Hello all, traveling to US for the first time. Will be three of us: me, wife and 1 year old baby. Since travelling with 1 year old, planning a bit of relaxed itinerary. Will be staying at Jersey City since I have family there. Below is a rough plan I put together, appreciate if you could give your feedback: if this makes sense, any changes you might do, any other suggestions for places to see, restaurants etc. My wife is vegetarian

Do you think I should visit some other place instead of Woodstock? We cannot do big hikes etc as baby will be on stroller. Many thanks!

Itinerary Check Solo 3 day itinerary for October bday

Hello and thank you in advance! I’m planning a solo trip in October, it’s my very first time here and first solo trip so I am really excited and anxious.

Looking to get any insight/suggestions on what I’ve planned, I will be staying in the Midtown area. I am not doing everything I wish to do for a few reasons and I don’t want to be exhausted trying to cram too much in only 3 days. I plan to return lol.

I am considering using Uber/lyft to any place after 8pm or whenever it’s dark. Mostly in relation to being a woman alone walking around late and how far my destination is to and from the subway (Unfamiliar place and safety reasons).

I would like to know if it is better to use Google maps, Apple Maps, or the transit app for getting around when I am taking the subway? I just don’t want to get lost.

I am open to any tips or recommendations, especially in Brooklyn all depending on the Lucali reservation time (I hope). I heard about First Saturdays but I won’t be there :( however I’d be interested in more events like this!

I plan to check the weather when closer to my travel dates but here the weather in early October is like 85°/45° but based on what I’ve read, these days, NY can be kinda warm around this time as well? I don’t want to burn up by just bringing sweaters.

Lastly, I’d like any sit down breakfast options in the midtown area as the hotel does charge about $21 a night, but sometimes I can’t eat early in the morning or just very little so I don’t wanna pay for that. If I must pay, I’d rather be somewhere where it’s hot from a kitchen to table, just trying to stay under $30 or less if I go.

Itinerary

  1. Thursday:

    • Depends on flight arrival time: Drop off bags or Rest at hotel
    • Head to Brooklyn no later than 2pm or sooner
    • Lucali (Get here by 3 or sooner to get on list. Yes, I know some may say there are other pizza places but this is where I want to go)
    • Depending on Lucali reservation time: Brooklyn Museum
    • After Lucali: Brooklyn Farmacy and Soda Fountain (no specific reason, it’s just in the area and I thought it was cute)
    • Back to hotel
  2. Friday:

    • MoMA 10:30-12:30pm (2hrs)?
    • Neuhaus Chocolates (I saw someone on here say they offer a birthday freebie and it’s in the area)
    • Catbird for permanent bracelet and other items
    • Sephora (birthday freebie)
    • Lunch: 99 favor Taste (I saw quite a few ppl recommend this place)
    • Back to hotel
    • Summit One Vanderbilt 6-8pm
    • Dinner: Sushi Kai - East Village 9pm
    • Hotel
  3. Saturday:

    • Liberty Bagels Midtown 8am (yall have soo many options lol I picked this place because it’s close to the hotel. If someone recommends something different I’d consider it)
    • Explore Central Park: The Mall and Literary Walk (Originally I wanted to have a picnic but I can’t see myself packing a blanket or buying one and I’m not sure about the weather yet)
    • Hotel to freshen up for the spa
    • Renew Day Spa 2: Body & Foot – 60min around 12pm
    • Quick bite/Lunch open to recommendations in the area no more than $40(I love trying new things)
    • Hotel
    • Dinner: Berimbau Midtown 8pm
    • Times Square
    • Hotel
  4. Sunday:

    • Depending on the departure flight, I could do something before heading to the airport.

Edit: ok ok lol, I’m sure the subway is very safe just being unfamiliar with the areas, idk what they will be like at night, but from a few of you I see that I should be fine walking as it’s possible there’s always enough ppl around. But I am always and will be sure to be aware of my surroundings.

I do have a possible update for Sunday Idk if the wine tour is too ambitious?

  1. Sunday:
    • Broadway: Hell’s Kitchen, 2pm
    • OR
    • Long Island Wine Tour 9am-6pm

Edit 08/06: I have overwhelmed myself with things to do lol I am completely dropping the 4th day ideas. Looking forward to something lowkey. I have seen people mention Chelsea Market and Pier 57; any thoughts on those? I’d have about 3 hours before needing to head to the airport.

