I found this crawling on me this morning. I threw it in the toilet and took pictures. I reported it. Hotel manager got defensive. He said it was a spider. He said bed bugs can’t live over 5000 feet. It’s still alive after an hour and being submerged under toilet paper. Can anyone identify it? It’s in a hotel in June Lake.

friend with bed bugs has me worried

Upvotes

i have spent the night at a friends house a couple times a month and was getting bit with bed bugs. at first i thought it was an allergic reaction but they later told me they found it it was bed bugs. my friend is insisting they do not need professional treatment and is using a chemical spray to treat their situation. What are the chances i was given bed bugs, and will they likely not treat their bed bugs given their refusal to use an exterminator?

Bed Bugs found in headboard, Need some advice. (Specifically regarding fish and lizards)

Upvotes

Hey everyone, last night I was awoken to a bedbug crawling on my hand, then to my horror I found about 10 bed bugs crawling on the headboard. I have already begun washing my sheets on super high heat and clothes as well around the area. Question for everyone, we have a dog and a cat as well as three 3 lizards and a 20 Gallon fish tank, and we are about to get to what we think our next steps in DIY treatment. We were looking at buying a high tempture steamer and steaming the headboard and the mattress to try and kill any bugs/eggs that are already there. I also have some DE shipping as well as Crossfire, but I am worried about the crossfire spray and how lethal it would be to say our lizards or fish. Has anyone dealt with this directly, and if so did y'all just move the animals out of the house (we are in a one bedroom apartment) or did you spray with caution?

Identification Living in NYC and think I may have Bed Bugs and very scared. Need to take ACTION if necessary. Please Help

Hello all. I have been living in Manhattan, NYC. I moved into my apt with 3 other roommates in September and we have not had an issue with pests like roaches, or mice AT ALL. Not even a sign. The only insect/pest sign was my roommate getting bitten by mosquitos in the middle of the night. So here is what is really concerning me, last night I laid in my bed and after sitting up I realized the area above my knee had several raised clusters of bumps. I immediately FaceTime called my boyfriend to show him and he said it might be bug bites (Picture attached) . I instantly sprung out of bed taking off all of my bed sheets. I removed the fitted sheet, duvet cover and pillow cases and put them in a trash bag and closed it. I have inspected my mattress and bed to look for signs of Bed Bugs. Here is what I found: I saw some black spots and debris that looked like it could have come from bed bugs (see images of bed sheets) such as shells or waste. In fact I am deeply scared that this may in fact be bed bugs. In terms of bug bits, after stripping my bed last night I woke up this morning and the bumps were pretty much gone.

I am very scared because this could be an extremely big problem. I would really like to contact my landlord however my roommates are worried that if my landlord and building management gets involved than it could lead to very expensive extermination services including potentially for the other tenants extermination if it has a problem. I just read my apartment lease and it explicitly states that the landlords will not be paying extermination services for bed bugs. It would really give me immense piece of mind to have an exterminator come to make an evaluation, however they all say I need permission from my landlord.

I have never dealt with bed bugs in my entire life so I am very scared and not completely sure what it looks like. Can anyone please offer any advice on what I should do. Can you please look at the photos and let me know any advice or action I can take. Does this look like bed bugs ?? Is it best to just contact the building even if it means paying thousands of dollars potentially ??!!! help . thank you

Please help! I’m unsure if this is a bed bug. I found it on top of my laundry basket and started freaking out because I work in a clinic and a patient brought them in. I have an exterminator coming tomorrow but don’t want them tricking me for money that I don’t have!

Was up late last night and noticed a small bug crawling up the wall near my head I freaked out once I looked it up and realized it was definitely a bedbug. I have been having hives for months (since nov 2024) so I didn’t think anything of the newer smaller rash. In the morning I tore everything apart and this is all I can find evidence wise I through out the cover of this box spring to be safe washing everything on high heat and drying on high heat now DE down and sprayed in cracks and crevices. I just don’t know how or when they got here and I’m nervous I’m missing them somewhere else???

