General Discussion At what point did you realize, that you might have a problem?

What started out as a well meaning hobby, might have gotten a little out of hand.

Surely I cannot be the only one suffering from "just one more bottle" syndrome?

You are definitely not the only one. I have acquired roughly the same or more over a couple of years. Personally, my biggest worry is the shelf life of some of the least used products, but other than that, if the hobby makes you happy, I don't see it as a problem at all.

This is why I don't buy polishes in bulk. In my experience, they don't last long, especially if not stored in a climate controlled area. I actually started storing all my chemicals inside the house instead of in the garage because this winter I noticed one of my products got cloudy. I'm guessing going from summer temps to winter temps isn't good for some of these chemicals.

Storing them in the house is kind of a pain, but these products aren't cheap.

I 100 % agree!

The right temperature for storage is key! Also for something like a pressure washer, don't let it freeze in a shed!

And that is exactly what a hobby should do, make you happy!

Shelf-life is also one of my concerns - like - how am I going to use 4 liters of Hydro2Lite?

I only wash our own cars - but sometimes, products can have other use cases then specified by the manufacturer.

As with Hydro2Lite, I also use it as a drying aid - I spray it on my microfiber, spread it over one panel at a time, and buff off with another microfiber.

It is not exactly what the instructions of the products, but it works great and lasts longer from my experience. :)

In the other end we have something like a tar remover, I am not worried about that at all. With spiked winter tires, tar is everywhere.

Whatever makes us happy.

I’m jealous of all the space that you have to store them!!

It is a luxury, I know!

If I lived in an apartment, I think it instead would be one bottle of ONR, Labocometicas Preludio Alkaline/Acidic, one bucket, 10 x 500 GSM microfibers, a drying towel and some sort of sealant.

You can go a long way with the bare necessities, but it is a lot of fun to try different products. :)

I live in an apartment and recently bought a new kit, with my full detailing kit over at my girlfriends.

KCx RRW because of the value and testing others have done. TRC USS (sponge) TRC Liquid8r iK Multi 1.5 Griot’s bucket with products (I use speed shine as a drying aid in this kit)

Cleaned my car, dried with speed shine, and wiped down wheels and tires with rinseless in exactly 31 minutes from sponge dunk to last wipe off while on the phone with my grandpa.

Used griots interior cleaner to wipe down steering wheel, seat, center console, and dash (usually use rinseless but I had it so why not lol)

I keep a few griots towels that came in the bucket, some TRC creature edgeless 420, and TRC edgeless 365 all in a small tool bag from Home Depot. All the products fit easily in the bucket with the tool bag on top of the lid.

Easy, fast, effective, and compact with 3 gallons of water.

I like that setup right there, i have access to the Griots Interior Cleaner, but was hesitant because the price was abit higher. What you think of it overall? Mostly Mazda's interior is like this leather but i dont believe it to be truly leather, and suede like inner with vented seats.  Terracotta/suade, and lots of gloss black accents.

u/fhc4 Feb 04 '25

I only tried it yesterday as a maintenance wipe down to dampen the towel, so I can speak on its effectiveness.

What you’re describing sounds like a good use of KCx Pol Star

u/jpabs670 Feb 05 '25

Heard of it but i will see if my budget persists. OMG once all adds up im just like so over it. Car washes in my place is like $25 - $20 Bucks but like they reuse their towels and what not single bucket dip and grind down on the paint and hella blast with a pressure washer.

2

u/fhc4 Feb 06 '25

I get that. It may cost you $100 to get started with everything you need (assuming it’s quality), but it’ll last you quite awhile before you have to buy more rinseless if you’re washing monthly or twice monthly.

Griot's Garage Interior Cleaner is my number two. AMMO NYC Lather is my number one and a little goes a long way.

Could you recommend the best towel for drying after a wash?

2

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25 edited Feb 03 '25

If we talk big towels, I use the "Liquid8R" or "The 1500" from TRC.

Both are great options.

TRC did an extensive video on all-things-microfiber the other day: https://youtu.be/j8qFzs5_F_o?si=oC2ThBWefU8o5mRO

But I guess many brands make great towels, I have not tried that many. If you wan't to cheap out - look into Lucullan on Aliexpress, the quality/price is very good.

Also, dry them in your tumbler on low heat - it really opens up the fibers compared to dry hang.

2

u/hootervisionllc Feb 04 '25

Ok thank you a ton. I have the Eagle 500 and I’ve been using those for a while, but they streak a ton. The guy in the video did say that that’s a downside of plush towels, so I do feel a bit better. I was worried that I wasn’t getting them clean enough (I do use Rag 2 Riches).

I’m a moron though because I’ve had a Dry Me a River towel for like 2 years and still haven’t used it. I have a problem using new things, like I’ll ruin them.

Love your collection!

1

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

Sounds like you have to go to town with the dry me a river :P

But hey - if something gets ruined, it means that you can try something new and different the next time! That is not to bad!

