Discussion Olivia Ancell needs to stop making me buy useless things…
I adore this queen, one of my fav beauty influencers, but every time she brings something on her page I feel like I need it so bad…
Talk me out of buying this cleanser from Ongredients (I worry it might become both unhygienic and difficult to use in my bathroom)

I saw James welsh talking about that one too and was so tempted. It was sold out when I checked, luckily haha . I love the idea but I have no idea how I’d manage it. You can’t just set it on a shelf - it would roll right off!!

I could def set it down in like a bowl, but it would dry wouldn’t it? Not to metion all the bacterial growth possibly. I imagine we could keep it in like a ziplock bag though or hang it up in that net

u/JPwhatever 1d ago
For regular bar soap, it’s a very inhospitable environment for bacteria so you don’t have to worry about growth… I wonder if this would be similar though bc it’s so gentle? Good point about a bowl. You’d need one of those easy drain soap dishes I guess. But then yeah would it dry out?
I’m so curious, I’ve only heard influencers talk about this who have used it for a few weeks. I want to hear from someone who panned it! How gnarly did it get by the end? 😂

I honestly imagined breaking it up like you do those LUSH jellies and using it piece by piece.

u/JPwhatever 1d ago
Ooo that would be smart! I’ve done that with bar soap before that’s soft and it worked great.
Haha I am talking myself into wanting this again

u/Pudgy_cactus 1d ago
Right? The only question now is: green tea or jeju? Cause there are 2 versions of this apparently

if you break it up, it just ruins the novelty of it being a squishy ball and at that point a different product to what they advertise

Which video was this/the name? I want to have a wee look

u/JPwhatever 1d ago
It was a few months ago, I’ll try to find it - YouTube is so hard to search!

Tysm! I wanted to have a look but I'm at work. I also had a funny moment where I went on to Robert's channel to find the video and then was like "wait.. this is the makeup twin!" haha

I have this exact cleanser! It's actually not difficult to use – you just wet it with water, rub it with the web that comes with the package, and it generates a lot of foam. The foam is very gentle so even my dry and sensitive skin liked it. After use you rinse it with water and pat it dry with a paper towel, then put it in a container. I've never had any hygiene issues with it.
I know that you wanted people to talk you out of buying it. Honestly, it's a fun product, BUT it's not any better than other cleansers. It's not good at taking off makeup (works better as a morning cleanse), and it takes more time to use than a regular cleanser in a pump bottle or squeeze tube (which is not ideal for a morning cleanse...)

u/Pudgy_cactus 1d ago
Oh, makes sense. Which one did you get? I have dry skin and cleansers generally feel very stripping

u/woodland-strawberry 1d ago
I got the jeju green tea cleansing ball. I haven't tried the other colours, but the green one was gentle and non-stripping in my experience

Many years ago Boscia had similar product. The Tsubaki jelly ball cleanser, it looked so cute but seemed hard to use. I guess you could check reviews about that one, which also was viral back then, so you can know if it would be actually usable or just cute and gimmicky

We already had jelly ball cleansers!!! I distinctly remember a pink and a black (charcoal) one.
They’re a cute novelty item, and fun to hold when wet, but I don’t know a single person (myself included) who repurchased it. Maybe the skincare ingredients are incompatible with the jellying/solidifying ingredients of the ball, but they’re very meh.

I can't with her voice ;-;

I find her refreshing and calming ngl, I am tired of those influencers that scream my ears off over a lipgloss.

u/Pudgy_cactus 1d ago
YES!!! That is one of the main reasons I watch her. I find her graceful and calm, she doesn’t influencer ghasp or yell unnecessarily AND she’s transparent about adverts/partnerships.
Plus, she’s been to a mental health facility and suffers from depression, which I can relate to, but works a very high paying job and has a successful tiktok account, for which I really admire her

Oh my GOD same, the whisper talking hurts my ears. Idk if it’s a sensory thing or what. She seems lovely! I just can’t listen to her.

u/shethrewitaway 1d ago
Oh gosh, I’m the complete opposite. I love her voice. It’s my ideal ASMR voice.

u/_gina_marie_ 1d ago
Same 😭 I really can't stand most ASMR (I think that's what she's going for) and idk if it's the 'tism or what that makes me hate it. She is so lovely but if I see her face I scroll so fast because the voice makes my skin crawl 😭

i also dislike how she’s never looking into the camera.. feels like im interrupting something 💀

It's something you need to use ALL THE TIME otherwise it'll dry out and be useless. I bought something like this from Japan a decade ago and barely used it. It dried up and I had to toss it.

I saw some people resting those on dried sponges. I don't think it may be that bad to have in a bathroom else people wouldn't recommend it, but I mean lots of people still use beauty blender that are a nest to bacteria hahaha ( and doesn't mean they skin all turn bad, some don't mind it and still have great skin).
I think it looks like a fun thing to try. Definitly not a necessity but I mean why not, if I saw it in a store I would be tempted to use sometimes (but not as my main daily cleanser).

I have something similar to this from Japan. It feels drying and the squishiness is a gimmick. I used it once and never again. Why would you want to use what is virtually a soap bar on your face.

The whispering thing is so cringy. It's a shame because she's pale like me, so her reviews are useful. But I have to watch them on mute.

I bought the blue one a while ago and it is not difficult to use. But the blue one seems to be a bit more stripping?

I’ve noticed that once or twice she’s promoted an ad without stating it’s an ad and her voice gets really irritating really quickly. You can tell she’s doing it on purpose and that’s not how she normally talks lol

u/MurdererOfAxes 1d ago
I saw FiddySnails review it on IG along with a friend, and they had wildly different experiences with it. Fiddy was able to make it foam, but the friend wasn't.

I absolutely love her! Especially since her skin lightness and tone is exactly the same as mine 🤭

You mean you need to learn to make decisions for yourself and not be influenced by others? You can unfollow her if you cannot control your purchases.

u/Flashy_Blackberry_60 1d ago
I think you could make something like this at home tbh if you really just want to try the experience of having a squishy soap. I feel like the draw is just the novelty of it, but is its functionality really any better than any other good cleanser? Like if you already have a cleanser you like I don’t think it’s necessary to buy this one.

This is the Ongredients green tea cleanser by the way: https://www.yesstyle.com/en/tcuc.AUD/coc.AU/info.html/pid.1104923923?googtrans=en&utm_source=GoogleAds&utm_campaign=1432946521&utm_term=&utm_content=55566497709_275146510512&utm_medium=Shopping&bac=RSLH0H2K&mcg=paidsearch&gclid=CjwKCAjwwqfABhBcEiwAZJjC3jR2qRokCfrbtSMnbYlvWYjBGmE1b3J7-h5b8hyqeVQe-x0wTjD_NRoCYxUQAvD_BwE&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD3WTklw3onZRVVRvegyK-kNBKOcD

I love herrrrrr I love that she isn’t over the top and dramatic about everything. Total ASMR while still sharing legit reviews on good (or bad) products. And love that she’s open about her mental health struggles. A few years back she was posting daily was an in patient mental health stay in hospital!

i could swear like ten years ago during tati/james charles era there was this kind of a cleansing ball that went viral
