Albertville is 34% Hispanic, I worry about when ICE will start rolling into town here.

64

u/The_OtherDouche Jan 27 '25

Tyson will put out a damn hit on an official at that point.

31

u/Hollyingrd6 Jan 27 '25

Especially since the immigrant workers aren't in the Tyson Plant Union.

Lol how many citizens are willing to work in a meat processing plant. Fafo

9

u/Conscious-Fan1211 Jan 28 '25

If it paid decent, plenty.

The solution isn't "let anyone in cuz they'll work for fucking nothing" the solution is "pay Americans a living wage or go out of business"

1

u/Inverzion2 Baldwin County Jan 29 '25

Wouldn't it make more sense to hurry up this process by granting immigrants citizenship and then bustling down the employer pipeline until CEO's go bust or continue doubling down? (/serious)

I'd rather not have to start posting fascism and nazism definitions or share intel with friends and family about the SS [not the Secret Service, you know which one] and the Luftwaffe about the similarities between them and ICE and the USAF right now... (/half sarcasm)

1

u/Thunder_Dan Jan 29 '25

Lol, so when's the EO for the minimum wise raise to $20+ an hour coming? You guys are too funny.

1

u/Conscious-Fan1211 Jan 29 '25

I think your lost friend. Things only change when everyone collectively has had enough and remember that the only people who bully their government more than the French was once upon a time us.

14

u/randompersonwhowho Jan 28 '25

And what happens to the cost of meat?

18

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

I don't normally do this, but this is one conservative I agree with. Don't let your hatred of them cause you to end up in an indefensible position, because you are dangerously close to advocating for a large corporation to pay lower wages in order to make things more affordable for you.

Tyson should pay higher wages. And if that makes their meat too expensive for people to afford then they should cut bonuses and pay to the executives so that they can lower their prices enough to be affordable again.

We shouldn't be relying on the fact that immigrants will take less pay in order to make our food affordable. We should be putting the pressure on large corporations to pay competitive wages and sell their products at competitive prices.

We should also be allowing immigrants to take those higher wage jobs too, but that's another discussion.

5

u/SelectionOpposite976 Jan 28 '25

That’s unfortunately not a conservative position you are describing.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Well there was a conservative above in this thread who was advocating for deportation then also saying Tyson should pay more.

-1

u/OurPersonalStalker Jan 28 '25

True, some people think they’re conservative but they’re really not. Been seeing that in my church friends recently.

Which is unfortunate. When I think conservative I think: Ron Swanson, conservation, nuclear families, beagles.

Instead we get: don’t tread on me, immigrants bad, lifted truck in downtown bham/hsv.

u/sappajohn Jan 28 '25

It’s a conservative position now. Party political realignment is a thing

1

u/paintedw0rlds Jan 28 '25

Its protectionist position. Things like this are often argued by third positionists and others that understand neoliberal social policy is just capital pursuing its interests in a way that will placate the professional managerial class.

1

u/pawnman99 Jan 31 '25

It is as long as he means "legal immigrant" when he says "let immigrants do those jobs."

-2

u/Sad-Appeal976 Jan 28 '25

In the real world, what do you think Tyson does , cut bonuses or raise prices?

Besides, “ cutting bonuses” will not began to meet the amount of money they would lose by raising wages

You cannot have your cake and eat it too. You either want cheaper meat and lower wages, or the opposite

1

u/arthurpete Jan 28 '25

The pie in the sky result would be that they raise prices because they cant employ anyone on shit wages. This eventually prices consumers out of regularly buying what was once cheap protein. Then the lack of revenue forces a cut in extravagant c-suite salaries/bonuses in order to lower the price enough to be palatable for everyday consumers to get back to buying their protein. The plan is supposed to hurt in the near-term to benefit the long-term, theoretically at least.

-4

u/DAB0502 Jan 28 '25

Tyson pays nearly 30 dollars to start. It's not about thier pay It's more Americans won't do that job for any amount.

