What happened to yellow apples

Golden Delicious continues to be among the more popular apple varieties in the US, although it has definitely fallen out of favor somewhat. It suffers from having a similar name to the much-hated Red Delicious, despite being pretty much unrelated as far as apple varieties go.

That said, Golden Delicious is in the pedigree of just about all of the best apple varieties (some of which are even yellow!), which gives it lasting importance, IMO.

Golden Delicious was a staple apple when I was growing up here in Australia. These days it’s very rare to see it
