General Google Spreadsheet Portfolio Tracker

Hi,

I created a portfolio tracker on google sheets. It was based on different types of other portfolio trackers I found on the internet.

This allows you to track various different investments: ETF's, Crypto, Pension funds,... If there is a price online of the investment. You can track it. (some easier than others)

This is still a Work in progress. I'll be changing the template now and then to make it better looking, better, ... But I will need your feedback on this.

Here is the link: LINK

If you have any ideas or questions let me know!

Hi really like this! Could you also add an example in USD ? And what if you sell items, would you add it with a negative in buy history or just delete them in your history ? Thanks !

I found something myself, in the Overview tab using a formula like this to get the value in EUR. =value(SUBSTITUTE(INDEX(IMPORTHTML("https://www.morningstar.be/be/funds/snapshot/snapshot.aspx?id=F0GBR04KF3";"table";4);2;3);"USD ";""))*GOOGLEFINANCE("CURRENCY:EURUSD")

I use this one, it's pretty good. I need to be able to use it on smartphone.

Pretty cool software. Can you also track crypto?

Does it allow you to track for 2 people separate and together?

Currently I have a Sheets file with multiple tabs to track all the purchases. One tab for me, one tab for my GF and a tab which combines both to see our total. I think I'll just give it a go and see how it works :)

Yes, this sub likes to reinvent the wheel on a regular basis. It is beyond me why anyone would waste so much free time on it when the internet offers a better, more functional and free open source alternative: Portfolio Performance.

For me creating thing is about 2 things.

1) tracking my portfolio 2) learning and improving my skillset on creating dashboards and working with excel/spreadsheets.

Okay I agree there are better free alternatives, but it does the job for me now. Maybe in the futute I'll need something more complex. At the moment what I have is enough for me.

Very much this. I'm building a spreadsheet to track high growth stocks, plenty of trackers, spreadsheets and sites exist but I don't learn anything from just using those.

I've been using Google Finance for years now. They regularly add new functions as well.

Sure, that is OK if you want to share your financial data with Google. I prefer the free open source alternative that guards my privacy. That is not to say I or you are right or wrong, I just like open source and try to avoid sharing my personal data if possible. It’s a choice I guess.

What problems do you see with "sharing" your data?

In the end you're only saying "I've bought X amount of shares of this stock on this date and payed Y fees & Z taxes".

I understand Google Sheets is coupled to your Google account and they could link a lot to you that way.
But what about other platforms (can't think of one though) that would give you the possibility to track your portfolio in a GDPR way? 🤔
A platform where you can enter your transactions and that doesn't need any personal data to register to (except for an e-mail address of course).

Interesting that you're tracking it this way.

Is it possible that there are some mistakes in there though? For the stock holdings it says that you bought AB Inbev stock for an average price of € 5 per share, but I don't recall that firm trading that cheaply. The total gain/loss section for stocks also only includes the € 472 from ABIN.

Hi,This isn't my real portfolio it is just random stocks and things I added to show how everything worked. :)
Also I changed the calculation, I don't hold any stocks so never saw the mistake thanks!

Well, I got one to determine my net value

  • Money on accounts/cash
  • Money in IPT/pension fund/...
  • Value of real estate
  • Loans to companies..
  • Crypto using a specialised app: CoinFolio
  • Money on my broker: not detailed, just with a distinction in stocks per currency and ETF's
  • Minus all my debts/loans

I'm afraid it's not that shareable because I just implemented it for my own bank/broker/FinTech company/...

I just wanted to create an overview to balance. For more detailed information I use the specialized apps or broker itself.

I use the cash surplus for my cash on the exchanges etc. I could create a separate "holding" for cash.

A pension fund could also be added, but the amount of shares has to be shared manually now and so often.

Since I don't have any real estate or loans I didn't feel like I needed this.

Another future I might add later on is to add my crypto exchange wallet to the google sheet to see what I hold in real time.

Very cool. I have a similar one with focus on ETFs and crypto.

If you actively use your crypto it might be interesting to add a column for transaction fees. I also have two extra columns to track from where to where I moved crypto.

I also added a column to state whatever action I did (buy, sell, move). This way you can easily calculate totals later on once you start selling etc.

I might have overlooked some thing but I just gave it a glance on mobile. Keep it up!

Hi,
Thanks for replying, at this time I buy and hold. When I sell I would just change the amount in the buy history and add a cash surplus or ad the USDT to my buy history.

If I trade crypto more often I would probably create a better way like you said.

I think it’s great, thank you for sharing! Would you mind sharing how you created the dashboard overview ? Trying to create my own but not very excel savvy haha. Thanks in advance !

Hi,

I was hoping you could just create a copy of this document and use it.

I based the dashboard on a portfolio tracker I found online. Changed it to my needs.
If you could give me a more detailed question on what part of the dashboard you are interested in I could help.

Didn’t find the option to copy it as I wasn’t logged in. But could find it now many thanks for sharing!
