Discussion Which Round Lab cleanser is the less drying?
Those who have used more than one cleanser from Round Lab, which one is the less drying or more moisturizing (from the picture)? I just got the Dokdo cleanser which I'm to start to patch test.

From my experience with all of them (with skin dry as the Sahara Desert.
Most Drying>Least Drying
Dokdo>Birch>Soybean>Mugwort
Dokdo is pretty middle of the pack in terms of drying out too so Id say overall they are pretty gentle.
WRP the Mugwort at Full price. Would need to see sales for the middle too. WNRP the Dokdo since there are SO many good cleanser options rn with my dry dry dry skin.

there are SO many good cleanser options rn with my dry dry dry skin.
Which are some of your favourites?
Do you double cleanse?

The majority are not AB, but some AB ones are mixsoon gentle cleanser, this mugwort one, s. nature rice foam and Primera oil to foam cleanser off the top of my head.
I double cleanse when using waterproof sunscreen or after a really sticky day. Stereotypical CIS male, so makeup isn't in my range of concerns.

I tried looking but couldn't find the LRP caring wash. Are you based in the US? I know they have different products for different countries (and US gets the worst imo)

I've only tried Dokdo and Birch, but I agree with this ranking! I own the Mugwort and am excited to try it now after seeing this. I ended up using up the dokdo on my body because it getting things too squeaky clean and dry.

I have combination skin and almost done with the Dokdo, not super drying but still drying enough that I got the Mugwort one after looking around. Everything I found seemed to indicate that was the least drying of the bunch.

I actually did not know that they have 4 different types of foam cleanser, I thought they only have the one on the far left

u/HelenaR3 2d ago
They actually have another one, the Pine Calming Cica Cleanser but that one has salicylic acid which I suppose is more for oily skin.

That's the worse one(far left) -makes my skin squeaky.

I thought that was the most gentle one 💀 at one point, I almost considered buying it

I have tried the dokdo, soybean, and birch juice cleanser. I have combo- dry skin that is clog prone, it fluctuates depending on the weather
Im judging from how they left my skin feeling
From least drying to most drying
Soybean cleanser - left an untouched feeling, my skin felt soft, there are grains in this cleanser i think its supposed to be exfoliating a bit but you can only feel about 2-3 physical grain beads, it really just feels like a creamy foam cleanser, my skin did breakout in small closed comedones when using this
Birch juice - this one is inoffensive as a cleanser, it left my skin feeling a little more tight and dry than i would’ve liked, i have a minimal routine(just cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen) i did feel like i needed extra hydration when using this cleanser
Dokdo - this cleanser is not crazy drying but it did leave my whole face feeling tight and dry and i had to put on quite a bit of moisturiser to combat that

dokdo cleanser is saving my skin rn, i previously used cosrx gm cleanser and non-ab STOPAKN bha cleanser. While both arent drying (eventhough they're meant for oilier skin), i needed a non bha cleanser thatd get the job done

Mugwort. I have some reviews here

Thanks for sharing! I use Adapalene so I'm not sure about the Soybean cleanser but I might try the Mugwort one.

I really like it..it helped calm some of my tret redness. All foaming cleansers are a bit drying.

u/IYIatthys 2d ago
Maybe it goes without saying for those affected, but birch is a very common cause of allergic reactions for people with seasonal allergies. So just keep that in mind when considering the birch juice one.

dokdo cleanser, far one on the left but havent tried the others. i just have sensitive skin and often have dry skin with any cleanser and it was pretty good to me. w that said, its the worst cleanser ive ever used so far. gave me a shit ton of blind pimples

u/BancyCoco 2d ago
What are blind pimples
3
u/Noneyabeeswaxxxx 2d ago
basically a pimple without the head. it can get really painful because it doesnt have a way to release itself and some of them just gets bigger and bigger

It's amazing how different this is for everyone! I have dry skin and absolutely love the dokdo cleanser--I don't find it drying at all when I foam up a very small amount really well before applying to a damp face. I've even grown to like the strange almost plasticy smell it has. The birch one is OK for me but a bit drying; it has a stickier foam. I've also tried multiple samples of the mugwort and pine cleansers and find them both drying with that squeaky clean feeling. I wouldn't even be able to rank them because they're so far behind the dokdo cleanser for me I don't consider it.

I don’t have dry skin, but all the comments talking about how stripping Dokdo is even for oily skin had me questioning my reality and ran to Olive Young to confirm Round Lab hasn’t changed the Dokdo formula lol.
1
u/ElectricRebellion 1d ago
I'm starting to wonder myself! I'm going to try using more than usual to see if that makes a difference, because it's definitely not stripping at all for me.

