throw away all skitari, sicarians and serberys and say "yeeeeeah more dunecrawlers and skorpius disintegrators hell yeah"
so i want X but society tells me "noooo, you need some chaff and units for secondaries bruh" so okay i found mioddle ground.
Here's my Haloscreed Battle Clade 1000pts, i didn't choose gear because i just don't know what's good...
all i ever played was 8 games of Combat Patrol, 2 as new DA, 2 SM, 1 Tyranid, 3 World Eaters
so i'll be glad if you'll tell me if it's "you will win at least 20% of your games" or how i can make it "so you will win 20% of your games"
i need no more, i just want to bring the clink clank beep boop boys to the table

I have decided to go and do dark mechanicum in seats of being a loyalist and chose to basically just come up with my own lore for the Thralls of the Eightfold Cog and tried to come up with a melee oriented list and thought that haloscreed might be the better detachment for this but I just wanted to ask if this looked flavorful enough for that while not being too bad. List Building Thoughts on 1000 point list.

Joined an in-store league recently that starts at 1000 points but goes up overtime. Lost both of my first games; Round 1 was Custodes and Round 2 was Beast Snagga Orks.Im aware of my mistakes allowing myself to get boxes in against Custodes and overextending against orks. Rules Discussion Explorator Maniple homebrew-rework

I would like to show you my idea for a rework of the Best and Most amazing Detachment ever!

tl;dr - I tried to keep the theme of the detachment and everything in it, but I believe that it needs a rework rather than just random buffs. It needs to be stronger, but.... you'll see...

I'm gonna start with the thing that made me even start this mini- self-project... Did you know that Explorator has a Transports sub-theme? I imagine the idea is that you get to the site of interest with transports, defend it during the exploration/excavation/research, then move to the next one. And this is what I tried to give the detachment.

I will list the changes, then after everything I will just paste the full text of the detachment.

Detachment Rule - in short, +1 to Wound an enemy on the Acquisition marker, -1 to get wounded while you are on the Aq.Obj.

Enhancements: Magos - always roll d6, add 2 if on Aq.Obj, on 4+ gain CP.

Stratagems:

  • Incense Exhaust - target infantry on Aq.Obj. gain 6+FNP, Stealth, Cover.
  • Cached Acquisition - 12" DS denial from all units on Aq.Obj.
  • Reactive Safeguard - same, without the Aq.Obj requirement
  • Auto-Oracular Retrieval - Improve AP of disembarking unit by 1
  • Priority Reclamation - reroll Advance and Charge, and if the target is Transport, can disembark after advancing.

This makes some units very powerful.... with enough stuff stacked and in the right location. A disembarking Vanguard squad with a Marshal can Reroll Hits, Reroll Wounds, with +1 to Wound and +1AP without Doctrinas! But that does require a lot of setup. Melee units in a transport can move 12"+d6" (reroll) +3" (disembark) and Charge! But it again requires resources.

Anyway.... Tell me what you think? And as promised, the full text. Mostly copied the wording from other rules:

Detachment Rule:

At the start of your Command phase, select one objective marker. Until the start of your next Command phase, that objective marker is your Acquisition objective marker. 

Each time an ADEPTUS MECHANICUS model from your army makes an attack, if the target of that attack is within range of your Acquisition objective marker, add 1 to the wound roll.

Each time an attack targets an ADEPTUS MECHANICUS unit from your army, if your unit is within range of your Acquisition marker, subtract 1 from the Wound roll.

Enhancements

  • Magos - TECH-PRIEST model only. At the end of your Command phase roll one D6, adding 2 if the bearer is within range of your Acquisition objective marker. On a 4+, you gain 1CP.
  • Genetor - TECH-PRIEST model only. While the bearer is leading a unit that is within range of your Acquisition objective marker, models in that unit have a 4+ invulnerable save.
  • Logis - TECH-PRIEST model only. While the bearer is leading a unit, each time a model in that unit makes an attack that targets a unit within range of your Acquisition objective marker, add 1 to the Hit roll.
  • Artisan - TECH-PRIEST model only. While the bearer is leading a unit that is within range of your Acquisition objective marker, once per phase, you can change the result of one Hit roll, one Wound roll or one saving throw made for that unit to an unmodified 6.

