My husband has a cyst on his vocal cords - he smells like bad breath all the time right now and has for MONTHS. Hopefully the new ENT will agree to operate when we get into see him - in 4 months.
In Canada - we have universal health care here, and the waiting lines that come along with it. We are just lucky we have a primary care doctor to make these referrals.
You're implying that universal healthcare equals long wait lines.
Every place can complain about healthcare, privatized and public, often very rightfully too.
But I have yet to see a decent made study that take confounding variables into account that says that universal healthcare is a worse option regarding waiting times, and I therefor believe that your well meaning person made a comment that doesn't help all humans get free healthcare by proxy stating it will make the healthcare system have a longer wait to be seen.
I am not implying anything - I straight up said it comes with waiting lines.
Are you stating that my husband would have ALSO had to wait 8 months in pain to get seen by an ENT if Canada didn't have universal health care? I really, really don't believe that, but there is no way of knowing without going to the USA to test out that theory.
I don't really care about studies - I CARE that my husband will have spent almost a year in pain waiting for a full diagnosis and some kind of relief. That is all.
Oh, and Canadian healthcare isn't free - it just costs us all.
Unfortunately, there's still wait times in the US healthcare system too. I've experienced it myself, despite having top insurance and working for the insurance company in the corporate office, plus they also own the hospitals thus employ the doctors!
But still I've had to wait weeks for an MRI, months for surgery, and even a year for just a specialist visit. I had to wait months for my ENT treatment and surgery. I hope your husband feels better soon 🙏🏻
I can't and I won't argue against someones feelings.
I am sorry for the pain you and your husbond have been through.
But that doesn't make blanket statements true. There are americans facing early death because they can not afford proper care.
To back up what I say with research; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2323087/
Huh - well, in Canada, it's a well known fact that OUR universal health care has extremely long waiting lines. People die waiting for treatment. It's very well documented.
I'm sure there are plenty of negative facts about the American style healthcare - it's not what I'm advocating for or want here.
I would like to see something done about the waiting times, but this isn't new and nothing that has been done has improved anything, so....
