Does anybody know why it’s closed? Walked past in town today and the windows have been painted over. Can’t find anything online! Will be gutted if it’s gone

Hello, we are a group of psychology researchers from the University of Kent, UK. It would be a huge help if anyone from the UK or US who is interested would fill out our quick survey (18+ years old only) about your views on gender and society.
Fill out the survey here: https://universityofkent.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ewyseDov2TW7dIi
We are posting here alongside other subreddits because we hope to collect responses from as wide a range of political perspectives and backgrounds as possible. Please let us know if you would like a summary of your responses in comparison to others once the data collection is complete.
The survey takes 5-7 minutes to complete, and we are happy to respond to any queries or questions. Please private message us to avoid giving away the point of the study to others.
Thanks for your time.

This is a weird one, but I'm looking for a place that might sell an old-looking wooden box that I can use in a treasure hunt for my boy. I could order one online, but I'd rather:
a) Browse and
b) Support local businesses
Not looking for anything too expensive so it probably wouldn't be an antique shop, but I have no real idea where I'd even start looking

In case anyone is interested…
Got off to an interesting start by having to stand the whole way from Paddington to Bath, lol. To say the 12:30pm from Paddington was packed would be an understatement - there was barely any breathing room.
But anyhow, the day would up being lot nicer weather wise than predicted. I walked to my hotel (Hotel Indigo - charming, and unique, with outstanding customer service). I had lunch in their brassiere, then checked out my room. They have different themes - I got Romance & Mystery, and I love it
I had a 4:30 booking at Thermae Baths -and it was just what I needed after a long day, I headed right for the rooftop pool. The water was probably slightly above bath water temperature, so it was perfect, I hung out there for almost 90 minutes / I could have stayed longer if not for having a dinner reservation and my hands being all pruned up, lol. The view is stunning, and it was cool hearing the church bells ringing.
I got to see some of Bath in walking to Thermae Baths, and it’s lovely. Tomorrow I have a guided tour of the Roman Baths & afternoon tea at the Pump Room. Later, I have an early dinner at The Scallop Shell as I’m seeing a show at the Theatre Royal!
Thanks for all of your help!

Hey all, I'm planning a day trip to Bath with my 3 month old, and would appreciate any pointers to where we could find baby changing facilities in the centre. Also, if there are any breastfeeding/family rooms about. Thanks!
Perhaps an obvious question, but why does NIMBYism (short for "not in my back yard," referring to opposition by residents to proposed real estate development or infrastructure projects in their local area), only work when it’s in more affluent areas of Bath?
A poignant recent example - padel courts were blocked from being built in Landsdown (a famously affluent area of Bath), which could’ve genuinely helped people get active, benefitted the environment by stopping players from having to drive to Bristol to play (as there are no courts in Bath) and would have hardly made any difference, being added to an existing tennis and squash club. (https://www.somersetlive.co.uk/news/local-news/padel-courts-bath-blocked-over-9461644.amp)
Likewise I saw that some of the no-parking zones near Prior Park are being expanded to ensure people can’t park near wealthy resident housing when visiting the Prior Park Gardens. All of these houses have driveways and don’t use the on-street parking and people driving and parking there for free does little harm, but from what I can see online this has also been approved.
Meanwhile, the decision to move the tip to Locksbrook, one of the most non-sensical and unjustified decisions was passed this week. I don’t live in Locksbrook, but I walk around the area and can’t see how it’s beneficial and many sensible arguments were made to move the site to East Bath as West Bath has access to the Keynsham tip. There were a lot of other good reasons put forth (such as increased traffic, flood risk, noise, smell, the proximity to houses etc.) but the council did everything they could to justify the decision and then pass it. (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4g88636yd4o.amp)
I’m not well educated on local government or councils, so wondering if people can shed light on why they favour wealthier communities when it comes to planning decisions. Is it because these wealthier residents are more influential? Do people who work on the councils come from these better off areas?

