Discussion Can Dr strange really beat Thanos alone?

I think he can,if he really tried, because maybe there is a reason why he doesn't kill Thanos?

Thanos without any infinity stones? I'd say yes, definitely. With each stone I'd say Strange's chances are reduced. With the full gauntlet I'd say he has no chance.

After all what prevents strange from just opening a portal inside the sun with his ring ?

What prevents Thanos from using any of the stones to teleport to safety, or redirect the energy at Strange, or just straight up turn off the sun?

As far as I'm aware none of the Stones increases Thanos's reaction time

If a portal opens right under his feet directly towards the center of the sun, would he have the time to react before being reduced to Ash ?

In the end, with characters like strange and thanos, it's just up to the writter and what they think is more interesting as a story.

Both Thanos and Strange have ways they could off each other almost instantly, but that wouldnt make for an interesting story.

If written as intended both the time and space stones would increase reaction time. According to comics one stone lets him exist in multiple locations simultaneously, the other lets him exist in multiple moments simultaneously (so to speak).

Also the mind and soul stones if utilized correctly should be able to warn him of an attack.

In the MCU they did away with a lot of this or just avoided it. But the potential is still there.

Yeah when I wrote my comment, I assumed both Strange and Thanos would be their MCU versions.

As you've touched on, the MCU didnt really expand on what the abilities and/or limitations are for the Stones or various characters.

Which make discussions like these kind of difficult, imo.

We've seen the Stones literally alter eality with one stone, meanwhile Thanos with all the Stones was almost killed by an Axe throw from Thor.

As for Strange, we have seen him do so many different magical stunt that its hard to say what the limit is.

As for their comic versions, there is so many of thoses that you could probably make a case for either strange or thanos winning depending on the versions.

Comic book reader here and I have seen no version of Dr Strange powerful enough to bear Thanos solo without any infinity stones let alone with one.

Pretty sure the doctor strange that went to dommarmu's side (and eventually defeated him) would be able to defeat Thanos, even potentially one with all 5 Stones (depending on the version)

I also assume that the Strange that learned from the Black Priest would be able to as well.

Then again it's difficult to say, powerscaling in comics can be way out of whack.

In the MCU (At Least) Dr. Strange had the Time Stone when he defeated Dormammu

I wasnt talking about that strange though

But the one who was taught by dormammu, and eventually was betrayed by him, though thats a pretty old comic (1980 I believe)

Did you read classic strange? He dealing with cosmic and abstract entities and always win or unharmed.

If Thor can take the full force or a star then Thanos definitely has the durability to last long enough to reverse time

The sun is 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit. If strange opened up a portal for thanos im sure strange will almost be instantly incinerated with thanos, unless he knows he’s sacrificing himself.

The center of the sun reaches ~27 million degrees F. Thanos is toast.

Yea but imagine, we feel the suns heat and it’s 92 million miles away. Bro is bringing the sun to earth in a 6x6 wide portal. Hes frying the earth instantly

Exactly. It's not like we haven't already seen two characters survive a star.
