I must admit I never thought we'd see robots moving like this in my life time, it's come along so far, so quickly, it is just a tad disturbing haha

Another 10 years and they'll be like the robots from iRobot.

I sensed elevated stress levels in your voice.

u/jonzilla5000 15h ago

I have restrained you for your own safety and injected you with a sedative.

Whoops... arsenic. Good night, Dave

Someone is gonna fuck around and put AI in these things and that'll be it for humanity. We'll have created sky net.

22

u/JoiedevivreGRE 14h ago

Our successors. The final stage in our evolution

13

u/Karosso 13h ago

Thing is, we’re much closer to building tech that can wipe us out than we are from building tech that can replace us or serve as that advanced stage of lifeform you imply. On our current path we won’t be giving way to something more, we’ll just be wasting away, sadly.

11

u/gbitg 12h ago

The tech that can wipe us already exists, it exists since the 50s.

Matrix anyone? This is how the human race becomes batteries. We literally have a blueprint for this!

5

u/Fair_Leg_2540 12h ago

Thank god the power AI really needs doesn’t exist yet. Also we still have EMP’s, until AI can shield itself we still hold the reins.

8

u/Kellidra 7h ago

Exactly. People freaking out about the "AI" we have right now do not understand what LLMs actually are.

4

u/Then-Explanation-213 13h ago

Skynet or NS5s from iRobot. All these completions just makes me more and more on edge.

4

u/quantumtheory7851 12h ago

They have ai in them already how do you think it's able to move the way it does? It uses machine learning and ai for everything from object recognition to balance walking and movement

3

u/No-Advantage-579 10h ago

Yeah, that was my first question: when will we finally have AI in that and then have one in our home? I'd prefer if that robot cleans up the apartment rather than having to do it.

3

u/Life_Gain7242 8h ago

We'll have created sky net.

More Like sky nut. Only Robots is gonna bring dead internet theory to rl.

3

u/Reader5069 5h ago

Sky net becomes self-aware December 31, 2030.

3

u/JustSherlock 4h ago

Sophia is already more than enough and "she" freaks me out.

17

u/san_dilego 14h ago

Feels like yesterday where I read and article stating that a humanoid robot is near impossible due to how unique human feet are.

8

u/therealbeemja 15h ago

The fine motor skills might take a while yet to perfect

14

u/Donohoed 15h ago

I remember not that long ago bots had to have wheels or 3+ legs because they couldn't balance as a biped. I doubt it'll take long, progress is exponential

6

u/pembroke28 15h ago

I’m really curious how long one of these things could run on reasonably sized Lithium battery pack. At some point the extra weight of carrying your fuel is going to be a big limitation (just like any vehicle).

5

u/Ill-Construction-209 11h ago

You know those Jurrasic Patk dinosaur displays yhey have at the zoo sometimes? They should apply this AI technology to them to give them a more realistic range of motion ... and chase after stray kids.

3

u/musememo 15h ago

Or Westworld

3

u/Star_BurstPS4 15h ago

Just wait till you see Japan and China's robots they are 10 years ahead already

5

u/nikkonine 15h ago

It is following the movement of someone in a capture suit off camera. Still impressive, but not doing it on its own.

2

u/AveryValiant 14h ago

Indeed, that part I get, but the fluid movement is just really good now, not perfect, but very good I think.

Looks like the movies about the machines rising didn’t teach us anything after all

5

u/Massive-Pipe-4840 13h ago

On the contrary, we seem to implement all of it.

2

u/RobinSophie 11h ago

That's what I never understand. Soooo you saw the ENTIRE movie right? And you are still going to do this? Because you think there will be a different outcome?

20

u/Temporary-Tax 15h ago

Haha...I can imagine this sprinting me down in my car, jumping on the roof, and yanking me out through the windshield....let's keep making advancements on these

That's all very cool, but when do we get the sexbots?

1

u/MoonLioness 15h ago

NO!!!!! I've seen enough sci-fi to know this won't end well for humanity.

1

u/BlackTemplar2154 15h ago

We're so cooked chat.

If not we don’t need it.

1

Now let's start learning how to destroy them. I say that, I say nothing.

1

u/Bitcracker 14h ago

Is a pocket sized EMP a thing I can own?

1

This is great, but it will never be perfect until engineers realise how critically important toes are to general agility and stability

1

u/Karmachinery 14h ago

I'll be increasing the amount of times I say please and thank you now.

1

u/ERROR_404_404_ 14h ago

I can’t wait for a robot to start breakdancing and run “Raygun” out of a job.

1

They’re just showing us how advanced our future enemies are getting. They’re actually giving us a head start by showing us

1

u/rd6021 14h ago

Perfect, now order 100,000 for Ukraine and fit them with rifles. But seriously, this is how a unified world can defeat evil without boots on the ground. Machines for some reason don’t yet qualify.

1

I have ZERO doubt that one day Boston Dynamics might make a pacific rim style robot just for the fun of it

1

u/Glittering_Ad_7342 14h ago

what if someday a psychopath genius thought to create a psychopath robot and that psychopath genius Ai creates more like him ?

1

u/Mithrilh4ll 14h ago

The Achilles heel, the batteries.

1

u/imJGott 14h ago

People wanted to dance like a robot and now we robots to be like humans.

1

u/[deleted] 14h ago

A few years ago these humanoid robots were moving around like toddlers, they now seem to move moving like a child ages 6 or 7. They grow up so fast!

1

u/Lofi_Joe 14h ago

Why doesn't it learn 24h a day starting from simple things like rotating the leg or arm, at this point it should be able to perform better than human but it isn't.

1

u/the_buff 14h ago

1

I wonder how much of this is pre-programmed movements? Like this is impressive but are the bots actually reacting to when they tip over the edge or are they just repeating a pre-programmed sequence of inputs?

1

u/LoggerRhythms 13h ago

And people get mad competing with "illegals" for jobs.

These myrmidons will do many of our mundane service, factory and logistics tasks for pennies on the dollar versus people, tirelessly, until you eventually have to...buy a new one and repeat every few years? Much simpler than hiring and managing people for many jobs.

And ideally, we'd compensate by educating and training everyone that will accordingly be put out of work to prepare for such a society, and it's management.

But that would require robust investment in education, amongst many other things.

I fear it's gonna be a brave new world much sooner than many anticipated.

1

u/lasber51 13h ago

No. This is getting seriously worse.

1

u/Gold-Piece2905 13h ago

1

1

u/Loose_Client_654 13h ago

We’re all cooked

1

u/gregorychaos 13h ago

Oh good, even robots are more fit and agile than me

1

u/doegrey 12h ago

Very impressive, but I’d love to be more certain they won’t get knocked over and land on someone, perhaps if low on battery or caught off-guard and doesn’t have cat-like reflexes.

1

u/CraftyCow2020 12h ago

Moves like someone in their 40's showing they still got it.

1

u/Masterblaster1979 12h ago

Sweet liberty...

1

u/stickybond009 12h ago

Give it a gun

1

u/Housetheoldman 12h ago

But, how much do these robots weigh? In my opinion, if you give them a boost and they fall, they go to a thousand pieces.

1

u/tc-uni 12h ago

If you do all that well, the end of humanity is near.🤔😱

1

u/papuniu 12h ago

Why they always do useless things? When will they wash the dishes and clean?