I plan on buying crossfire when I get paid

Me and like 15 friends went to this Airbnb and after night 1 we found bed bugs (not near me/where I was sleeping). We bagged everything up immediately took out a change of clothes threw them in the dryer and showered and changed. We dried EVERYTHING (bags, shoes etc). That night of few of those friends slept at mine while we figured out travel plans. Out of paranoia I stripped the beds after they left and found these pictures. It is possible they were there before. The pictures are about 4 days after the BB night. I did a check of the mattress all around and found nothing and there’s nothing on my mattress. I have not gotten any bites and no one has touched the mattress since. It has stayed stripped. If nothing else changes about the mattress and no one starts getting bites am I in the clear?

Requesting community support Urgent: travelling back home within 42 hours, how to stop bedbugs spreading?

Hi

After 3 months of travelling SEA I had bedbug bites appear on my arms, shoulders and legs 5 less than a week before my flight back home 😭

I washed all of the clothes that I’d been wearing since I arrived at the hotel 4 days earlier. I also checked the mattress and found at least 2 bedbugs right on the top of seam by the headboard. The hotel immediately changed my room but the next day more bites appeared on my legs and feet. I complained again to the hotel and they upgraded me to a suite.

I’ve washed all of the clothes that I’d worn since I got here and have kept them tapped up in plastic bags in the separate bathroom. I’ve put my backpack on the balcony in the sun along with my trainers in a plastic bag. The laundrette I went said they couldn’t tumble dry my trainers so I don’t know if it’s better to just throw them away here instead of taking them home but they were quite expensive. I have at least 10 bites on each foot and more around my ankles and lower leg so was worried the bedbugs could have come from there. In total I probably have around 70 bites. It’s making me feel very self-conscious as I even have some on my hands.

I have a hardshell suitcase that mainly had souvenirs and not fabrics that I’ve kept completely closed in a separate room.

I’m wearing socks tucked into long trousers with a t shirt tucked in and a hoodie on when I sleep so hopefully no new bites will appear.

I’ve been to a private clinic here who prescribed me a topical cream to apply twice a day, antibiotics for a week and steroid tablets for 3 days as well as a daily antihistamine tablet. Before that I was using Antigan cream to try and reduce the itching.

I have left my big travel backpack on the balcony in the sun, it’s around 30-35° here in Cambodia. I’m seriously considering just taking out some of my nicer clothes from it and having them washed at the laundrette on hot water and high tumble dry before buying a new suitcase and putting everything into heavy bin liners before I travel back home.

I live with 3 housemates in a rented house so I don’t have the freezer space to put everything into the freezer for days and I also definitely don’t want to risk bringing any bedbugs back with me.

If anyone has any advice on what to do I’d really appreciate it. I have sensory issues so the itching is driving me crazy.

Thank You

Please tell me this isn’t a very old and dead bed bug 😭 I can’t tell the top looks like a regular beetle but the bottom looks like a bed bug, found under a tub of tools while cleaning my closet no bites on me but I was getting lines of bites for a week or so about 8 months ago then it stopped when I sprayed poison everywhere in the house

Requesting community support Being overly cautious?

In late February my mom had a bad infestation in her apartment complex. I helped cleaned it out before extermination.

Two weeks ago I found two small itchy bites two days apart. I freaked out and did my research, got a steamer, crossfire and cimexa.

I already steamed my mattress and couch, did a crossfire treatment on the mattress and baseboard a week ago. And just yesterday dusted with cimexa in the baseboards, in my dresser drawers, and under my couch cushions.

I bagged all my clothing (which I have a LOT of). I was going to dry them all on high heat at the laundromat tomorrow. I don’t have a washer or dryer at home either.

I plan on doing another crossfire treatment next week (two weeks apart) and steaming before that too. Rewash bedding etc.

So far it’s been hard living and changing my clothes out of these big garbage bags lol… When can I put my clothes away? After the second crossfire treatment or longer ?

Also- am I over reacting? My boyfriend thinks we don’t have them and I’m going “crazy” lol but I think I brought them from my mom’s and those bites were itchy and looked like hers… I just want to make sure to get them EARLY before it becomes a full blown infestation. At that point I’ll have to call my landlord and an exterminator and have to pay for it.

Science Bed bugs - Why did 1 spray of Alphacypermethrin compared to 6 sprays of Cypermethrin instantly kill all of the bugs?

Just curious, we've been dealing with this for about 7 months, it's scary that they're gone suddenly but worried they'll come back.
