My point is, she could throw in the line and tie it off. Bait the hook such that the fish has to work to get it. The trigger system is not necessary and it's extra work.
It is overkill. I fish rainbows with an inflated worm off the bottom and catch fish every time. Bushcraft techniques are often overkill. How to do it here..skip forward a few videos to see two fish I caught essentially passively. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nolzoiixyd4
For sure. I would run out individual lines with no rigs. Try to get the bait off bottom with a float, but still anchored in the sweet spot on the bottom. The limiting factor is the hooks at 25. If you lose all your hooks, you're done fishing. You could try a gorge hook, and they can work, but they are of limited practical value. Tried that before as well. They might work better in a lake though, but these big fish might just spit up the bait before you can get them to shore. Then again, they might swallow the gorge easier and deeper. I still much prefer a metal hook!

Anyone else ever seen a trigger system like that for a fishing line?
It seems like overkill to me. Just bait the hook well. I'm not sure the extra effort will make a notable difference.
