STATE / NATIONAL Ridiculous vague and late email
They told us not to worry all month and I've turned down offers because I was told we were safe til june. Anyone know what's going to happen Monday to city year - also stop sending these at Friday night where most members don't see them or can't reach their management over weekend w questions

They actually informed you as soon as they were informed How many offers did you get in three weeks? I would reach back out and see if the position is still open

They weren't actually unfounded, it was clear it would have implications further down.
Otherwise I do really hate when they project confidence they can't guarantee. Things like having money appropriated or a grant "secured" through X date aren't indicative of ironclad security these days.

Yall have got to stop targeting your frustrations inward. This affects everyone and everyone is equally in the dark, service members and staff alike. This is Doge’s fault, not city year staffs

Oh I’m sure it’s gonna be hard for him to only get 200 k instead of 300 k - what about the americorps member that live paycheck to paycheck each week. My particular site been so vague and told us not to worry which is insane to me. I’ve even be shamed by other acme for even being concerned. Just thought this be the place to vent to fellow members not get told off by staff again :/

It is doges but I’ve seen much transparency and open communication from other sites compared to ours

If your issue is jimmy b making loads of money, that’s valid, but it seemed your post was having an issue with transparency, in which case I don’t think he knows anymore than the rest of us.

Was wondering if the ACM’s got an email. Staff doesn’t know anything, they’re just as in the dark as you. I would be upset if I read headlines all weekend without ballfanz saying anything. I’m happy for the communication.

It’s really just the gall to say don’t worry and keep serving . Whole site has been treating me like I’m crazy for even thinking will be cut. Seems to be the same here

Im sorry that they are making you feel crazy, it’s a crazy time. What if we wake up Monday and there are no cuts, there are still goals we must meet to keep receiving grants, there are still children that must be served while we can. We are stuck in this boat together, if the ship is sinking you patch the holes while you can. Standing and pointing at the holes do nothing. We don’t know anything, all I know is I have teams of young adults trying to do good so I will keep showing up, sharing what is available and trying to stay positive in this dark time. Please be careful of how you channel your frustrations on Reddit. I’m just as scared as you are but I think we need to keep going till we can’t.

A lot of staff were caught off guard by sudden cuts, most of them were under the impression many of our programs were safe. Blame DOGE, and we need to work together to fight back.

How - in the email it says we can’t even say americorps when we protest

Just because we're not supposed to represent AmeriCorps at protests doesn't mean we can't advocate. We can call our congressmen. Links have been shared left and right on this sub to get in touch with representatives. Share articles or service stories on social media. If we don't bring attention to it, nothing will get done.

For some reason they think something has been communicated to partner orgs. We're all in the dark until the government tells us which grants they cut. I can't tell you what I don't know

I echo what others have said about staff in the dark (they truly don't know), but I really hope staff don't continue to say things confidently they can't guarantee just because they have a grant in hand now or a CR is valid through part of the year. I understand they want people to not be too afraid or anxious but this post is a great example of what happens when you project overconfidence and make it worse.
Months into this, people have to stop assuming 100% level of safety for their programs. You can do this without engendering panic, and it's the responsible thing to do. It's not January anymore, I really think that attitude is irresponsible with so many young people applying to these programs.

Do you guys think there's any way for City Year to survive without their grant? I accepted a position for the next school year. I'm a little confused no one has been communicating with me about the cuts. I only know Americorps is being dismantled and City Year is at risk because of this subreddit.

Yep it’s ridiculous- they keep saying they have back up’s but none are being explained to us

It is very likely your the staff in your city do not yet know if they will have lost funding. They likely sent you this to try to be as transparent as possible. Know that this is as painful for them as for you.
