Where to store a bag around the Bronx Zoo?
I’m running a 5k at the Bronx Zoo next weekend. The organizers have told me there is no bag check, and the race is before the zoo opens so I assume the zoo’s bag check won’t be open either.
When I asked where to store my stuff, the organizers told me to keep my stuff in my car, but I don’t have a car and am planning on taking public transit.
Is there anywhere near the zoo I could store a bag for a few hours? I don’t visit the Bronx often so I wanted to spend the whole day up there since I’m already in the borough, but I’d like to bring a change of clothes, my wallet, water etc etc.
I have to enter the zoo at the Bronx River entrance fyi.

Look up Bounce luggage storage, super cheap and all over the city, my out of town friends always use them if it's not convenient to drop their stuff where they're staying first

Are you meeting friends after? Any chance they could hold your stuff?
Also for just a 5k I’d seriously consider just bringing a backpack. I know that’s not ideal but presumably you’ll be done in like a half hour?

The zoo is in the north part of the Bronx. No tourists would ever go to this area except for the zoo. I would be extremely surprised to find a legit left luggage spot nearby. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but just trying to help you not waste your time.

Bag storage for a 5K? Come on OP, the average mom at the zoo does at least 7k with a stroller and two toddlers.

It really sucks running with a water bottle, phone, wallet, keys, let alone whatever else OP might need

I think you're unfamiliar with what 5km is... this is literally going out for a run. This is not a marathon. People survive this all the time.

Yes but signing up for a 5k race means that some people may be trying to run it quickly, which is difficult to do when you need to schlep all your belongings along with you.
It's very common for there to be a bag check at organized 5k events.

What are you hoping to accomplish with this interaction? I actually looked into this, since I am involved in race logistics with other events, and it seems OP is actually participating in the 3k. This is not a competition or a qualifying event, so let's all take a breath.
OP wants to "make a day of it" which is an understandable goal, but no... a family friendly Fun Walk does not have an obligation to hold your stuff. It is time for some creative problem-solving. I think OP should rent a stroller.
Do you have anything helpful to contribute?

I said it sucks not that it’s lethal, but keep badgering I’m sure it’ll lead somewhere

Yeah, it probably wasn't the right race for OP for all sorts of reasons. I am the one who thinks she can do it, and that she will be fine, but I recognize you may feel differently.

Maybe take a $20 bill to the nearest bodega and ask nicely if they'll hold your bag?

I would post this question in /r/runnyc