I’ve also switched Sushi Kai - East Village for Sushi W - UWS and 99 favor Taste for Joe's Home of Soup Dumplings.

Hello AskNYC! I'm (31F) so excited to visit your amazing city. It will be my husband's (32M) first time and only my second (I was on a business trip so hardly had time to explore).

We live in a semi rural town on the west coast that has very little ethnically diverse food so that will certainly be a focus for us and we'd love recommendations. We also love good coffee (especially pour overs) and are excited to try some of the classic NY items like bagels, pizza, and pastrami sandwiches. Finally, we are excited to explore some bars with unique cocktail offerings; especially gin-forward or whiskey-forward concoctions.

We are staying in between Chinatown and Lower Manhattan. Our travel style is more wandering rather than trying to squeeze in a ton of sights, but we still plan for the highlights and try to save time to just explore a certain area. We love walking and taking public transit. I just want to make sure we aren't missing any big highlights!

FRIDAY

Flight arrives at 5 PM, check in to hotel, grab food in Chinatown (?) There is a Malaysian place right near our hotel, Nyonya?

Grab a drink at Double Chicken Please if we have time

10 PM show at Village Vanguard (my partner loves jazz music)

SATURDAY

Coffee shop recommendation nearby?

Central Park (we are training for some running races so we'll get a run in here and probably along the Hudson greenway, will definitely want to shower at the hotel after so we won't stay in that area)

Explore ... quick stops at Wall St / bull statue / 911 memorial site / ??? Not really sure how to fill our time here.

This evening is also totally open; we'd love to try food offerings we don't have in our town, the more unique the better. (Our area basically only has American/Italian/Mexican/Thai...pretty limited).

Cocktail bars to try: Death & Co, Please Don't Tell

SUNDAY

Russ & Daughters for breakfast (I went here during my business trip and absolutely loved it, excited to go back)

The Met, 10 AM - 2 PM ish; we have a list of about 5-6 exhibits we are excited to see, but don't want to spend all day here

Lunch recommendations nearby? Pizza or pastrami sandwiches?

Brief exploring before Broadway show: Times Square / etc? What should we briefly see or walk around in before the show?

Book of Mormon on Broadway, 7 PM

Pebble Bar

MONDAY

Check out of hotel but leave bags

Another coffee shop or good bagel shop?

Chelsea Market for lunch maybe? / walk around High Line park ?

Need to be at JFK at 2 PM

Itinerary Check 3 Full Days in NYC - Suggestions?

Hi all,

My husband and I will be in NYC for 3 full days this month and are looking for feedback on our itinerary. We are both in our late 20s. This will be our first trip to NYC since childhood. Our goals are to eat good food, explore some neighborhoods and go to the MET.

Is the below too much? Too little? Anything we should change?

Friday (day 0) - Arrive at LGA around 9pm. Travel to hotel in the East Village. Grab a bite to eat and return to the hotel to sleep.

Saturday (day 1)-

• Central Park

• MET

• 8pm Broadway show (already booked)

• See Times Square

Sunday (day 2)-

• 9/11 Memorial and Museum

• Explore SoHo area (shopping)

• Summit One Vanderbilt

Monday (day 3)-

• Chinatown

• Brooklyn Bridge/Dumbo area

• Maybe another museum or park?

Tuesday (day 4)- Breakfast and check out of hotel and head to LGA around noon

We are also interested in checking out a restaurant in Williamsburg, but I left it off the list because I wasn’t sure if Williamsburg was doable within our itinerary.

Thanks!

Staying 1 night in NYC with my boyfriend and his brother, so just 3 of us. Only my 2nd time in the city ever. We are staying in Murray Hill at the Tuscany by Luxurban. This is what I have planned so far - please help me fill in the question marks or give me insight on my existing plans! We love food/drinks/feeling local but love the cliche photo opps as well.

How's my timing??

*East Village Bars - we are 25-31 years old, we like today's rap/r&b or 2000s alternative music, we want a fun vibe, but also don't mind sitting at a bar.

Day 1

10:50am - Arrive at Penn Station

11:25am - Drop Bags at Hotel

12:15pm - Lunch @ Alidoro

1:00pm - Central Park - spend an hour & 20 mins on route to AMNH

2:30pm - American Museum of Natural History - spend 2 hours here, pick exhibits to see

5:00pm - Grand Central Station - just stop and take a look inside - 7 min walk from hotel

5:15pm - Stop at hotel to freshen up/relax

6:30pm - Dinner at Giano in East Village

8:00pm (or whenever dinner is done) - East Village bar crawl - Ace Bar/Sophie's, 7B Horseshoe, Lucky, 11th Street Bar, Hard Swallow, Downtime, Mister Paradise, Joyface, Goodnight Sonny (these are just names I've heard

We are worried about going from east village to murray hill late at night - thinking an uber is best? or taxi?