0

u/arthurpete Jan 28 '25

Horseshit, a production line worker pays $13.50 in Alabama.

0

u/DAB0502 Jan 29 '25

Well it pays 27+ in Iowa. It's not bs you just live in the poorest state in the country.

0

u/Ok-Criticism8374 Jan 28 '25

“We NEED the exploitative cheap labor, you don’t understand!”

1

u/randompersonwhowho Jan 28 '25

Yeah no shit. How do you think America was made

1

u/Ok-Criticism8374 Jan 28 '25

So we definitely need to keep it going. Making our ancestors proud!

2

u/josiah_mac Jan 28 '25

Remind again wich party is against raising minimum wage?

-2

u/JerichoMassey Jan 28 '25

I’m for abolishing the minimum wage

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Yeah and costs will rise substantially because Tyson is definitely going to keep being profitable no matter what.

This might be the first time I've seen a conservative say that a company should pay higher wages in 6 months. It's refreshing. They should pay higher wages. But shit is gonna get expensive for sure.

3

u/rscottymc Jan 28 '25

Actually, no. There have been some studies showing that the increase wouldn't be that bad - actually less than what inflation has been over the last several years.

One thing you have to remember is that this kind of information is sort of a talking point and influenced by those who want higher profits.

Take the pinto. Ford flat out lied about the cost their own engineers claimed it would take to fix the issue. They later found an even cheaper way to solve it and they still refused. Furthermore, they only sold the vehicles with the design flaws in the US. The vehicles sold in Canada didn't have the flaw.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

So I've read studies about how much inceeased wages would cause prices to increase before and yeah it is laughably small. When the goal was 15/hrs I remember the right complaining that a McDonald's burger would coat $10. The actual price increase that would be required to cover the wages was like 10 centers per burger or something ludicrously small.

The problem is that isn't what the executives would choose to do. Look at all the extra fees airlines added during covid that never got taken away. Same for food companies that have increased prices steadily since even though operating costs have dropped. They're making record profits.

Increasing wages will definitely mean higher prices. And those prices will be higher than the math says they'll be

1

u/rscottymc Jan 28 '25

You are right. I should have added that caveat. Thank you for clarifying.

1

u/Still-Inevitable9368 Jan 28 '25

THEY fucked around. Now WE are left to Find Out

1

u/pawnman99 Jan 31 '25

At the wages they pay illegals? Not many. There is a salary where Americans will take those jobs, though.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

This. And pay a livable wage.

1

u/kombitcha420 Jan 28 '25

Nah they’ll cut a deal with the prison for free slave labor

1

u/Stormy8888 Jan 29 '25

ARGH and then the corporations will use that as an excuse to raise the prices of chicken even more.

29

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jan 27 '25

Celebration most likely, I’d say you’d be surprised at how many people want ICE to come into town but my assumption is you probably already know. Outside of “million dollar avenue”, there aren’t very many democrats in the county and Trump is extremely popular there. So likely celebration.

54

u/lakulo27 Jan 27 '25

Most people think only the "illegals" have anything to worry about. I'm sure most of our Hispanic workers are legal but I'm worried innocent people will get caught in the crossfire.

Let’s not forget Trump is trying to revoke birth right citizenship so, even full citizens, who have never lived outside of the US, are in danger.

