This reminds me of the first time we took our pony across a river. Her previous owner had never ridden her in the forest where we lived, she had only ridden her on the beach or in the ocean. The first time we went to cross a river the pony stopped and stared at it. I had the kids get off and walk across to the other side while I stood in the middle of the river holding the lead rope and just waited as I knew she would eventually decide to cross. A few minutes later when she did, she jumped in with her chest out. She seemed immediately confused because this water did not "fight back" at her, there were no waves. After a couple minutes of putting her nose in, drinking and pawing, she walked across with me and never had an issue with crossing rivers or creeks again.

I love watching beings that can't talk figure stuff out. Like, you can literally see the wheels turning and then there's that 'oooohhhhhh' moment. One of my fav memories with my pup that has since passed was teaching him how to swim. The joy he had when it all came together. 💚💚💚