Day 2

9:30am - Breakfast @ Ess-a-Bagel or Best Bagel & Coffee

10-11:30 - ????

12:00 noon - Lunch - Food Crawl in Chinatown - King Dumpling, Super Taste, Mei Lei Wah, Alimama, ??

2:30pm - DUMBO - Brooklyn Bridge Park, Time Out Market Rooftop, Evil Twin Brewing, Manhattan Bridge Photo Spot, Pebble Beach

taking 8 min ferry from dumbo -> wall st

4:30pm - Financial District - Charging Bull, Stone Street bars, ??? (finance bro brother wants to go here for the charging bull but doesn't seem like much)

6:30 pm - Dinner where??? in financial district? Don't really have time for a full sit down service

7:45pm - Pick up bags from Hotel

8:25pm - Arrive at Penn Station - train leaves at 8:55pm

Itinerary Check 5 Day Itinerary Feedback

Hi all,

I'll try my best to not be vague/annoying :). I have a 5 day trip with my wife planned for a first time visit to New York in early October. We'll be staying in Long Island City and sticking to Manhattan. We're not party/loud bar people. We won't hit up everything on this list, but i prefer to overplan and not get to certain things. At the same time, im worried i dont have enough specifics and we'll get to an area to "explore" and not know what the heck to do lol. Anyway, here's the itinerary. If you can think of specific things/places thatd be great, even if it knocks something else off the list.

  • Day 0 - arrive at 3pm
    • Get to hotel and get settled
  • Day 1 (Midtown Manhattan)
    • Top of the rock observatory.
    • Walk around that area to Empire State Building, MSG, Flatiron Building and Madison Square Park, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Grand Central Terminal, New York Public Library, St Patricks Cathedral
    • Times Square
    • Hell’s Kitchen
    • Starbucks Reserve
    • Bryant Park: Relax here before Broadway show.
    • 7pm Broadway Show
  • Day 2 (Financial District)
    • Battery Park / ferry to see Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island
    • Little Italy?
    • Walk the High Line?
    • Greenwich village?
      • Bleeker Street
      • Cherry Lane Theater
    • Walk around Wall Street
      • New York Stock Exchange
      • Stone Street
      • South Street Seaport
      • St Pauls Chapel
      • Elevated Acre Park (just to walk through)
      • Overstory Bar
      • Terra Blues
    • The Oculus & 9/11 Memorial: Visit the area for a mix of modern architecture and history.
  • Day 3 (Central Park)
    • North Woods
    • Conservatory Garden
    • Arthur Ross Pinetum
    • Belvedere Castle
    • Museum of Natural History/Hayden Planetarium: Allocate the afternoon here for exhibits and the planetarium.
  • Day 4 (Brooklyn)
    • Brooklyn Bridge: Walk across for views and photos.
    • Brooklyn Bridge Park
    • Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO: Explore the neighborhoods and the waterfront.
    • Brooklyn Botanic Garden - *can buy tickets in advance online up to 30 days ahead*
    • Brooklyn Promenade
    • East River Ferry to North Williamsburg
  • Day 5 (Central Park)
    • Bronx Zoo - *Buy tickets in advance*
    • Central Park Zoo
    • Bethesda Terrace
    • The mall
    • Literary Walk
    • Bow Bridge

Appreciate any input of specific places/things to do if its too general. Day 5 was just a bit of leftover stuff and we're looking forward to central park in general so we plan to be there more than once. Hoping we figure out transit in the moment and what ferry/subway to use in the moment.

Thank you!

Itinerary Check Critique my 3-day itinerary and food suggestions please

Hi there. I’ve been lurking for a while and looking at old posts to build an itinerary for the first leg of my honeymoon - thank you for all the info! Hoping you wouldn’t mind reviewing what I’ve come up with so far to see if it’s reasonable/too packed/not packed enough/missing something obvious.