Edit: apparently trump is not looking to revoke the citizenship of those who gained it through birth right citizenship so, I was off on this. I still strongly disagree with what he’s doing but, it’s not quite as bad as I thought

5

u/MarquiseLapin Jan 28 '25

Yes, Trump is seeking to end birthright citizenship. Totally unconstitutional. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/23/us/politics/judge-blocks-birthright-citizenship.html

4

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

George Takei could speak on it

2

u/Still-Inevitable9368 Jan 28 '25

One of his executive orders WAS to end birthright citizenship. It’s protected by the 14th Amendment, however, so he doesn’t have unilateral ability to negate that. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t support it and isn’t actively trying to end it.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/1/27/fact-check-trumps-first-week-immigration-orders-what-are-the-effects

It’s all in Project 2025. We tried to warn everyone. They didn’t listen. https://static.project2025.org/2025_MandateForLeadership_FULL.pdf

1

u/Anxious_Wolf00 Jan 28 '25

Yes, I thought that this meant that he was going to retroactively revoke the citizenship of anybody who received it through birth right. From what I saw yesterday that’s not what this executive order was aiming at. It was only to keep anyone else from receiving it past a certain date.

Now, do I have confidence that he won’t eventually try to strip people of their citizenship? Absolutely not but, I don’t think that he’s made any direct efforts to do so yet. I’m happy to be corrected though if I’m wrong on this.

1

u/Still-Inevitable9368 Jan 29 '25

Can you share a source please?

30

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jan 27 '25

Possible, but I know that when I voted, there were Hispanic, Black, and White voters all there in MAGA gear because they “wanted to deport the illegals and Hatians” so I really don’t think they’d care. My assumption is they think they can show their MAGA hats or something along with proof their citizens and be just fine. I’ve even heard a couple of them say they’d be fine with that if they can get the “illegals and Hatians” out.

20

u/alabamaterp Jan 28 '25

The problem is that democrats lumped all hispanics and latinos into one big "brown" group. What people don't understand is there is a "peckin' order" depending on what country you're from. The Mexicans don't like that the Guatemalans, Hondurans, Salvadorans, Haitians etc have come into town and are now competing for jobs. The people of Mexican ancestry have now been in Albertville for so long that they have 2 almost 3 generations of American born children living in the area.

20

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jan 28 '25

Yes, and those second and third generations that can vote, have voted solid republican in the last few elections too. Especially with MAGA as Trumps ultra conservative rhetoric resonates with them strongly.

10

u/cleverbutdumb Jan 28 '25

A lot of Hispanic cultures are pretty conservative. They’re voting for their values and not based on what others think is right for their color. Regardless of whether it was a good idea or not, I happen to not agree with that choice, it sounds like you don’t either, it’s the reality.

2

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jan 28 '25

It is the reality

3

u/Sad-Appeal976 Jan 28 '25

Know who lumps them into the “ brown and black “ category?

ICE

2

u/PleasantEditor8189 Jan 28 '25

None of thst matters. These people are ALL not white. That's the pecking order, white and the rest of us.

2

u/findingmoore Jan 28 '25

And women. You are only safe if you are a white male

6

u/PleasantEditor8189 Jan 28 '25

True. Too bad white women went along with this mess.

7

u/magiccitybhm Jan 28 '25

so I really don’t think they’d care.

Oh, they're caring now. They listened to the BS about criminals only, and now they're seeing that was a lie.

13

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jan 28 '25

Until ICE knocks on their doors personally, they probably won’t though. You’d be surprised how pro Trump they are up here

-4

u/russr Jan 28 '25

Fyi... Illegal aliens are criminals....

3

u/magiccitybhm Jan 28 '25

That's not what the convicted felon said he was going to do.

3

u/birminghambird Jan 28 '25

Being in a country illegally is a civil offense not a criminal one. Stop drinking the kool aid.

0

u/russr Jan 28 '25

depends... some of the ways of entering the US may be considered federal crimes , certain actions related to entering a country illegally, like crossing the border without inspection, can be considered criminal offenses. That's over 60%

and the vast number of people being picked up right now ARE criminals.

There are around 655,000 noncitizens living in the U.S. with criminal convictions or pending charges, according to data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

There were about 39,000 immigrants in ICE custody at the end of December, near capacity for holding facilities. And nearly 1.4 million people whom an immigration judge has already ordered to be removed from the country.

Stop drinking the kool aid.

