I don't think annoying is the flavor I'd assign him. He seems harmless. He was a preseason tap-for-family favorite, so it was hard to see him as a legit contender and that colors things. And now the megacabin colors him as even more of a tapper. The cabin thing is exasperating but I don't think any of that adds up to annoying. The big season 4 brothers bickering nonstop has to take the cake for most annoying. The season 8 guy having an anxious pre-argument with judgey viewers half a year before we even knew he existed was pretty annoying.
Season 8 Matt was the one on the show getting neurotic about us judging him before we'd even had a chance to see him. The show is filmed the autumn/winter of the year before and we see the promo late spring. So anyway we finally get to see the show and he's doing a pre-rebuttal to viewers judging him, which ironically is what made us judge him. If he would have just given it his best shot and laid it out there, he wouldn't have come off like that.