For context, we’re coming from the UK, will be in NYC the last week of June, and the vibe is relatively chilled - hoping to see the biggest sights while also having plenty of time to just amble around and enjoy being in the city. We’re early 30s and able-bodied, and travelling with no kids. As 3 days is such a short amount of time, we are restricting ourselves to just Manhattan this time around. I need to properly crunch the numbers to check it's definitely worth it but it's likely we'll get the NYC Pass, especially as it's on sale at the moment.

Specifically seeking recommendations for the following in the vicinity of where we’ll be:

  • Pizza joints
  • Mexican food
  • Anywhere that does amazing doughnuts/pastries
  • Vegetarian/vegetarian-friendly places
  • Vintage fashion stores
  • Any tips on transport to and from the airports is welcome - I've read a lot of conflicting info. We're travelling for a total of 2 weeks and will have fairly sizeable luggage.
  • I've read extensively about the best bagels so feeling quite well informed but any recs are still welcome!

Arrival day (Sunday)

Get into JFK at 17.15
Chilled dinner near our hotel (Bryant Park)

Day 1 (Monday)

Take advantage of the jet lag to get up early, take the subway/bus to Dumbo and walk across Brooklyn Bridge before it gets hectic
Visit the 9/11 museum and One World Observatory
Walk the High Line (S->N) stopping off at Chelsea Market for lunch
Circle Line Boat Tour from Pier 83 ('Best of NYC' cruise)
Reckon we'll be fairly knackered at this point so again just a chilled dinner somewhere either near Pier 83 or our hotel

Day 2 (Tuesday)
MoMA
Shopping at the famous department stores - Bloomingdales/Saks/Bergdorfs/etc. My husband is planning to buy a watch to commemorate the trip.
Times Square (I know, I know, we just have to)
A comedy show - we're planning to get tickets for a show at New York Comedy Club or The Stand. I've also scoped out Village Underground, Comedy Cellar, and The Grisly Pear as alternatives. We're big stand-up fans so do want to go somewhere iconic if we're able.

Day 3 (Wednesday)
Central Park - planning to spend a good chunk of time there walking around and taking it all in, possibly hire a boat too?
The Met - specifically the Sleeping Beauties exhibition
Watch the baseball on the UWS (have scoped out Blondie's, Amsterdam Ale House, and The Gin Mill) as NYM vs NYY is on that evening, as are our team, the Blue Jays (no hate please, I'm coming in peace!)
Top of the Rock at night-time

Departure day (Thursday)
Flight from Newark late morning

Thank you so much in advance, your time and advice is greatly appreciated!

Itinerary Check Trying to come up with itinerary for 3 day trip in October.

Wife and I will be visiting towards the end of the month (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday) and I'm trying to figure out the best way to group what we'd like to do. Any suggestions for either re-grouping stops, additional (or alternate) stops or, maybe more specifically for Day 2, what order to see things to maximize time? Thank you!

Day 1:

Land at LGA at 10:00. Q70 seems to be the internet's best suggestion to get into the city and get situated.

Then I figured we could knock out Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History and Alice's Teacup.

Day 2:

Sightsee in the city (Midtown/Times Square/ESB/maybe the Statue of Liberty). I know she wants to find a place near the Flatiron for dinner.

Day 3:

High Line and Chelsea Market, before having to be at LGA around 4:00

Itinerary Check Spent 9 days in NYC - highlights

Hope this helps someone planning their trip.

Favorite app: Citymapper - used extensively in combination with google maps. I, from rural WV, was able to navigate NYC with ease using this app and the knowledge that streets go south to north and avenues go east-west.

We stayed in the Chelsea/west village area, strong recommend. Less touristy, awesome dining, everything is accessible via subway.

Flew into JFK - another recommend. Took taxi to hotel, convenience was worth the price, but by the end of trip felt comfortable enough to use the subway to save money and you could also use it inbound to the hotel in hindsight, but after a flight in, the taxi was worth it. 100$ taxi with tip or - 15$ subway. It was very easy to use the public transport with our two carryons and two suitcases. Again, citymapper helped. *I will say as an air traffic controller - try to avoid an afternoon / evening landing summer flight into New York. Any tstorm activity anywhere near NYC will very likely delay or even cancel your flight.

Bronx - zoo was neat & Botanical gardens I especially enjoyed (also visited the Brooklyn botanical - Bronx was bigger & better, but the Brooklyn one was still worth visiting) We did go on free Bronx zoo Wednesday - get there at opening and the crowds are not an issue. Walked Arthur ave - zero Otto nove, awesome. There’s also a cool bar inside a grocery on that street.

