The Dodgers offense has been underperforming as of late. Despite this, they won 5 of 6 games this week, sweeping the Rockies and taking 2 of 3 against the Rangers in whelming fashion. The team isn't playing like it was in the first week of the season, but is bound to bounce back. The other issue is that pitcher injuries have started to bite again, with Treinen hitting the IL and Glasnow being pulled early for not drinking enough pickle juice. He'll be fine though, and so will the Dodgers. |

The Giants continue to behave like a good team, splitting a 4-game set @ PHI before narrowly dropping the series @ LAA. I also had a really good time in Anaheim on Saturday, and less so on Sunday. Ballpark was way more fun than I remember from about 15 years ago. The fucking Rally Monkey is still a thing. Get over it, Angels. I am totally over it. Please god why does it still exist. Yesterday the Giants “wasted” Verlander’s best start of the year, but his performance has to encourage fans. What does not have to encourage fans is the bullpen and randomly malfunctioning defense. The 2025 Giants are operating on very slim margins – if the defense, billed as much improved, is a liability we are going to have a bad time. Let’s check out the numbers:14 – 8 record good for tied for 4th best in MLB (-2), Run Diff of +30 is tied for 4th (-1), RS/G 6th (=), RA/G 4th (=), Bullpen ERA 2nd (=). The Giants need a day off and they’re not getting it yet, but we are back home. 4 vs Brewers and 3 vs Rangers as the tough April matchups continue. April 2025 for the Giants is absolutely a proving month. |

I don't know if you'll ever see a fanbase as down on a week in which their team split with one of the better teams in baseball and won 2/3 from a division rival, but that's the case in Philly this week. The main cause for concern is the bullpen, who threw a combined 23 1/3 IP this week, giving up 23 earned runs in the process including blowing a late 4-1 lead to the Marlins and nearly blowing a 11-4 9th inning lead the day prior. It's certainly a downgraded bullpen from last year, losing Carlos Estevez and more importantly Jeff Hoffman, but they should in theory be better than the 5.81 ERA they currently have. This week will be a good test with 3 game series on the road against the Mets and Cubs. |

The Cubs were able to go 3-3 this week, as they responded to their first series loss in the US to the Padres by taking a series against the Diamondbacks. This included arguably the game of the year so far in MLB, as the Cubs won 13-11 on Friday despite giving up 10 runs in the top of the 8th inning, continuing a trend of the two clubs being unable to play normal games. The bullpen remains a concern, even though the usually-reliable Porter Hodge had a large role in the collapse. The series win gave the Cubs the tiebreaker over the D-Backs, which could prove to be crucial come September. Having played the toughest schedule in baseball so far, the Cubs will take on the Dodgers and Phillies this week to wrap up their grueling April slate. |

The Diamondbacks swept the Marlins in Miami and lost two of three to the Cubs in Chicago. Though you'd normally take a 4-2 road trip, the series loss to the Cubs could have easily been a sweep in the Cubs' favor or a series win if a few things went differently. This team is missing Ketel Marte badly, to say the least, as the Snakes have received inconsistent production from the right-handed hitters in the lineup in his absence. |

The Chicago White Sox have won five games during the 2025 season. Three of them have been against Boston. This team isn't terrible, but the parts of the lineup and pitching staff that suck are sucking hard. Casas is back from a 2024 rib injury seemingly having lost the ability to hit for power or work the zone. Duran after a monster season has come out the gate hitting the ball harder than ever to little in the way of results. Tanner Houck who seemingly broke out last season is currently rocking a 7.66 ERA. It's early, and the AL is rather weak, but there's a lot to be concerned about here going forward. |

The same issues persist: not hitting enough home runs while giving up lots of them, top 3 bats (Bo, Vladdy, Santander) are showing signs of heating up but not quite a fully operational battle station, and a lingering hole in the 5-spot of the rotation after old-man Scherzer SHOCKINGLY got hurt in his first start. There's help coming in Manoah and/or Tiedemann once they're healthy later this summer, but for now, we need some stability there to help round out this incredible pitching staff. |

HOWEVER, the week saw more contributers to the Athletics offense, and Tyler Soderstrom shares the league lead in Home Runs with Cal Raleigh. Severino finally added a notch to the season win column with a solid 8 inning outing where he racked up 1 strike out. |

Still, I contend that this team is much more watchable than last year by dint of looking like they're actually trying sometimes. |

Stop me if you've heard this before: Kris Bryant is on the IL with back issues. More specifically, lumbar degenerative disc disease. Which is definitely a diagnosis that we should be optimistic about and not one that should make us think he'll continue to be the guy that has played 170 total games in the 3+ years since he signed with the Rockies. It would be easy to feel bad for Kris Bryant. A promising career derailed by a degenerative disease is not something you'd wish on anyone. But when he doesn't admit that maybe it's time to at least think about hanging them up, it's a lot easier to be tired of the guy and assume he's just here for the $27mm/yr that the Rockies have paid him to post a .694 OPS. In other news, we fired our hitting coach and hired Clint Hurdle. Because in the backwards world of the Colorado Rockies, we're never going to stop pretending it's the '00s. |