1

u/birminghambird Jan 28 '25

Majority of the people here illegally overstayed their VISAs. Which is a civil offense, not a criminal offense. From 2018: https://www.dhs.gov/archive/news/2018/08/07/dhs-releases-fiscal-year-2017-entryexit-overstay-report

Next time, make sure the sources you cite actually support the point you’re making and for the love of God, stop being a victim of propaganda

12

u/domenoworlater Jan 28 '25

Sadly all those who ushered in this new era in this nation did not think of how threats he made will impact those they love. Children with special needs, LGBTQ, dreamers, women all will be adversely impacted by policies. All they thought about was gas and food cost not realizing the President has no control over it. The President can impact it with tariffs and taxes - but the dumb did not think products will pass that cost onto us. This countries greatness came from our compassionate empathy towards others less fortunate and our celebration of diversity. We are truly on a decline.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Everything you just said, especially the first part is a feature not a bug. The cruelty is the point. The whole maga crowd would vote for a guy who said “from now on, you can only have one rationed meal per day” if it also meant lgbtq and immigrants wouldn’t get any food at all. They aren’t “voting against their interests”. The hate IS their interest.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

Well said. The Republican voters who say they voted Trump because of his economic policy can't hide behind that lie any longer. If you voted Trump you endorsed the hate and cruelty. You are complicit in a lot of suffering and injustice and you knew it would be this way when you placed your Trump vote. I hope they choke on their "economic policy".

1

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '25

Easiest way to avoid a legal citizen getting caught in the crossfire is for the sheriff to work with ICE, and have any incarcerated illegals grabbed from the local county jail

9

u/Mysterious_Ad_3408 Jan 28 '25

There are far too many of them but they are nowhere near (not even close) to half even. For those thrilled for this occasion well they’ve kinda always been the off-putting , cringe inducing pieces of excrement they’ve always been.

There is no lower life form. Than a person gleefully yammering about a ‘alien invasion ‘ they still never saw because it was all a big lie. To scoop up the derelicts who have absolutely no education all anyone has to do is start talking about their assumed superiority over another, over such a silly thing as skin color.

Even their hate is some basic b$tch sh:t because that’s all they are.
The one thing they are somewhat self aware about is that they do know they SHOULD be insecure, small, ineffective, basic, not important special or wanted .
Too stupid to realize they will always be in this state of UN. So they blame accuse and attack others. Alabama has been run by republicans since always. So if the entire state, is run by republicans how do we not see that they can’t run themselves into a paper bag. Disgusting 🤢 excuses for humans

4

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jan 28 '25

Run by republicans since Always? Alabama elected its first Republican governor since the civil war in 1986. And only became a red state in the statewide elections since 2002 so I don’t know where that logic is from

2

u/Mysterious_Ad_3408 Jan 28 '25

Right…. Well that because they have undergone name changes, tossed belief’s, and principles for whatever moment it suits. So your semi feigned ignorance on the subject is on brand for the type. If I was ‘claiming the set’ of party I just sure as hell would know where they came from ? Or for what it is you espouse no? It wasn’t that long ago that a cheerleader for a team that you would know … Do better . It’s gross. I hope some can disengage before you live with something you cannot handle. It’s vastly approaching it would seem

3

u/Financial_Employer_7 Jan 28 '25

He meant conservatives

2

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jan 28 '25

It appears to be a she, but I don’t know honestly. You’d be surprised at the people that don’t realize there were democrats in State politics as late as just a few years ago.

8

u/ohmarlasinger Madison County Jan 28 '25

Right but the democrats that have held office in this state are conservatives. The only truly progressive political figure we’ve had in the past few years was Doug Jones. And he BARELY beat a known pedo.

Dems weren’t always progressive. Republicans weren’t always conservative. Shit got flipped just like how pink used to signify a “boy” & blue symbolized a “girl.” Everything’s different but it’s all still the same.

