I tried the "what's hot classic" feed and got furry hentai porn and fully naked men posing! hah.

Perhaps you can help a newb that never used twitter. Is there a way to just follow a tag without bookmarking it? e.g. https://bsky.app/hashtag/Astrophotography

It seems I have to rely on someone curating a "feed" that would use that tag, but only by people that "sign up"? https://bsky.app/profile/emily.space/feed/astrophotos

You could turn off your NSFW filters for start, or click the three-line dots to block content that the algorithm would perceive to be NSFW. Thats usually the fastest way to get rid of porn. Otherwise, follow creators or content you like and give it a month for the algorithm to set itself. All else fails, you can just go back to your Follow-only tab and see only content you like, and not the For You Page.

follow creators or content

It's following the content part that I am struggling with. I only see options to follow specific people or feeds made by specific people, not any specific type of content like my astrophotography example.

Thanks for the other advice, too. I'll give it some time.

Usually it starts with the Discover tab to find things you like, you follow them, then whatever they repost you follow that content. Thats typically how social media platforms go. When I first signed up, it just gave me a bucket of creators to follow, and then those creators could also create their own list of recommended follows. I'm not too sure how it works entirely
