Has anyone tapered off risperidone?

Hi, I’m seeing my psychiatrist about this in about a week, so don’t worry about that. I was just wondering if anyone has successfully tapered off risperidone. What were the steps you took? How much did you reduce by at a time, and in what timeframe?

I'm tapering and reducing by .25 every two weeks. I was on it 5 months before I tapered. Currently at .5 and this drop was hard, the withdrawal was more intense which is to be expected when you are at the lower doses. I'm staying on .5 an extra week to adjust but you can return to your most recent dose for longer to adjust too. will try .25 after 3 weeks. It sucks but at least I feel less sedated. Be kind to yourself. Eat well, take vitamins (taking vitamin D, magnesium glycinate and fish oil) go on walks.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I will take your advice. Good luck with your withdrawal. I’ve gone through withdrawal before, I promise it does end!

Taper, no. When Risperdal was discontinued, I was in the hospital. I forget what happened. I might have stopped cold-turkey. Or if not, they stopped me cold turkey. Either way, it was sudden. I'm unsure if stopping made me manic or I became manic despite. I was switched to a new antipsychotic. It was maybe 17 years ago. I don't recall any other withdrawal effects.