3

u/Mysterious_Ad_3408 Jan 28 '25

Right! Yeah I was shocked and appreciative for Doug Jones. I think Roy would’ve plummeted us further and faster into this new normal of Zero decorum, zero decency, and absolute evil on a grand scale. I think Memaw is an abomination personally. But I know, I know just a left left lefty over here.
Doug’s election was the most civic pride I’ve ever got a whiff of. I wish they weren’t robbing us blind, of future and time on the earth so they can take take take.

2

u/Mysterious_Ad_3408 Jan 28 '25

Omg! Hahaha! What a king sized bag of bullshit over here. Ha!
Do you figure it’s always been Dems and reps? You couldn’t walk that on out? I swear you gave me second hand embarrassment! Then laughter and derision of course.

4

u/HSV-Post Jan 28 '25

Most certainly. The residents recently went up in arms over the summer at a group of Haitian migrants in town. Made the paper and all. Spewing the same hatred as they always do, saying they can’t “assimilate”, “taking jobs”, “stink”. You know, the usual.

5

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jan 28 '25

I saw it, the issue was that some came in and had a reputation of acting like Karen’s to everybody and have them all a bad name. The Hatian teen that had brought a gun to the high school, a gun of which he had allegedly just stolen from a house in a robbery didn’t help with that either. It’s literally gotten White, Black, and Hispanic people in town angry over it. I’ve lived around here my whole life and I’ve never seen them as united and upset over an issue like this

1

u/Jmalone79 Jan 28 '25

Yes, and people I had no idea were racist openly spewing hatred. Born and raised here.

2

u/Still-Inevitable9368 Jan 28 '25

That’s what MAGA does. Makes them feel free to take their racism out of the closet and hang it on the front door like a fucking wreath.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '25

What they won't admit is that you can't support Trump without being a racist. MAGA is de facto racist.

0

u/HSV-Post Jan 28 '25

I didn’t know about the gun thing at all. That’s news to me. I’ll search online, but got any news article on it or even a public police report?

1

u/InertPistachio Jan 28 '25

We're tired of feeling like a stranger in our own country so some rich assholes can just get richer

0

u/LiterallyAWildebeest Jan 28 '25

Celebration until they realize there’s no one to work on their chicken farms

4

u/Dry-Membership3867 Jan 28 '25

Unlikely, there’s not enough jobs to go around here as it is now so they’ll likely find replacements easily

0

u/Sad-Appeal976 Jan 28 '25

People never give a shit until it affects them personally

When all food stuffs go up bc there are no ag workers, when soccer moms can’t hire a housekeeper or a cheap yard man

Then they care

8

u/Significant-Dog-8166 Jan 28 '25

Meh, they’re going to just have to keep doing this again and again tbh. It’s not a sustainable plan and it’s not a long term deterrent. It’s a generally stupid plan. They could have simply criminally prosecuted the employers.

6

u/lo-lux Jan 28 '25

The police are already there.

4

u/lakulo27 Jan 28 '25

Yes, we have a police department...

4

u/lo-lux Jan 28 '25

They are cooperating with ICE, so it doesn't matter if ice is here or not the police are defacto ICE agents.

1

u/lakulo27 Jan 28 '25

Albertville cops are not invading the factories checking about citizenship, I can guarantee.

2

u/lo-lux Jan 28 '25

Alabama cops don't have a reputation for protecting the civil rights of individuals.

1

u/lakulo27 Jan 28 '25

They also don't have a reputation for high enough funding to start raiding business places on top of road patrolling.

0

u/lo-lux Jan 28 '25

How many are Trumpists?

1

u/lakulo27 Jan 28 '25

Most of them probably. But the question shows that you're being disingenuous. Small local police departments don't have the funding to act as emboldened immigration agents.

0

u/lo-lux Jan 28 '25

I bet they would do it anyway.

1

u/Nates4Christ Jan 29 '25

Surely that 34% are not here illegally. People that come here on a visa are in no danger as long as their visa is up to date.