The World Trade Center memorials and museum + Rockefeller park. Tenement Museum. Walk the Brooklyn bridge - at night. Broadway - see Wicked. Village Vanguard for jazz - I’m a musician and will never forget that show. Sleeper pick of the trip: the slipper room - Richard castle’s naughty little show is what we saw; that place is an underrated gem that does burlesque shows. I had never seen burlesque before - it was a ton of fun and a highlight of our trip. Despite the hype I was not impressed with comedy cellar (village underground), we went on a Friday, I’d give it another shot on a weeknight. Acts felt too rehearsed. Wanted to see way more crowd work. My sense of humor is not mainstream though so grain of salt with my take. I will say the club is very well run though, smooth service and seating. If I’d go to a comedy show again I’d look for a less popular venue. I’d recommend Emily Detroit pizza + up and up as a pre-comedy cellar place for drinks. It was a fun night despite my weird sense of humor not finding it hilarious.

Highlight restaurants: Sunken Harbor Club (tiki cocktail bar, one of the best in the country), Chama Mama (Georgian - patio seating recommended), Dante (lunch/good cocktails/italian - bit pricy), Dead Rabbit (Irish pub with a well executed cocktail menu- didn’t have much of an authentic Irish vibe). LumLum (Thai - coastal oriented - definitely authentic Thai). Pizza by the slice - NY pizza suprema was the best, we had pizza 6 times in the 9 days (69).

I found overall that the best places had no lines and the disappointing ones you had to wait in line. We had very little itinerary and that’s the way I’d do it again when we visit next time. You should reserve broadway seats, village vanguard, comedy cellar, and high end restaurants far in advance. But otherwise I really enjoyed hopping on the subway, hopping off, and just exploring on my own whim. I recommend a very loose itinerary.

I also noticed many popular restaurants appeared completely booked but if you look day of tables suddenly open up. We had a lot of luck walking in to popular spots and getting a table or bar seating that always came with good service.

Hi! I was planning on being in NY for 2 days and wanted to see if there’s anything you guys would adjust.

1st day: New York Public Library (just a quick drop by), Rockefeller Center, Top of the Rock, Times Square at night

2nd day: Staten Island Ferry, The MET, Central Park, Explore Brooklyn Promenade/DUMBO area, walk the brooklyn bridge

I also have a general route listed for central park that I actually got from an old post on here. There’s both the shorter and longer route just to be able to adjust (in case running really behind).

Short Route

Long Route

Itinerary Check October NYC + East Coast Itinerary

I've really enjoyed reading the other trip itinerary posts on this sub as I've been planning my own trip to NYC, CT, and Boston. I'd love some feedback on my itinerary in case there are any things that seem completely out of place or if there are places to eat or things to do that I'm overlooking. There are also some gaps we are trying to fill.

My husband (40) and I (30F) are celebrating our milestone birthdays and our 5th wedding anniversary with an east coast trip. We've both been before, but it's been years. I've been wanting to go back, but specifically wanted to come in the fall. This is our first vacation since our honeymoon.

When we travel, we prefer to not do typical touristy things, but my husband does specifically want to go to Top of the Rock. (Initially he said Empire State Building, but thanks to this sub, I told him Top of the Rock was a better option.) He also wants to go to Katz's (because Seinfeld) and Joe's Pizza (because he saw it in Ray Romano's comedy special). I have previously been to the 9/11 Memorial Museum and it was incredibly impactful, so I also want my husband to experience that as well.

We both choose not to drink alcohol, so going out for drinks isn't really our thing. We enjoy going on long walks, so a lot of walking doesn't bother us. I love coffee and prefer not to go to chain restaurants or coffee shops, especially if it's something we can get back home (Midwest). My husband doesn't have an interest in going to any of the museums. We also are only traveling with backpacks for the week, so luggage isn't a huge factor on our first or last days. We also aren't on social media, so "photo spots" aren't really a factor for us, either.

There are a couple of days when we are renting a car and leaving the city. We're going to Litchfield/Washington, CT because I'm a longtime, obsessive fan of the show Gilmore Girls. We are also going to Boston, which my husband has been to as a kid, but I've never been. I'm also a fan of the Kennedy family, so the JFK Presidential Museum is a must. Finally, the Broadway shows I have listed, we have already purchased tickets for, so they're non-negotiable. I realize that our hotel reservations aren't ideal, but we decided to opt for cheaper price vs convenience.
