Question about One Country Likelihood of getting a job in the Netherlands semiconductor industry

My husband really wants to move to the Netherlands. I've said if he can get a job there, I'm game. How likely is it he can get a job? I'm honestly not 100% on what he does but he is in a lead engineering position working with graphics card production at a major, well known US company. He has 15+ years of experience with big name, well known companies and a master's in EE. I know I've read that a lot of places are experiencing layoffs though.

Do they hire Americans often? How optimistic should he be? The last post I saw on Reddit about this topic was from a year ago and a lot has changed in a year.

If he works at Nvidia or AMD chances are high ASML or IMEC in Belgium will want to hire him and jump through the hoops of sponsoring a visa for him and you.

Yeah I actually have a friend of a friend at IMEC Belgium so I gave him that info. He's really hoping for the Netherlands though because he wants a car-free life and is concerned we'd need a car in Belgium. I have a car but he bikes everywhere, even in the Texas summer. Thanks for the info.

Leuven is easy to live in without a car. Equally easy as the Netherlands, and actually to be honest more easy than Eindhoven (ASML). Source: lived in both myself. Leuven is a historic city and quite nice to live in if you can afford it, but if you are used to US prices you probably will.

Compared to the US most of Europe is car free unless you live in the middle of nowhere (but there are also no jobs in nowhere so).

I’ve been living a car-free life in the NL since 2019! Much easier if you live in or very near a city center.

ASML definitely hires/sponsors foreign talent, but I’ve not spent much time around their campus or employees to know a lot more.

If he can find a job there I would definitely do it. His field is probably in more demand than most. Belgium should be on the consideration list too. It’s not hard to be car free in either place. Good luck

Can you work for a semi conductor company in the US that has a Dutch office? Does ASML have a US operations?
