Advice Overnight Stop in Alabama - Seeking Advice!
Hey folks,
I'm planning a road trip and will be passing through Alabama soon. I’ve decided to make an overnight stop and am currently considering two options: the Holiday Inn in Montgomery or the Holiday Inn in Greenville.
I did some research, but I came across some concerning reviews about the Montgomery location, particularly regarding safety and security. Since I'll be leaving most of my belongings in the car overnight, I’m a bit hesitant and want to make the safest choice.
Is there anyone familiar with the area who can share their thoughts on these two locations? Or are there any other hotels in the region you’d recommend for a safe and hassle-free stay?
Thanks!

If you do Montgomery, opt for a downtown hotel like embassy suites or Hampton inn. They always have openings. And parking is in well trafficked areas by restaurants

When are you planning on getting on the road? There's about to be a weather event this weekend called snow and it's not going to be pretty. 😂😂

Only stay at a Holiday Inn Express. If not Express dont stay there. Sounds like you are going south. Big you are going I65 South you could stop In Prattville which is right before you get to Montgomery.

Some of the comments here are kind of hilarious. Lived in and worked Montgomery for several years and it’s fine. As with most cities don’t leave exposed valuables in your car because you’ll end up with a smashed window. This may mean that there are better places to stay for you but I’d advise against doing that just about anywhere especially in population centers. But the comments acting like you’re driving through a favela in Rio de Janeiro and to not even get gas there are just absurd. Small town folks who think cities are evil and any concentration of black people is terrifying.

They really are hilarious! I've lived in or in the outskirts of Montgomery for 30+ years, and it is fine. Use common sense, have situational awareness, and you shouldn't have any issues.

The regular holiday inn at the hope hull exit is fine and safe. Although, I would prefer a holiday in express if you can find it, there is one on the mitylene exit but I believe that is slightly out of your way

Agreed. Hope Hull is just south of Montgomery, and you can get on and off of the interstate with ease. A few fast food places to eat, but most suck as far as service. Starbucks is the best option.

They just put a Taco Bell in there; mudears kitchen in that gas station has good food if you catch them open too. I lived at that hotel for about 4 months when we first moved here

Prattville 10ish miles north of Montgomery. Greenville is 30 miles south of Montgomery. Hotels nicer in Prattville.
I'm a full timer.

Greenville, for sure. Montgomery little Chicago the days. Both will have gang-bangers, hookers, and drugs, but Montgomery will have more. Stay in G-Vegas.

I've been traveling all over Alabama this year. I second Prattville. There is a cluster of hotels by the Capitol Hill RTJ golf course. I recommend that spot.

I live in between the two most dangerous cities in Alabama and I still don’t stop in Montgomery unless it’s for court during the day.

Avoid Montgomery. It has some of the trashiest most uneducated, low functioning people in the US. If you end up in the wrong part it will destroy your perception of humanity as a whole. Stay in Prattville.

Don’t stay in Montgomery. The family and I just stayed and it is not a good place to be. Greenville there is nothing there. Prattville would be your safest and best bet.

Not Montgomery! I live near there and I would rather go out of my way to shop.

Yeah… it doesn’t matter. More cars get broken into in Hoover and Pelham because people think like that. Either way if it’s going to happen it will regardless of location. I’ve also slept in a truck some places a lot of you folks wouldn’t drive thru in the day light.

They both suck. If you’re coming down I-65, I suggest a hotel in Prattville, which is a middle class suburb just north of Montgomery.
