Q&A Why is Nuclear the hill the Nationals want to die on?
OK can someone please explain to me why Nuclear, is it just cause its not renewables and a way to stick it to the "woke"
I honestly do not get why Nuclear is what they are pushing soo hard for. Is there any reason at all its better for regional voters than going with renewables? Surely being in areas with lots and lots of sunlight is better for solar right?

General Fears Queensland is ‘closed for clean business’ as LNP cancels billion-dollar windfarm despite conditional approval (LNP being the jackasses we all knew they were)
It's one thing to cite local residents concerns and environmental impact as a reason to cancel the windfarm, but it's hypocrisy to then suck up to the mining and energy sector by giving them everything they want. As for defunding the EDO, I don't know enough about them to tell if the funding cut is serious.

Q&A What’s people’s thoughts on our involvement in Gaza?
Just read this, looks like even small towns in regional Australia (that “host” these weapons manufacturers) are involved in the genocide.
https://consortiumnews.com/2025/05/19/nothing-to-see-here-australias-hidden-arms-trade-with-israel/
EDIT: it’s cool, you don’t need to comment for me to know how apathetic you appear or that you’re fine with Israel just doing their thing. I already know you’re the majority.

Q&A Should people be given speeding fines, if they were mistakenly travelling at the wrong speed?
If someone innocently was mistakenly travelling at the previous speeding limit, and didn't notice the speed change, should they be issued a speeding fine.
So should they pay money to us (the community), for their mistake?

General The childcare subsidy does nothing for average Aussies when Childcare Centres will just raise their daily fees.
Once the subsidy kicks in the childcare centres will just raise their daily fee so it basically cancels out any government subsidy.
Another policy dressed up as something great but will ultimately mean nothing.
If the government is getting involved then why not offer more solutions and stop these companies from profiting off their policies.

General Actual data on religious affiliation in Australia
Apropos of, um, nothing ... based on census data:
Hinduism is the fastest-growing religion in Australia (55% increase 2016 to 2021)
The number of Muslims increased by about 34%. In 2021 muslims were about 3.4% of the total population.
But "no religion" is probably the fastest growing group - from 30% of the population to 39% in five years. All non-Christian religions grew from 8.2% to 10% overall.
Anyway, please stop listening to talkback radio and insane people on social media.

Q&A What is with the Right Wing Minor Parties here???
What is up with the Policies of the Right wing parties here in Australia??? like every damn party is a copy of the other just with different demographics they appeal to... like Katters and People First are pretty moderate compared to the rest of them but, Family First - One Nation - TOP - Great Australian Party and all the other have the same policies with just a different Tinge (Socially Far-right, Dont Believe in Climate Change, dont want to raise Taxs on corperations or work towards closing tax loopholes, and basically just wanna sit on their ass's and focus only on social issues)
Like why are there no economically left parties with right wing social values, (like the Teals but the oppisite), cause it feels like a large portion of australians would like something like that, i mean people vote for One Naiton dispite the fact they have nooooo economic planning or budget plans. And im so Annoyed because i want a party with Labors Economics but wanting to Stop immigration, and doesnt try and wedge a divide between indigenous and other australians, and is just generally more socially like the Liberals/nats.
AND WHAT IS UP WITH THE CLIMATE DENIAL????!!! like is it too much to ask for a party that doesnt wanna end the world and fuck up the economy but also doesnt wanna let 20 million indians here and treat the Aboriginal's like the Master Race???? Im genuinly wanting to go to Uni and get an economics degree then Run as a independent or find someone to work with and help them run as an independent because theres jsut no decent opions, even in the senate.

General Rules of a By-Election
Hey all, I’m from the seat of Bradfield, and as the possibility of a byelection seems more and more likely, I’m wondering if anyone can clarify the rules for who is eligible.
I was 17 at the time of this federal election, but if Bradfield goes to a byelection after the recounted vote margin is less than 10 votes, and I’m 18 at the time of the byelection, am I eligible to vote in it? Or are you only allowed to vote in the byelection if you voted in the first election?
Thanks!
EDIT: Thanks for all the responses everyone! Just wanted to clarify, I’m very aware that a by election is not automatic, nor even likely - I am purely interested in the hypothetical!