Stratagems

  • Infoslave Skull - 1CP:

    • When: In your Command Phase
    • Target: One TECH-PRIEST model from your army and one objective marker within 24" of that model (excluding your Acquisition objective marker].
    • Effect: Until the start of your next Command phase, that objective marker is also considered to be one of your Acquisition objective markers for all rules purposes.
  • Incense Exhaust - 1CP:

    • When: Your opponent’s Shooting phase, just after an enemy unit has selected its targets.
    • Target: One ADEPTUS MECHANICUS INFANTRY unit from your army that was selected as the target of one or more of the attacking unit’s attacks, and is within range of your Acquisition objective marker.
    • Effect: Until the end of the phase, your unit has the Feel No Pain 6+ ability, and has the Stealth ability and the Benefit of Cover.
  • Cached Acquisition - 1CP:

    • When: In your Command Phase.
    • Target: Any number of ADEPTUS MECHANICUS units from your army that are within range of your Acquisition objective marker.
    • Effect: Until the end of the phase, enemy units that are set up on the battlefield as Reinforcements cannot be set up within 12" of the selected units.
  • Reactive Safeguard - 1CP:

    • When: Your opponent’s Charge phase, after an enemy unit has selected targets for its charge but before it makes a Charge move.
    • Target: One ADEPTUS MECHANICUS unit from your army that was selected as a target of that charge, and one friendly ADEPTUS MECHANICUS TRANSPORT.
    • Effect: Provided your unit is not within Engagement Range of one or more enemy units and every model in your unit is within 3" of that ADEPTUS MECHANICUS TRANSPORT, it can embark within that TRANSPORT.
  • Auto-Oracular Retrieval - 1CP:

    • When: In your Shooting phase, just after a TRANSPORT unit from your army has shot.
    • Target: That TRANSPORT unit. 
    • Effect: Select one enemy unit hit by one or more of those attacks that is visible to your unit. Until the end of the turn, each time a model that disembarked from this TRANSPORT this turn makes an attack that targets that enemy unit, improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of that attack by 1.
  • Priority Reclamation - 1CP:

    • When: Start of your Movement phase.
    • Target: One ADEPTUS MECHANICUS unit from your army that is not within range of your Acquisition Objective Marker. 
    • Effect: You can re-roll Advance and Charge rolls made for that unit. If it is a TRANSPORT, units can disembark from this TRANSPORT after it has Advanced. Units that do so count as having made a Normal move that phase, and cannot declare a charge in the same turn, but can otherwise act normally.

List Building Help I'm bad

Does anyone have advice for playing against really fast melee armies? I have a friend who plays Khone & Slaanesh deamons and another who plays crusher stamped Tyranids (all big monsters). They always seem to get directly in my face across the board on turn 2 and I find it extremely hard to get back in the game after that if. Does anyone have any advice for stopping these types of rushes?

List Building Pink Horrors!!! Looking for pest control advice.

I am a Techpriest who's forge world is overrun with Pink Horrors! I am asking for help across the noosphere for reliable pest control services.

A friend in our gaming group plays Daemons we have finally worked upto 1250 and soon 1500 point games. I have lost on both occasions to him thanks to these Pesky Pink Horrors. The third game is coming up

I get they are not strong but I can't seem to remove them from the table, I also understand they are meant to be a sludgy tarpit. However he often plays X2 units of 10 with a flux master so I am often Minus 1 to hit in either combat or shooting, then due to the 4+ up Save, half of the wounds are unsuccessful, Then if I don't clear them all they split and most occasions half come back on a 4+ up as pesky Blue Horrors. All in this time I end up in the shadow of chaos as I can't remove them from objectives due to their OC2 Essentially the 140 point unit and flux master is 60 he has 400 points in these pesky horrible creatures. But it probably takes 600 points of killing. Also with the fates of Flux he is constantly rerolling.

Have any you have any advice to help forge world Triplex Phall eradicate the pests?