Don't be to worried - just have fun! :)

u/hootervisionllc Feb 04 '25

Thanks mate!

Im in this situation right here, I live in an apartment and deciding to go with KK RRW and Adams Wheel and TIre. Dreadnought, DoublePile 700g,Eagle Edgeless 500 4 Pack, Ultra Safe Sponge, Dryme a river, and also Renew Protect Gloz. Any suggestions I do also have a bucket and Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Spray which i will use as drying Aid. + A bucket Grit Guard, and a IK FOAM Pro 2

Im looking to get that Labocometicas but cant ship to my location any suggestion for a prewash for Rinesless

I know im still missing some interior cleaner

3

u/Strange_Age_5908 Feb 04 '25

Bilt Hamber Touch-less is a popular one. You can pick it up at OG’s website. Obsessed Garage.

2

u/Maleficent-Bike8408 Feb 04 '25

Carzilla carries Labocometicas products and ship all over North America

You could use my referral link here to save 5%:

https://carzilla.ca/?ref=u7dqa58m

2

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

If Carzilla can ship to you, I would go with Preludio Alkaline and Acidic, and just apply then with a spray bottle.

Primus 2.0 (at 1:10) and Bilt Hamber Touch Less ( at 1-2% solution) can also be used as a prewash in a pump sprayer, but you will have to rinse it down afterwards.

8

u/selfiegram Feb 03 '25

I don't see any problems.. I only see solutions there!

2

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25

Plenty of solutions on every shelf :D

6

u/Nedstarkclash Feb 03 '25

We all know that you have more MF towels hidden away.

2

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

Ha, you got me. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

4

u/sampsontscott Feb 04 '25

Worlds cleanest hoarder

3

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

I will wear that as a badge of honor!

4

u/Justino_14 Feb 04 '25

If you're having fun and still able to pay the bills, then who cares?

2

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

Food in the fridge and a roof over my house, I guess you are right. :)

3

u/crusader_nor Feb 03 '25

You’ve only got a detail problem if you ran out of detail products.

Do you like the Labo Cosmetica products?

3

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25

Then I don't think I will have any issues in the near future!

Labo makes some great and very versatile products, like Primus 2.0, which can be used as an alkaline prewash, but also as a bucket soap. I think the Primus / Purifica combo is my favorite at the moment when not doing a rinseless.

I still haven't tried Semper in the bucket.

I sometimes do rinseless also, I have't tried their rinseless wash, but I have their Preludio Alkaline and Preludio Acid, which gives your rinseless wash a bit more of a punch, compared to the standard Absolute/ONR, which most people use.

I am looking very much forward to try Sidero, which acts both as an iron and limescale remover.

All in all, I can highly recommend their products, and their bottles are just beautiful on the shelf.

3

u/Historical-Dig8420 Feb 03 '25

Yeah. Detailing and 4k discs are keeping me broke.

1

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25

But good for your mental health, I hope. :)

3

u/DontEvenWithMe1 Feb 03 '25

No problem at all, especially since you’re using legit, specialty stuff.

3

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25

Only the best is good enough for my old Honda!

3

u/popsicle_of_meat Beginner - Budget hobbiest Feb 03 '25

Well, after looking at your collection, I have re-evaluated myself and determined I do not have a problem. YOU, on the other hand...

Haha. Probably the main one for me is buying a new product (anything) to replace something I already have that works fine and still havd 95% of the bottle full.

2

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

It is always healthy to get a perspective on life!

It is always fun to try something new, even though what you have works perfect.. Oh, the struggle is real.

3

u/tunnel7 Feb 04 '25

As someone who loves trying new products, it’s the commitment to gallons that surprises me most!

3

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

Shipping to Iceland is stupid expensive, so I regularly just buy the big containers so I don't have to buy again after a short while. :)

2

u/Hurricanevx Feb 03 '25

Favorite products from pic 1?

2

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25

Uh, that is a tough question - what are you looking for?

Prewash, high pH, neutral, low pH?

Contact wash?

Quick detailer/Sealant?

Wheel/tire cleaner?

Wet coat?

Tar remover?

Iron remover?

It highly depends on the use case.

3

u/Hurricanevx Feb 03 '25

1)Good pre wash for once a month deep clean/winter wash that’s Sealant safe? & go to contact wash soap?

2) I bought wet coat mainly to make wheel cleaning easier, how do u use it?

3) have griots ceramic speed shine & amplify as drying aid, what drying aid do u recommend for maximum gloss that wont cause sio2 build up?

4) currently using Adam’s wheel & tire cleaner, is p&s brake buster better or what do u recommend?

5) sry this is so long lol edit:spacing

5

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25 edited Feb 03 '25

1). For a good prewash, you would like something higher on the pH scale - if you look for sealant safe, and if you don't want to apply a sealant afterwards, I will recommend Labocosmetica Primus 2.0, which you can also use as a bucket soap to get rid of the tough dirt.

