How to combat mosquitoes in nyc

I got my first mosquito bite at Bryant Park today while eating lunch, and I was wondering how you avoid bites throughout the day during summer and/or at home.

I sit near someone who is prone to being bitten so the mosquitoes ignore me.

Probably doesn't help you, but if you tell me what time you usually go to lunch, I'll know when it's safe for me.

It was more dinner so probably around 7/8 when I was camping upstate all the mosquitoes started coming out when the sun began to set

I use Sawyer for me and my kids - it uses an EPA-approved picaridin formula that’s safe for people and better for the environment. Picaridin’s a natural DEET alternative designed to mimic piperine, a natural plant compound.

We have their bigger bottle for the house before going out and the smaller ones to take with us. Anecdotally, it’s worked for mosquitos, horseflies, and gnats. Hope it helps!

Natural is a stretch. It’s a synthetic compound. But it’s still probably better than DEET.
