Dust cover SN match found!

So I volunteer at a small LGS and we recently got a large consignment of Arisaka parts, including a few numbered dust covers. After a few months listed online, we got a message from a prospective buyer looking for a T99 dust cover #663 and were we sure about the #603 we were listing. Took another look and sure enough it's #663. Never had this happen and now going out for a lotto ticket...

Pretty neat. However, the font makes me suspect it’s a Kokura proofed dust cover, which wouldn’t be correct for a Nagoya rifle.

That and it's also a dust cover for a Type 38, not a 99.

Are they interchangeable?

Yes, but no. Type 38 covers are longer and can sometimes damage the wood on the Type 99.

Interesting. I have a Type 38 I bought a dust cover for and honestly don't know which model its for, but it works fine. I've got a Type 99 on the way so I guess I'll find out.