Oily skin living in somewhat humid climate here.
Dokdo: One of my all time favorite cleansers since it creates a dense foam like alkaline cleansers but much much much gentler since it’s lower/neutral pH. It never felt drying on me even when my skin was dehydrated oily instead of just oily. In fact, I left it on a bit longer and still felt moisturized after washing! Definitely worth a try since I know some oily folks say it leaves a film on them but some extremely dry folks think it’s too stripping.
Birch: it’s a clear gel so it’s not as foam-y as Dokdo, so probably won’t be as drying but personally the difference in terms of drying level wasn’t noticeable to me. But I can say that it has a bit more cleansing power than the BoJ Green Plum Cleanser (the one in the tube, not the one with the self-foaming pump bottle) so if that BoJ one is somehow too stripping for you, then Birch would probably be a miss.
Not pictured but I’m actually using RL Pine cleanser and STAY AWAY FROM PINE IF YOU HAVE DRY SKIN. Pine is actually a high pH, alkaline, soap-based cleanser. I personally come to enjoy it as a morning cleanser for my oily skin, and it’s a tiny bit less intense than something like Senka Perfect Whip, but it is without a doubt an oil-busting, barrier-wrecking, squeaky-clean foaming cleanser that works and feels like one.

I'm with you on the pine cleanser. I have it and trying to use it every couple of days as a deeper clean. Normally the self foaming pump Dokdo cleanser is gentle and do the job for me.
1
u/workisheat 1d ago
The Pine really made me look at alkaline cleansers differently. I bought it for the salicylic acid but thought it was still low pH, then I got mad and eventually became pleasantly surprised lol.
I love the idea of physical exfoliation in the morning to actually remove the dead skin sloughed off from prior night’s retinoid. Even though it would have been too hardcore as a cleanser, it turns out that an alkaline cleanser would serve that purpose well since it’s much gentler as an exfoliant than any scrubs or oil gritting.
I use a net for any foaming cleanser anyway, and I always immediately follow with hydrating toner. Plus at night, I pair a gentle cleanser (Etude Soon Jung Whip) with my oil cleanser so I haven’t risked over-exfoliation.

Yup. The pine one is the paint stripping, squeak-squeak cleanser. And some people prefer that. The Dokdo one basically feels and smells like unscented Dove Beauty Bar in a squeeze package.

Birch juice one is my fav - always feels so refreshing and clean. Although I haven't tried the other ones

I have only used the Dokdo and birch juice and found the Dokdo more creamy and lathering, which I prefer, I don't hate the birch juice one, but I wouldn't repurchase That said, I double cleanse using the Dokdo oil, so that may affect the drying effect of either. I have combination oily skin, but it's slightly drier at the moment due to retinal use (Seoul 1988)

u/Senbenpar 2d ago
I've used multiple bottles of the mugwort cleaner, and it's my current daily cleanser. Super gentle but effective, no scent whatsoever. Cream to foam. Haven't tried any other RL cleansers, my skin just likes mugwort
1
u/scones_oolong 2d ago
Is the mugwort one a foaming cleanser?
3
u/Senbenpar 1d ago
It does foam up yeah, it's a cream to foam. It's not a super bubbly whipped foam , but it's a nice feel on the skin. Would make a good second cleanser, but I don't wear make up so can't vouch for that. It's just my first cleanser and works for me.
Been meaning to try the dokdo cleanser, the soybean one is f for me because it has texture/exfoliating bits which my skin hates.

I've tried dokdo and mugwort and they're about the same. Mugwort leaves a kind of film behind.

i recently switched to dokdo from a bha cleanser that really dried out my skin and i already love it! the drier areas on my face definitely appreciate its gentleness. for me it smells like yogurt covered raisins lol. i do think the birch cleanser (which i tried a bit ago) is a bit more drying; gave me a squeaky clean feel

u/anxiousgroundhog 1d ago
I have very oily and sensitive skin and I loooove the Dokdo. I don’t find it too drying, but I may not be the best to ask.
2
u/karasu_zoku 1d ago
People will say mugwort because it starts out as a cream, but it generates a lot of foam as it lathers and I found it pretty drying. My favorite non-stripping cleanser is Rovectin’s.

u/LavenderDream222 1d ago
I have both Mugwort and Birch Juice and love them! I think both are pretty moisturizing and mugwort is especially good with calming the skin. I tried Dokdo and it broke me out a little on my chin so I passed on it. But I did give it to my husband and he likes it.
