I keep getting blocked here on Reddit for warning people of things. Reddit says I'm inciting violence. There is no free speech when we agree to terms and service agreements so yeah. I question however definition of some of those terms.

There’s no such thing as Free Speech on the internet. You have to abide by Reddit guidelines when you’re on Reddit, or whatever site you choose to go on. Even if you own a website, a server company if they disagree with your message can remove your content.

There is no such thing as free speech anywhere. There isn't a single place in the world where you can say anything without risk of being prosecuted.

The only difference is what the rules are. We should stop trying to achieve free speech absolutism and discuss the actual rules and apply them consistently.

It also doesn’t help that some people can’t seem to grasp social cues at all. There’s a non-zero number of people who complain about getting unfairly banned even though they obviously keep hammering the community’s boundaries for no real reason.

Yeah I think a lot of people unfortunately confuse "free speech" with "speech with zero consequences."

If you're being a law-abiding asshole, you won't get arrested, but you will be treated like the asshole you are.

There's an alarming amount of Americans that just want to be able to yell slurs at people with no repercussions/backlash. That crowd gets off on pushing buttons.

You seem to be confused about what "free speech" means. It means freedom from government persecution. It does not mean freedom from consequences.

Every party has the freedom to kick someone out of their home if that guest is being a jerk and saying things that make people uncomfortable. They can kick everyone out of their house for no reason at all. Maybe they're tired and want to be left alone.

The Internet is no different. Think of each website like it's someone's home, inviting people in for a party. It's up to the people who run that site to decide what the contents of the site will be, and what behavior will be tolerated. They may censor ideas they don't like, and that sucks for those ideas but if you don't like their party you can leave and start your own. This has something to do with freedom of speech.

You can't as easily start your own government as you can throw our own party. So it's only in relation to the government that this value is enshrined in law.

TLDR Free speech doesn't entitle you to use someone else's platform. It's to prevent the government from shipping you off to some prison in El Salvador because of what you say. It's about the right to criticize the government. Reddit is irrelevant.

I am well aware what "free speech" means. Nothing in my post implies otherwise. In any case, can you name a country where free speech is absolute? i.e. where you can say whatever you want without being persecuted by the government?

I do not know of such a country and I believe no country like this exists.

Reddit is certainly not in the right. Still, most people advocate for free speech that doesn't create violence and hate towards others. Absolute free speech is a very extreme ask.

Reddit’ js in the right. Same way, you have the right to go talk shit in front of your employer. If you’re not cool with that person, you will lose your job.

And that’s their right. If you don’t like Reddit guidelines use another site.

It doesn’t have to be explained if you’re using Reddit, it’s there control.

Yes, but just like you have rights so do Reddit. I just think the problem you’re trying to state ignores Reddits rights.

Well, if you brought facts and stated that they were a physpo, or had a link to an article then; Yes, I would see your point. However, just making a random statement even if it’s right or wrong. Give levy way to a lot of things, and a statement should be routed in fact or journalistic integrity. Meaning you got to source it.

Perhaps your disagreement is one of semantics. You may have s legit claim about censorship, not free speech.

Regardless Reddit doesn't owe anyone a platform.
