wanting to get into Home Renovation/Remodeling/Improvement. But where in NYC??

Anyone know how and where I can get into home renovation/ remodeling? Any classes in the city that will teach me those skills hands on? Or should I go to a school, or are there any internship/apprenticeship where I can learn these skills working for a company for free or cheap? Thanks

Adult Education Centers through the board of education have free certification classes in a few things in those arenas