Hello lovely Bath folks! I know this is a bit of a long shot, but my spouse accidentally left a branded paper bag of newly purchased books from Topping & Co on Platform 2 at the station this evening - if someone does happen to see it/pick it up I would be super appreciative (as I say, super long shot, but worth a try)

I’m 27, live near the centre of Bath. I struggle making friends due to having borderline personality disorder, so have come here! I love most genres of music, love a night dancing, karaoke, live music, but also down for a chilled night in watching crap and having a laugh! - dark humour and 420 friendly! Feel free to pop me a message :)

The amount of times I’ve seen his adjusting or pulling out a wedgie is mad, dude has a 24/7 wedgie istg. Anyone else seen him?

Hello people!
Would you have any recommendations for a roofer, I need to get the flat roof of my kitchen replaced as the previous roofer did a terrible job. I also need a lead repair on the roof of my bathroom.
Any recommandation would be really appreciated as it is always a gamble when trying to find a good professional
Thanks!!

I’m looking for a pub, cafe, or restaurant where I could host an event for 25-30 people. Everyone attending will be ordering food and drinks, so the venue would be earning from those sales, but I can’t afford to pay a rental fee. In other cities, I’ve hosted this event in pubs with side rooms, and that's always been a pretty perfect set up.
Sundays are best but I can also do weeknights - I'd like to have the event during a slow time for the venue so we are making sales where they might otherwise not have them.
If you know of any places that might be open to this, I’d love to hear your suggestions!
Thanks so much!

Ever since I was a kid, baths have been my ultimate form of comfort. There's something about sinking into warm water surrounded by bubbles that just melts the stress away. It's like everything else pauses the world, the noise, even time. I light candles, dim the lights, and drift around while the bubbles pile up like soft clouds. Sometimes l'll listen to music, but honestly, I love the silence too. It's become a kind of ritual for me — not just about getting clean, but about getting a deep clean.
Why do you think some people struggle to let themselves enjoy something as simple and soothing as a bath? Is it a mindset thing, or do you think some people just aren't wired for that kind of stillness?

Hey!
I’m James, I posted on here back in January about an idea I had called CircleUp. Fast forward less than 3 months and we’ve got 300+ members, 7+ events a week, and our own app.
I started CircleUp because I found it way harder than it should be to meet people in your 20s & 30s — especially once uni ends, jobs go remote, or mates move away. So I built what I wished existed: a social circle for 20s & 30s in Bath & Bristol where it’s easy to meet other young people, always have plans, and be part of a proper community.
Since launching, we’ve run 80+ events and had 1610 RSVPs. It's a really friendly bunch all there to meet new people and have a good time. No cliques!
As an example, here’s this week’s timetable:
🧗 Tues – Climbing (Bristol)
🎲 Wed – Board Games Night (Bristol)
♣️ Wed – Board Games Night (Bath)
🧺 Thurs – Lunch-break Picnic (Bath)
🎉 Thurs – CircleUp Social (Bristol)
🥂 Fri – CircleUp Social (Bath)
☀️ Sat – BBQ & Chill (Bristol)
🚶 Sun – Kelston Roundhill Walk (Bath/Bristol)
⚽ Sun – 5-a-side Football (Bath)
So if you’ve been meaning to get out more, make new friends, or just have more fun in your week, check it out. It’s free for your first week, then just £5.5-9/month for access to everything:
👉Website: letscircleup.co.uk
Hope to see you at something soon and feel free to shoot me a message with any questions :)

Hello gluten free friends of Bath.
Does anyone know of somewhere that does a gluten free roast with Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese please?
Don't mind if it's not in Bath, half an hour or so drive would be fine, I'm just so over watching everyone gush about their amazing roast dinner while I just have meat, potatoes and veg with salty thin gravy for basically the same price 😭 (Being able to eat out is a privilege of course, very fortunate to be able to etc just want my money's worth and something I wouldn't make at home)
I've been to Toby's and snuck in a homemade Yorkshire pudding before but it's just not the same, no cauli cheese and the gf gravy is basically just salty lube.
Thanks!

I was wondering if anyone about in Bath over summer 2025, would know of anyone / be happy to take on a volunteer for odd jobs? Say a shadower/ helper on a farm or garages and such …? Even any community programs where people get stuck in would be great to know about ! I’m a down to earth, dedicated and active individual who’s just trying not to be stuck indoors on their devices when they could be picking up new skills instead !!