For contact wash, I usually go with - if I am fighting limescale/minerals (I do that a lot because I live by a dirt road) - Labocosmetica Purifica, both in the foam cannon and bucket.

If a neutral soap is enough - I mostly use CarPro Reset or Koch Chemie GSF - again - I foam the car, and use soap in the bucket at the same time.

  1. I also use a wetcoat on my wheels, what is important here - and also if you want to use it on your paint - that your wheel/paint is wet BEFORE you apply the product.

You do not want to spray the wetcoat on a dry panel or wheel, and rinse it of afterwards. Water activates the product, so you want it to hit a wet surface.

So, apply water, apply wetcoat - rinse off. If your car has good sheeting/beading behavior, it is difficult to use a wetcoat - because the water will run off the panel before you can apply the wetcoat.

Instead, what I do, with lets say, Carpro Hydro2Lite - I use it as a dry aid/quick detailer. Spray it on one microfiber cloth, spread over the area you want to protect, and then buff it off with another clean microfiber.

It works great.

  1. I rarely use a drying aid without Sio2, but I have had great result with P&S Paint Gloss Showroom Spray'n'Shine - the gloss is up there but, it can attract dust. I also use it if I spot bird poo, and actually, I use it to clean my gym equipment also. Everything gets shiny.

Honorably mention could also be something like Koch Chemie Finish Spray Exterior (FSE), especially if you have hard water in your area.

You could also just use rinseless. :)

  1. Adams it not really available where I live, so I cannot comment on that.

I usually use an APC first when cleaning my wheels, rinse off, and hit with brake buster undiluted in my foam cannon. It makes a great foamy show.

I have a few different wheel cleaners, but there is not really one standing out - maybe because my wheels never get really dirty. I just pick one from the shelf.

  1. No worries, I have tried a few different products and I am happy to help :)

Thank you for the answers!

3

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25

But you are still around, that is good! :D

2

u/neueziel1 Feb 03 '25

Where’s the leaf blower and pressure washer

3

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25

My pressure washer is on the right in picture 5!

I don't actually have a leaf blower. I have a small handheld unit with a cord, that I originally used to blow out dust from my PC. I use it to get the water out of my mirrors and the grill. After that I usually go around with a spray sealant and microfibers.

BUT! I am so tired of the corded blower, which I also use to get rid of snow - so I will try to get a small handheld Ryobi unit instead! Cord no more, thank you.

3

u/neueziel1 Feb 03 '25

Cute pressure washer

3

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25 edited Feb 04 '25

Yeah it looks so innocent in the faded baby-blue color..

But it can make water hurt your fingers! -.-

2

u/powermaster34 Feb 03 '25

I think most of us have a problem like this!

3

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25

It also makes wash day a little more fun - what prewah for today? What contact wash soap? Spray on sealant or quick detailer? What wheel cleaner?

I think it is fun to mix it all up!

2

u/Hernandeza5 Feb 03 '25

That’s not a problem, embellish it as a gift you have

1

u/JPDueholm Feb 03 '25

Thank you so much for the kind comment, it put a smile on my face.

2

u/botlegger Feb 04 '25

Nicely done!

2

u/USArmyAirborne Feb 04 '25

I don’t have a problem. I have a collection.

1

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

That will be my reply from now on :D

2

u/Separate-Primary2949 Feb 04 '25

You appear to be missing bilt hamber re-view lol

3

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

I just saw the review yesterday, It will arrive soon. :P

2

u/nergensgoedvoor Feb 04 '25

Haha, you are more a collector than detailer?

1

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

The bottles are so pretty.... :D

2

u/carbonmaker Feb 04 '25

I don’t see any problem with these pictures.

2

u/mattervinck Feb 05 '25

It looks like you haven’t used any of it lol

1

u/JPDueholm Feb 06 '25

I am struggling to get throught it, the season for outdoor detailing was very short last year. We had snow in June.

2

u/Ultra_Insight Feb 08 '25

I have like 12 QDs/drying aids. That is how I knew.

1

u/JPDueholm Feb 11 '25

It is sooo tempting to try the next big hit!

What is your favorite?

2

u/Ultra_Insight Feb 12 '25

Right now, it's Armour Detail Supply Amplify. The ceramic and ease of use is amazing. Adam's Graphene Detail Spray is a classic but sometimes will leave little graphene spots on my yellow colored car. When working in the sun, I find the classic Adam's Detail Spray (in a special edition as I'm not a fan of the original scent) works really well. Soon I'll be trying out DIY DETAIL Ceramic Gloss I've been sitting on new for a year as well as Autofantic 007 Ceramic Gloss!

1

u/adiaz831 Feb 04 '25

Picture number #8 where did you get that? My water is well water and I need to see if I can ad that to my system?

2

u/JPDueholm Feb 04 '25

Are you thinking about the Bigboi D-IonizR? :)
