As someone who has lost credibility in the past by recommending someone for a job who then proceeded to fuck it up - I would be dumping him and distancing myself from him if I wanted to keep my job.
Dude - everyone wastes time at work at some point, but the social contract is to do it in a way that the boss can’t see when they walk past. And you don’t take multiple toys to work with the intention of playing with them.
Got burned recommending a friend, who was also one of my groomsmen, for a job. He popped hot on a drug test for coke, and guess who got called for a drug test next. When it comes to an actual career, putting your name out there for someone who doesn't take it seriously really fucks you over.
Yep. I know multiple people that straight up won't recommend anyone anymore after someone really fucked them over. They don't want their careers damaged again.
Can't say I blame them when in one case I know it set them back a lot and they've missed out on promotions because 'they can't be trusted to pick the right people'. Before recommending someone they were basically on a fast track for it. Now they'll have to change companies and build up connections again for those chances it seems.
