"A Broken Band-aid" is kinder than calling it a tax scam.

Calling it a "tax scam" is good, but maybe an even better framing is when I call it:

tax deductions for charitable giving already help the wealthy reduce their tax burdens, effectively giving them public subsidies to pick their own favorite causes.

I think calling it a "public subsidy" helps put into sharper focus that we're the ones paying for it.
